Looking for Advice – Easier Way to Save Specific Foods to “My Foods” Folder?

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out to see if anyone else has encountered the same issue I have, and whether there are any tips, tricks, or workarounds that might make the process smoother.

I’m pretty particular about logging accurate food data in MyFitnessPal, especially when it comes to macronutrients. I eat a wide variety of different foods throughout the week, and I like to make sure each item in my diary reflects the correct nutrition details—not just approximate figures.

One recurring issue I’ve come across relates to reusing specific foods I’ve previously logged. Here’s the situation:

Let’s say I enter a food item from the global database (for example, a particular type of yoghurt or a snack), then I slightly tweak the macros or correct the entry before adding it to my diary on Monday. Then I don’t eat that food again until the following Monday. By that time, it’s no longer in my “Recent Foods” list due to how quickly that list rotates based on frequency of use. When I go to log it again, I have to scroll through dozens—sometimes hundreds—of nearly identical entries in the search results, most of which have inconsistencies in calories or macros because they’ve been user-submitted.

That’s when I discovered the “My Foods” tab—such a helpful feature. If I can save the corrected version there, it makes things so much easier the next time around. I know the version I saved is accurate, I can find it quickly, and I don’t have to second-guess the data.

However, here’s where I’m running into friction: the only way I’ve found to get something into the “My Foods” folder is by flagging the original item as inaccurate (selecting “No” when asked if the food is accurate, even though it is), which then allows me to save it into “My Foods.” This works, but it feels like a bit of a workaround rather than a built-in function.

What I’d love is a simple way to save any food I find in the global database directly to my “My Foods” folder, especially if I’ve already verified it’s accurate or made small tweaks. For example, there are literally hundreds of entries for Parmesan cheese—all with different macros—and I only trust one or two of them. I’d like to be able to save that version for future use without jumping through hoops.

Has anyone found a better way to do this?

  • Is there a shortcut or option I’m missing?
  • Are there any other workarounds you use to keep your food list clean & accurate?
  • Do you use “Meals” or “Recipes” instead to get around this?
  • How do others manage the messiness of global food search results?

I’ve already sent feedback to MyFitnessPal directly with all of this, but I thought I’d ask the community too, in case I’m overcomplicating things or missing something obvious.

Really appreciate any suggestions or feedback anyone might have!

Thanks in advance 😊
