Thanks friend! I do feel better, but I have a ways to go still. I have always been a large lady, and I had come to terms with that. Obese, but healthy. Now, I have a glimmer that I can change that. Its mental uncharted territory for me, but kind of exciting. I started at 248.6 on May 15th, and presently 237.0. 11.6 lbs down. My joints are less sore, and I can go up and down the stairs easily. Who knows where this will take me!

Precious photo.💖. Reminded me of my step father as he would walk around our home acreage, surveying the property, appreciating all his and my moms hard work. They had a big garden, even mounding the soil in long rows, with grass in between. It was an Asian thing. Then with his 40+ bonsai trees, the place was magical. He was just the man my mom needed after her and my dad divorced. They married in the Portland Rose gardens, and throughout their marriage he brought her a rose every Saturday at 10 am, (when they married).
Men need their quiet time!
Glad you got your 10 hours! Cheering my mug to you!

You have good people skills friend! Glad you enjoy helping people. Its probably very rewarding to see them happy.😁💖
Funny Bernese story!!😂😂😂
Tucker was intimidating at first for me. I mean I would stumble out of the trailer I would stay at, to see Tucker galloping at me with a stick in his mouth. Well, not a stick but a small tree trunk.😂😂 I would have to stand firm so he could say good morning in his normal rub his body and practically knock you over thing!

So I was silly. Last Wednesday I bought my sister and I pizza at a great place in Anacortes Wa. It was a large and we each ate 2 pieces. Have more than half left over. I have bundles of 2 pieces stacked in the freezer. It will take me eons to finish. I planned a piece today for dinner. Its pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, tomato and black olives and big slices so 300+ for a slice according to this site. I just used Domino's even though its better than Domino's. They're wrapped in foil. They should last a month or 5 right?

YES! Berners are known for the “Berner lean”. They will lean into you so hard that they will knock you over if you don’t have a good stance! I’m constantly protecting my knees from Lulu. While their size can be intimidating for people who haven’t been around them before, there’s no way to see this and be scared:
Best bed head ever! Although now that I see it again, it does make her look a bit deranged like she’s straight out of a Tim Burton movie. 😂
Going to see if the humidity is too much for her today or if we can grab a quick walk. Getting to the time of year where she’ll spend most of her time inside in the air conditioning.

Lanette - I, too, have cut out all sugar and ultra processed foods with the exception of a serving of low calorie Halo Top sea salt caramel ice cream once or twice a week (because I’m not a total psychopath 😊). I’ve found that if I get plenty of lean protein, and season it well with Himalayan pink salt, as well as some healthy fats and high volume low calories veggies, my cravings are practically gone. So while I don’t get cravings for salt or sweets, I still find myself desperately needing something crunchy out of habit. But I’ve dropped 11lbs in the last 5 weeks with this switch, combined with watching my total calorie intake, so I’m trying to find ways through it.
Sometimes I’ll dice up an apple relatively finely and put in in a bowl so I can sit and pop in piece after piece like you would with chips. I’ve made popcorn in a pot on the stove with a little olive oil (since I’m trying to minimize seed oils) or if you have an air popper, that works too. Sometimes (maybe every 2-3 weeks) the compromise is having something processed, like Quest protein chips, because a small serving scratches that itch so I don’t keep going through the pantry eating thing after thing because nothing is satisfying that urge.
Congrats on cutting out the sugar and hope you find a way through it!Lynn in CT

Ezie will be 9 in Sept. The wetlands starts right across the street from her school. They did a walking field trip there a few weeks ago and she came home telling about the salt marsh field mouse and the pickle weed that they eat. I was impressed that she learned and remembered so much about it. She even asked me if I had seen the pickleweed and if it was still green or if it had turned red yet.
Stayed home from church and watching it online today.
DH is at a toy show with his friend(customers, not sellers, though he does have plenty he should start selling so he doesn't take over even more of the house-already took son's room along with his own room). I am taking advantage of the house to myself so getting chores done that I have been putting off.
Taking a quick tea break before starting the next one. Next is clearing off the kitchen table and going through all the snacks that have piled up. If I am not going to eat them, or dh or ds(I can drop some off for him if I find ones he would like) the rest are getting dumped. DH said there is nothing there he will eat. I need to do better at tossing stuffDebbie

😀 I listen to podcasts from Dr. Chatterjee and others and continue to learn more about the bad effects of sugar and processed foods. The more I know, the easier it is for me to stay away from them. The other thing I learned is that cravings don't last as long as you think they do and if you distract yourself, they'll go away. Somehow it's easier to think that food cravings should be indulged but cravings for sex or alcohol or gambling or shopping or stealing or illegal drugs aren't OK and thus can be avoided and not indulged.
😀 Lisa, what a lovely setting for Corey.
😀 Lynn, I love your idea of eating an apple. I like the crunch and sweet juiciness.
😀 Got up early this morning to allow time for all my early morning practices, plus breakfast, a walk with the dogs, playtime for Annie and her dog friend in the fenced yard, grocery pick up, watering the plants that need regular watering, and washing mor fence panel (18 done and 4 still to wash), and got back inside by 10 to find that the air conditioning was already on. My noon walk with my friend got cut in half because it was so warm (I wore short sleeves, and yes, I slathered sun block on face and arms)

Sipping my favorite tea ever! In a large insulated cup put some pure lemon juice in, just to cover the bottom, then sprinkle in some sugar free lemonade mix of your choice. Next add two tsp of honey, and mix with a long spoon. Lastly, add a mint tea bag and a peach tea bag. Fill up with boiling water and seep, stirring well. Its just such an enjoyment!

I love the picture. It reminds me so much of where my dad used to always sit when it was a warm day. He had a bench that looks very similar and it was under a big tree next to their little pond. Now, that is where David, the guy that is living at mom's(was in the room mates trailer until she left with the trailer, leaving the guy homeless)spends many hours, talking on his cell phone to his family back in Mexico.
That is the one spot on the property that I can almost always send a text. Many other areas on the property I cant. I can't send pictures in texts anywhere there(but I can send them on FB)3 -
Debbie I remember those hard plastic rollers, and even worse, the ones that looked like a net covered spring with brushes poking through. Yuck. How much does your mini chainsaw way? What model is it? I’ve been wanting one but fear my wrists are too weak to manage one.
Lisa, so thankful to hear the Skyrizi worry has been lifted for another while, and that you’re holding the cardiologist off til after the GI test results. You model for us how to champion for our own health. Love love love the pic of Corey and Egg in their favorite spot.
Tina good to hear from you! Your DH is able to walk two miles a day with a screw working loose in his ankle? How soon can he get in for the second opinion? 4 months to see a surgeon would be expectable here in the rural wilds, but thought you were in a more urban location. Too much time too close together can really up the annoyance factor. ((hugs)) Con VERY grats on taking off the weight and fitting into former clothes.
Tracey what horrible choices for Lauryn’s friend. Injury so severe the surgeons won’t even try to address. (cry) Is “Maid” the Canadian equivalent of total disability/Medicaid here in the US? Started watching Good Night, Good Luck. It looks to be very absorbing. I remember watching Edward R Murrow on TV in the 50s.. We need him and Walter Cronkite too.
Heather writing about the box of books you can’t let go, sounds like inspiration to me ;)
Allie you’re right. Wacky sleep will drive you nuts. ((hugs))
Carol hope you can get in to see Dr. soon. What Beth said about a new Dr. to manage your depression better, ((hugs))
Lanette, yes I told the GP. about the COMB study and supplements when the oral surgeon took me off the alendronate. GP wanted to put me on HRT, but I said NO! due my family history of breast cancer (bio mom twice twenty years apart, half sister 3 different kinds at once.) COMB was my best counter offer. We’ll see. Winco’s bulk (deluxe mixed) nuts are the best, and the worst ;} I have to limit macadamia nut consumption to the 8-10 g range when I have pineapple and yoghurt for breakfast.
Rita love Lucy’s radar ears and Wicket’s picture of tolerance ;)
Rebecca thanks! Does it smell good in the field?
Lynn smooooch that pooch! Con VERY grats for that healthy switch, the 11 lbs gone is your reward.
Church, dogs to powerline meadow, watered parking area plants, amazed to see some sweet peas sprouted up despite neglect. Been working on components for pasta e fageoli at Tuesday’s casserole-a-thon. Soaked 3.25 lbs of small white beans Wednesday. Made Garlic toasts (and croutons for Lutheran Grief casserole) and boiled beans Thursday. Froze cooled beans in thirds Friday. Saturday reduced bean water by half. Sunday sautéed onions, garlic, seasoned with salt, pepper, cinnamon, divided into fourths with bean water for freezing. Will schlep it all to the church kitchen Tuesday and hope my guesstimated quantities are good enough to fill the four baking pans. Pastor’s wife will bring the parmesan cheese. I really like finding ways to use donated foods, in this case 8 day old loaves of French bread, boxes of elbow macaroni and a big ol’ jar of small white beans. Wonder what else is in the pantry for next month?
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Hey kids - Just a quick driveby. Need to get out while it's still only 70 degrees. Corey brought down a ton of brush that I need to haul up to the burn pile… and I need to do some more trimming first thing, then start hauling. Will be 80 degrees by noon, and I'll be inside by then.

Lynn - good job dropping 11 lbs 😁 and thank you for the tips. One of my go-to after supper snacks used to be an apple with a small piece of cheese. I stopped buying apples a few months ago because the quality wasn't very good plus the PRICE. ACK! I just put them back on the grocery list so will look for them again. Another favorite is hummus and a handful of baby carrots. Filling and a satisfying crunch - I put hummus on the list too. I'd never heard of Quest chips - I see Walmart has them. Low carbs and high protein too, I'll give them a try. 😉 I aim for 20 to 30 gm of protein per meal - I used to really pack it in then my doc said try to keep it under 100 gm, some values in my labs were a little wonky.
Barbara - I want to try your pasta e fageoli. I bet it will be delicious and a hit at the casserole a thon. Are you part Italian?😁 My DH used to make it "like grandma did." I could eat some right now, lol. I admire your strength in limiting the macadamia nuts. 😉
Decluttering/Minimalism - this little gal went from living in a nice house with plenty of room and furniture to living in a car three years ago. By choice - she wanted to travel. She then moved into a mini-home for a while until it had major engine trouble so now lives in a mini-van that she has gorgeously decorated. She's a professional counselor and is able to meet with clients via Zoom so is an employed "homeless" nomad and travels all over the US. She's on her way to Alaska. With her dog.
OK, after that introduction, she dropped an interesting video about her journey into getting rid of stuff, what to keep, etc. Some of this applies to anyone looking for more inspiration to declutter even if it's just cleaning out a closet or kitchen drawer. Video is about 23 minutes long.

It got up to 94F here yesterday, will probably cool off to 90F today. Cooling back to low 80's tomorrow then it looks like some typical high 60's - low 70's. I'll be ready.
Make it a super week, ladies! 😍

Barbara-Yes, we live in an urban area of 3+ million people. The reason it’s been so long is that his medical group apparently doesn’t have the type of surgeon he needs. There are not many even in this area. Plus, since he had the surgery done in another country, he was seeing a sports doctor until the screw started loosening. Then, they referred him to a trauma orthopedics surgeon in another medical group. That surgeon, who he should have seen right after he got back, is the one who suggested redoing the surgery because he’s not healing fast enough and it might be because the bones were misaligned in the first one. It’s very complicated and he goes in and out of depressive periods. He got one second opinion already and is getting another one tomorrow. Then he sees his surgeon Friday. After that he will have as much info as is available.
Someone mentioned golden kiwi. You can eat the skin and probably should to get the most out of it, but I don’t eat the skin on any type of kiwi. I love golden kiwi though. Much preferred over the other.
I put several more clothing items in the donate pile yesterday. I guess I did a pretty thorough job of clearing the last time, because there wasn’t much left that I don’t wear at some point. I did hang on to my skinny jeans, but I know they’re going out of fashion. They’re stretchy, so will expand along with me. I’ll likely donate those soon.I’m jealous of all of your hot weather. For the most part, it’s been overcast, drizzly, windy, and cool here for months. We’ve had 2-3 sunny days in the past 2 months. It’s a downer. The heater still comes on at night once in a while.
I ordered myself a small, battery powered string trimmer. Since I’ve become the front yard gardener (to my chagrin) I wanted something cordless and easier to handle. Our other one seems to have been designed for giants (my mister) and was heavy and annoying with the electric cord. My new one should arrive Wednesday. The front is a mess, but I want the trimmer before I tackle it.
The jacarandas are in nearly full bloom. I love them, but am glad we don’t have one in our yard. I enjoy them from across the canyon and in the parks and on walks.
Yesterday, the mister and I did a 1.5 mile hike at our regional park. It was his first try on more uneven surfaces. He might try the beach sand this week. He looked stable and confident and it was fairly quick. This is why making the decision to redo that surgery is hard. He doesn’t want to start over.
I weighed in today. Holding stable, which is surprising. I was sure I’d gained a few pounds.

Hello!
Well, DH drove back to Chicago and made it by 10:30 pm. The patient that I sent to PICU came back to our unit, and Vanessa said that she checked on her at 5 am, and by 6 am, her bed was saturated with blood, so she called a rapid, and now she is intubated on a vent in PICU. Meanwhile, I had a baby that had to get a face made. I had to put drops in her eye sockets every 2 hours. I gave her a good bath and dressed her up. She slept so well. She has grown on me. Her mom was not there, but she came during the day and asked the day nurse where she get the cute red and white polka-dotted dress. She was so happy that someone cared for her baby. On my last day, I dressed her in peach and paired it with a matching hat. My other parent was glad that I gave her son a good bath as well.
I changed his sheets and positioned him with pillows, and he slept well, too. My last patient was four, and she had a stroke. So, I had to monitor her closely for signs of a stroke. I called the doctor because she was complaining of a headache. So, the neurologist dealt with that. I had a pleasant 2 nights. We have had some thunder and rain, and Rose has been very clingy. I had a headache, so I took my medicine and used my essential oils while waiting for the okay to treat her headache. My headaches have been mild, thank goodness. Her head was better after giving Motrin. Yesterday, DH told me that he gained weight from his visit with me. I couldn't understand it. Then I noticed that a loaf of keto bread lasted me for 2.5 weeks; DH ate it all, and I also used it for my hot dog buns. He says he has a weakness for PB&J. 🤷♀️ I'll have to go to the store today. I will take Rose with me if it isn't too hot. MIL was in the hospital because she stopped taking her meds. Now she is back on track. I spoke with her, and she didn't regret it. Well, I think I'll read and color today since I was up all night sweeping and throwing out the trash. I think I will even knit. I have a doctor's appointment with my therapist in the morning.Tracey, can they try again to make the embryos? My friend used donor eggs and their husband's sperm to create embryos. Having to go through IVF and IUI's only to miscarry is very disheartening. I had one last try, and I decided to lose the weight that I gained with the fertility drugs and go on vacation. Then, after losing 65 pounds for the cruise, I got pregnant with my son without IVF. We learned from the other losses what to do, and I was high risk and could not go on my cruise. The doctors wanted to monitor me closely. I was okay with that. It is all a very emotional journey, to say the least. I am so sorry about the eggs. That is like suffering a miscarriage. As far as a loss. It is very depressing. Your daughter is going to need a lot of TLC. It is so unfair how some can have babies easily but don't care for them and abuse them. Then there are those like your daughter, who would be a wonderful mom and would cherish her baby but is having a hard time. Prayers for your family at this time.
Rebecca, you are looking so good. I am also happy that your son is in good spirits and feels better.
Tina, I hope your DH gets that screw out at least—prayers for a speedy recovery and healing.
Lisa, Corey, and Egg look so cute in that chair—prayers for Kim in her healing process.
Carol, I hope you can get a refill on your medication very soon. The side effects can be severe if you miss a dose.
I may come back later today; until then, take care.
XO,
Mo in Mississippi

A bit disappointed and frustrated with myself today. Despite not being hungry, the last 3 late evenings I’ve found myself snacking on some of the less than ideal foods now in the house since my daughter is home for the summer. Oh, to have the metabolism of an 18yo again! Just too easy to fall back into those old habits that got me to this unhealthy place.
Hoping for a mental reset today. A nice veggie scramble with eggs and egg whites paired with mixed berries for breakfast, ground turkey thawing for stuffed peppers for dinner, and lots of good options on hand for the time in between to keep myself on track. But those stupid hours between dinner and bedtime continue to be my weakest time.
Would love to hear how some of you manage those witching hours and stay on track…

DH talked to the owner of the care home. Seems she was just having a really bad day, She is NOT planning on selling the home. One less stressor for dh.
I have no idea what all is going on with dh. His behavior has been pretty much the same for many year but he has been dealing with his mom's need for help for 5 yrs as of tomorrow when she had her first fall, second fall was two days later which started the 24/7 with her then reduced to 2 times every day. Finally now that she is in the care home he only goes a couple times a week and only when he wants. Not on the set times she had for him- 10AM and 4PMHe has grown even more self centered over the years. He thinks of himself only.

such a sweet story, thanks for sharing

Had a very peaceful day yesterday. DH went to a toy show with his friend- he bought 4 model kits and talked to some vendors about some original Japanese Pokemon cards(before they were actually called Pokemon) that his uncle had sent him. He found the boxes of them when we were cleaning out more of his mom's house. They are very rare so thinking about selling them.
I spent the day doing chores on my list- A lot of work but felt great when I got done. No, he didn't notice any of it when he got home. Just went straight to his second room(son's room) and laid down and watched a movie until around 2AM I think.Stripped the bed completely including the waterproof mattress cover, washed everything. Fixed the memory foam topper that had slipped down and was bugging me.
Folded and put away a huge pile of my clothes that had piled up for too long.
Washed, folded and put away 3 loads of laundry,
Made and filled hummingbird feeders
Tried to clear off the kitchen table- toooooo many snacks piled up. I did toss quite a bit but still too much. DH did say he didn't realize he had some of the snacks that are now organized and not just piled.
NO more buying snacks until we go through what we have. This morning I need to go pick my raspberries before the Mockingbirds eat them all
I have been enjoying taking my cup of tea with me to the front and picking, and eating them. Can't get any fresher.
I also need to dead head my roses and water the front garden. Hoping to give away all the rest of my tomato starts so I will have one less thing to water. Not sure what dh has planned for today- he is still sleeping.
Just realized, I haven't watched tv for about a week now. I really enjoy the quiet. DH is just the opposite. He will have the tv on loud and have a Reels video on his phone at the same time.
Made a pot of coffee for the first time in the old percolator coffee pot that was MIL's. Smells really good. Dh can have coffee when he gets up. Glad I found the cord to it- it was in a totally different spot than the coffee pot was-in a pile of cords
Tea is about done and I want to get a few things done before he gets up and my quiet time is over.
Zumba tonight- Aqua starts next Friday night. Looking forward to it.
Plan on starting back tracking my food again. Have been terrible about it the past few months.
Debbie

this is the one I bought for myself(not available right now). It isn't very heavy. I was able to use it even with my tennis elbow still acting up. I like that it has two batteries with it though, I haven't needed both yet. I think I would give out before the battery did.
I bought another one that had a bit smaller blade on it for former hubby for Christmas that he really likes.
I like the larger blade but depends on what you are cutting if you need it bigger.
Amazon has a LOT to pick fromMade very quick work of all the things I was cutting- Kind of looking for what else I can cut.
In the fall I will use it and the long electric pole saw to cut back the plum tree and also cut all the jasmine out of the tree.I seem to remember mom using those other rollers once- my hair is super curly so they were terrible to get out. I also remember the sponge ones. They were comfy but just made my hair even curlier(but more evenly curled)
I like "shopping in mom's pantry" when I make meals for us when I visit to go with what ever I bring up. She helps at the food bank/program every Saturday and gets a box of things-one Saturday a month they give a second box to seniors. She doesn't cook much for herself anymore so I like to make extras for her for her freezer. She enjoys the meals and says she doesn't think about making some things when it is just her.
Last time, I brought up a huge jar of Pace mild salsa. Grabbed a pack of chicken legs from her freezer she had gotten at the food program. Simmered them down for a few hours- boned out the chicken, added it back to the sauce, added a can of corn and a can of black beans(both from FP) and let it simmer down a few more hours while we worked in the garden. Was great to come in at 9PM after working most of the day and having dinner ready. That with a simple salad I had brought. She had two helpings-said she didn't realize how hungry she was.Debbie

Hey kids,
Back inside, cooling down. Stopped a bit early, as I ripped the tire right off the hub on my trailer. Again. 😂🤔😲 I'm hard on yard equipment, I'm afraid. Need to get Corey to teach me how to weld anyway, maybe this weekend!
I hauled three big loads of brush, and on the third one, the tire just fell right off halfway to the brushpile (swear!). Oh well. There was still a lot to do, but sometimes the universe tells you to sit down, you know? Paid attention for a change.
Tomorrow I'll try to figure out a way to get the rest of it to the brushpile or alternatively, burn it where it sits. I'd rather not, but I'll talk to Corey. Unfortunately, our little tractor just isn't really set up to haul loads of brush for long distances. There is always a way.
Tina - I understand your mister's reluctance to drop back a step on the healing - the thought of a screw loose in an ankle is a bit unnerving, though. I did the same thing, got a battery string trimmer that I could handle. Corey's is massive, and gas-powered, essentially unusable for me.
Rebecca - So glad your youngest is doing better!
Lynn - I gave in to the witching hour rather than fighting with it, because I found that I sleep better with a little food in me. I save calories to eat a piece of string cheese or two and five saltines. Satisfies crunch, salt, protein and the carbs that help me sleep. I'm going to eat - I just need to keep it reasonable.
Please note - a lot of people freak out because a bit of salt will add some water weight, but it always comes off again… and if you can get yourself to look at your weekly average weight instead of what it says each morning, that's a big roller coaster gone from your life.
Chowing down on my first meal of the day, I've developed an odd craving for ham and swiss lately. It's good protein and tastes amazing.
Will jump in the shower shortly, and then settle in front of some Midsomer Murders with my current crochet project.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR3
