Hi Annette,
My name is Nancy and I just rejoined today. I used this app back in 2018 to 2020 and I find that regular logging gets easier after the first week. I'm not sure how to add friends but I'd like to friend you! I wish you much success with your weight loss. I have more than 50 lb to lose but for now my goal is 22 lbs. That'll get me down 10% from my starting weight.

Hi! I’ve been on MFP for a few years now (75 lbs lost), and found the biggest helper is to log everything right away, don’t wait and try to remember what you had.
Also, the more homemade you eat, the easier it is to log - nothing you eat at a restaurant will come out accurately, as there’s always more calories eating out than we assume. If you have a great recipe, type it out and save it so you don’t have to think next time you have it :)
I also usually input 5-10 minutes less on the exercise calories, or don’t post them at all, because a) those are just estimates they provide (since we are all unique in our metabolism/size/etc, and b) so I’m not using exercise to let myself eat more than my daily goal.
I started out with a fairly moderate calorie goal then when I saw what I was taking in and started losing, I reduced it to keep the momentum.
I found for me personally, the minute I stopped logging my food, I plateaued on my weight loss, as this has become a great accountability app for me, more than anything else.
But the #1 thing that helped me? Less meat. I am now about 80-90% vegetarian and have become a helluva better cook now that I focus on the multitude of foods I can make/eat veg and keeping calorie-dense foods like bread, dairy and meat to ‘treats’ instead of staples.
