In a rut!!!

well I had lost about 60 pounds in the last couple years but I got lost somewhere and gained about 25 pounds back. It’s just too convenient to eat out or reach for a snack. I really need to get back in the mindset of where I was when I lost all that weight. I was exercising 30 to 60 mins per day. Mostly treadmill but also peloton. I know the only solution is getting back on the treadmill and quit making excuses for why I cannot exercise. The truth is I am lazy, I really truly want to get this weight off again. I felt so good and motivated by losing the weight. I am going to do this once and for all!

Don't forget that most weight loss comes from dietary changes. I'm really focused on that for the first time in my life, rather than relying as much on exercise. I had a surgery and can't exercise much, although I am doing a lot of walking.

I'm trying to develop a repertoire of foods I can rely on to sustain and fulfill me while keeping me within my calorie range and not requiring too much mental effort, while still having significant flexibility and choice. I've done well in the past with a set of foods to draw from, but it wasn't sustainable b/c it was too narrow. I got bored and branched out to things I hadn't integrated into my regimen and didn't have a sense of how many calories, what portion I needed to feel satiated, how often I could indulge, etc. I'm trying to do better with that now.

Good luck on getting back on track.

Hi! I am in the same boat. A couple of years ago I lost around 60 lbs. using MyFitnessPal and Noom. Now due to job stress, changes in the Noom program (which I no longer use… don't like the changes), and lack of motivation I have gained back 40 lbs.…. FORTY… I am so disgusted with myself. I need to get out of this mindset that I am in and get back to getting healthy again. Not sure how to do it, but I do want to try. I am off to physical therapy to help with some back and neck problems. I know if I could get back to losing this extra weight the back and neck problems would get better too, and I wouldn't be going to physical therapy…

    Good luck to you.

I had been overweight most of my life. In January 2023 I decided to try again Typical me would start, lose some weight then go off plan and say why bother and quit, gain it all back and then some. This time around I found the challenges page on MFP and joined a few. I found that I would do more for a team than I would for myself and the biggest loser challenge jumped out at me. It made losing weight a game and fun. I liked it so much became co-captain of one of the teams. I reached my goal weight in November 2024 (losing 90 pounds), and have been maintaining ever since. Even though I am at my goal I am still part of the team and find it just as motivating.

The group is starting a new round soon - check it out!

Something that helps me with exercise is to make a deal with myself to do less but something. Something being better than nothing. Can you talk yourself into 10 min treadmill? Slow? What’s the shortest easiest amount you can’t say no to? Do that.

Try to pick a time when it would be convenient everyday. I like 6 days on and 1 day off. When your time comes around get on the treadmill. Don’t worry about how much you are doing at first. You are just trying to establish a habit. When your time slot is established then you can think about how hard and how much. Avoid the idea that every day has to be harder than yesterday. If you are really resisting on a particular day, dial it down. Just do something to keep your habit in place.

Don’t concern yourself with how many calories you burn. It will just encourage you to eat more. After awhile you will notice that little by little you are doing more than when you started. When you get to that, start trying to figure out how you can apply incrementalism to your weight loss efforts.

When I started weight loss I thought I was exercising to lose weight. Now I watch my weight to help with my exercise plan. Happens.

PS- big benefit of exercise is what it does for the brain.
