My thoughts are with my eldest sister. Her dog Tucker, the Bernese mountain dog, might have a torn ACL. He's been dealing with something for a couple weeks, enough that the pain is curling the pads of his back paw. She has a brace on that so he can get up with some stability. He has a back end carrier that has a handle so she can help him walk. He's 130+ lbs so she needs all the help she can get. Having work done at the vet, either x rays or some other type of scans done. She called me last night in tears asking if I could come down after he gets surgery, or whatever happens. I of course said I would! I would walk thru fire for her.π. Looking at Amtrak though, its a pretty crowded and busy time. She will keep me abreast of things. Poor Tucker.π.

Rita- what a fun job bottle feeding that calf, and a nice arrangement to help them out - critter sitters are sometimes hard to find.
Lisa - so neat that your best friend is a tax preparer. I've spent all day today, off and on, preparing a few spreadsheets to take with me. Plus, they said to arrive 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork. I'm not sure what all they want but jotted down a few things that I don't easily remember. I figure if they wanted comprehensive detailed information, they would have emailed me something. π
Rebecca - so sorry to hear about Tucker. I bet you sis is beside herself, I know he's a big part of her world right now. I know you're anxious to see her again. π
Heather - love that sparkly top. Hope it fits fine and anxious to see you model it. π
Rori - sorry the smoke and hot temps are hitting your area. That reminds me - there was a film in 1961 called "Summer and Smoke" starring Laurence Harvey, Geraldine Page and Rita Moreno. Might be fun to watch some time, I know I watched it decades ago. There were some neat films made in the 1950's and 60's.
It's fairly warm and muggy out right now. Weatherman missed it - temp has climbed to 83F. But still, much better than yesterday. Rain is still in the forecast for Friday, then temps possibly climbing back up into the mid-80's. I am anxious for August to be over, but it's been nice being able to go outside without a sweater.

π It's much cooler here today. There was a neighbourhood ice cream social with live music this afternoon. I left the dogs home and went hoping to have a chance to practice my social skills and eat some ice cream. Because of the heat and ice cream, all the seating was indoor along with the man playing a guitar so it was crowded and noisy. I enjoyed my ice cream which i counted as my dinner, the conversation I had with the two people sitting next to me, and the guitar music which was a selection on songs that were familiar.
β€οΈ Allie, poor Tracy. She sure has a pile of challenges. Please take care of yourself. You are not obliged to save her from her family mess.
π Heather, your sparkling top is awesome. You will feel great wearing it. And congrats on putting the cabinet together.
π Rebecca, I have been tracking my food, my exercise minutes, and my steps for years and it makes me feel good so I keep doing it.
π Roxy, welcome.

Carol β ask and ye shall receive:
Ganon: who every time he sees me probably thinks "oh HER again, that means walk time" Good thing he doesn't know pipβ¦.lol
Jessica got him from NC State. He was used for teaching purposes. Honestly, she's had him about 2 or 3 years and I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've heard him bark. He just gets very anxious when he hears a noise. He also has trouble in the car, he gets car sick. We think the fact that things are going by him as you drive makes him disoriented.
Rori β I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea. Honestly, even after getting the CPAP, I donβt feel any different. I do wish, tho, that my CPAP connected to the cell network. Well, I think I can change CPAPβs after 2 more years.
Rebecca β HUGS for Tucker. You are a wonderful sister

She checked in with me this evening, and Tucker is home, and she'll await the results of all the tests they did on him today. The vets don't think he completely tore his ACL but it might be a partial tear. Fingers crossed or surgery scheduled.

exermom- I had to laugh at your comment.I was told that Lucy was a bit underweight. She was at 35lbs and she should be at about 40lbs. What we did is added dog food kibble to her meals and instead of walking her 4 miles, we are taking the buggy and walking her 2 miles. That weight in was on the 1st. Today I took her to get weighed and itβs working, sheβs at 37.5 lbs.
Ethel, the day we got her she weighed 54 lbs (7/28) I got her weighed and sheβs at 49.5 lbs.

Good morning my friends!
Dad is okay so far. Thanks for your well wishes! I think he had a mini stroke but we won't know until he gets an MRI. First we have to see the primary care doctor, and that's later today. I'm a little nervous because his risk of stroke would be higher and he is not on blood thinners yet.
Both his sitter and his class teacher verified that his one eye was drooping but the Emergency staff questioned it. It may be more of a fold of eyelid skin, I don't know. I just see that his eyes look different. But the MRI will tell us if it was a mini stroke or not. His confusion and balance are always lousy so it's hard to tell.
And the repair guy fixed the dishwasher. The filter had gotten knocked loose. He looked at the stove burner too and said it was safe, but $550 to fix it so I declined. There are five burners and I only use two.
And I went to a home yoga class. A wonderful class, and my friend K watched my Dad. But it was hard to find and I was nervous meeting new people in a new place.
So it was a long day yesterday. I did a lot of hand dishwashing but they refused to air dry.
So I missed some entries on here, I apologize. I'm off my routine again. I have to be a rubber band and bounce back!
Heather I love the cabinet and the sparkle top! Snazzy!
Allie sorry about the nausea. It may help to think of nausea as the opposite of appetite. When I took Adderall, the slight nausea helped me quit junk food....And I agree with Lisa about Tracey. Kids are hard work, she made choices and it's not fair at all to blame you. You take care of yourself, and stand up for your boundaries. Or just let her whining blow on by. Sometimes it's just noise.
Lisa we have a fridge/freezer in the basement with old old food in it. One of my someday projects is to empty that, somehow get it up the stairs and out of here.
Michele hope Vince feels better. That cat welcome is cute. And Ganon has adorable huge puppy eyes!
Rori your romance gives me hope! As far as apnea, some people use the CPAP and see a huge difference in energy. I didn't. I had four sleep tests, two said I needed a CPAP and two didn't. Everybody is different. The CPAP needs to be cleaned and mine took distilled water so that was a chore. But my ex boyfriend said I snored without it, so he insisted I use it.
Roxi I snack on nonfat Greek yogurt, or cottage cheese, or I will nuke some seasoned black beans from a can. For me, the trick was to buy these little half cup dishes, so each snack is a half cup without really measuring. Another tip is that it takes thirty minutes to an hour to feel the fullness. So eat a tiny portion, then wait before you decide you are still hungry.
Rebecca poor Tucker! Wishing him comfort as he learns to deal. And yes family is about give and take.
Hope you all have a marvelous day! May you be happy, healthy, safe, and free!

A bit on scams β¦
This is the Australian Cyber Security Centre - Australian Government
https://www.cyber.gov.au/
This is a quiz, on that site, asking: How cyber secure are you?
https://www.cyber.gov.au/learn-basics#quizcontainer
This part of the site has Types of scams
Learn about the common types of scams, how to identify them and how to recover from them.https://www.cyber.gov.au/learn-basics/watch-out-threats/types-scams
One type of scam falls under "Threats and extortion". This is the most common one I encounter. I'm constantly getting voice mails telling me that the Department of Homeland Security (a United States department) has found a serious error with my immigration! The message sounds very serious and scary and would almost make me wonder if something was wrong β¦ except I immigrated to Australia, not the United States. ππ
Threats and extortionΒ
These scams use threats to frighten you into giving away money. It can include threats to your life, arrests or deportation. Scammers have been known to target vulnerable people like elderly or migrants. For example, they may pretend to be government officials from the Department of Home Affairs or the Australian Federal Police, and tell you that there are problems with your visa or immigration papers, threatening to deport you unless fees are paid. Another common scam is when cybercriminals pretend to be from the Australian Taxation Office, and ask for payment for outstanding tax debts. They will threaten arrest or legal action if you do not comply.
And another government site with a list of common scams:
and how to spot a scam:You all probably have similar sites with similar advice in your countries.
Here are a couple Canadian government cyber security sites:

Morning, my chicks,
Did the Epley Maneuver before I got out of bed this morning, trying to keep the vertigo in check, if not get it to disappear completely. Definitely better this morning than it was last night, but it's better every morning than it is at night⦠probably because my head isn't turning back and forth horizontally most of the night.
Anyway - PT at 2:30 this afternoon, which means I need to take a shower. Before that, the usual chores this morning⦠and might wash the rugs, might not. Still thinking about it. Will definitely vacuum. Still finding bits of sawdust that fell out of my hair from the work I was doing with the router yesterday.
Exciting, no? π Slept well, and nearly nine hours! Woke feeling rested at nearly 7 a.m. Happy with that.
Will hopefully get the new thyroid meds in with the higher dose this afternoon, and if not today, then tomorrow. The VA does very few things quickly in those terms. Plus the Skyrizi is on its way, will be taking that home injection the last week of the month.
Someone (Lanette?) asked if I thought the thyroid issues were part of the vertigo, and the short answer is "No, I don't think so."
I think it's positional vertigo, or BPPV, because the triggers shown at that link are an exact description of my reactions. I might try their alternative to the Epley maneuver to see if it's more effective more quickly, though.
Machka - I could ask my PT people, but it would put them in a bad position legally. If they did the Epley Maneuver and accidentally hurt me, they could be subject to a major lawsuit, because they have a very specific issue they're treating, and vertigo isn't in the referral. I won't put them in a place where they have no choice but to say "no." Not fair to them.
Rebecca - I'm sorry about Tucker, and sorry your sister is going through it, it's never easy.
Annie - Hope things aren't terribly serious with your dad. My mom had a number of TIAs - the transient ischemic attacks often called mini-strokes - and indeed, I watched her go through one. Supposedly, they do no lasting damage, but they are scary as all get out.
Time to get the garden watered before it gets too hot, and then get some writing done.
And the pics. The bowl is Corey's tomatoes that ripened this week so far. Another couple dozen are ripening on the windowsill. The canned green beans behind them are actually pickled - we picked up a bulk bag of them from Sam's so he can pickle them and eat them with his lunches over the fall and winter. The last picture is Egg impersonating an angelic kitty. πΉππ

Do you have to be referred to a PT?
I just go to the ones here like you would to a chiropractor, podiatrist, dentist, etc..
They're often the first place I'll go if I have joint, muscle, etc. types of pain or limited movement or whatever. Some places specialise in certain body parts, most are general. If I had dizziness, I'd go to a general PT practice and ask if they had someone who has taken training in vestibular issues. If they do, I'd book an appointment and get it dealt with.
If a PT figures I need an MRI or something, they'll send me to my GP who will order it and that's often the GP's first involvement in the situation.
Except that we can get a "Plan" made up by our GPs to give us discounts on 5 or 7 or so PT types of appointments (includes things like podiatrists etc.) each year. So once a year, we go to the GP for our annual appointment and at the same time, we renew our Plan.
Is yours a specialist PT? We couldn't have asked the PT who treated my husband's ruptured Achilles tendon after the surgery repair to do the Epley Manoeuvre because he specialises in feet and ankles.
I've been thinking I really should do something about my left shoulder but I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to check if there's a PT place with good reviews, close to where I work, that specialises in shoulders or upper body limbs.

Machka - Not necessarily in order, but yes, if I want the VA to pay for it, I must get a referral from my general practitioner. If I choose to use Medicare, it still requires my doctor to refer me, I'm afraid. Insurance companies rule the healthcare system, by and large. To my knowledge, mine is not a specialist. I've seen few specialized physical therapists, but I assume they do exist in our system, as well. I think they tend to be more functionally based, as in Sports PT or Geriatric PT. Could be wrong, though. I could probably pay cash to the PT, but it would be more than I pay any other way. They charge $300 to the VA for each visit. They don't get that much, the VA pays about half that, but that's also the way all health insurance works in this country. Negotiated pricing.
Stopped in between chores - tomatoes are picked, garden and flowers are watered, rugs are washed, but need to go out on the line, and then more vacuuming where the rugs wereβ¦
Later, my dears,
Love,

Carol - Fairy, my sick hen, has gotten over her crud just fine, except I think her egg factory is now shut down for the season.
Pip - Great job keeping your doggies fit. What a beautiful back yard/patio. Looks so inviting and cozy.
Annie - A lady in my neighborhood had a TIA about ten years ago. I'm not sure if they put her on meds for it, but she's been fine ever since. She's around 93. Hope your dad can continue in otherwise good health. Glad your dishwasher is fixed.
Lisa - I wonder if it would hurt just to ask in passing at the PT this afternoon if they have success in treating vertigo. If they say yes, there are techniques, then tell them you'll have your physician give a referral to them if it doesn't clear up in the meantime.
OK ladies, I'm out the door to Walmart and the CPA. It's wonderfully cool and overcast. I don't even mind my hair being frizzy, lol.

Hello all:
Can't believe how far behind I am-moving and unpacking and getting used to new place is time consuming!
It is going well. I can confirm at the 3:00 happy hours they have no trouble having a couple of drinks! Getting used used to some of the personalities here. Have met a couple of people who I think may become friends. Have gotten morning walks in and usually a brief after dinner. I enjoy the chair yoga.
Still having problems with back pain, etc. Saw an OSU espress NP who ordered an ultrasound of left abdomen-nothing showing up there so is most likely rebound from back/ribs. Even though MRI from last month doesn't show anything major, she got me referral to Back/spine doc. See them Monday. Got PT referral-scheduled for September. Going to pullout some of my old exercises and start back on them.
Need get a shelf completed and out up so I can put away some more stuff.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio
