1 Year later - not as expected

I started a new lifestyle last year on September 5th, 2024. My bloodwork showed that I had eaten myself into Type 2 diabetes with an A1C of 6.7, my blood pressure was too high and the scale the next morning in our bathroom, without clothes, showed 348 lbs.

I started a new lifestyle; I have an autoimmune disorder (RA) and celiac disease (undiagnosed but verified). I cut out gluten and dairy, I cut out all processed foods, I cut out everything with added sugar, and voila. The scale went down. I felt better, I lost weight and my A1C four months later was now normal (5.6).

On February 5th, 2025, I was down to 306 lbs. and life was good.

On February 6th, I had a thyroidectomy, and while the surgery went well and I was sent home the next day, all hell broke loose in my body. The thyroid, such a small organ, but it’s responsible for so much. It even regulates your metabolism. I gained almost 20 pounds in two months.

At my three-month post-op meeting with my Endocrinologist in May, I learned that my weight gain was normal. It happened not just to me. June and July 2025 flew by, I lost a little but didn’t feel good.

Six weeks ago, I got serious again. As of today, I have now lost 59 pounds without weight loss injections or other magic pills.

No, sadly, I am not your typical success story because I had dramatic setbacks, BUT I am on it again.

I am no longer diabetic. My blood pressure is normal. I didn't accomplish losing 100 pounds in a year, but I know I will because now I know I can. I am still big but feel better. I will lose he weight because it happens automatically when you change to a healthier lifestyle.

It’s not a diet but a lifestyle change.

It's the thyroid's fault, not hers. I understand why she's like that and there's nothing to be done there.

@Lady_Magenta I’ve followed your posts for a while.

I don’t know how this devolved into what it did, but I think you’re doing wonderfully well, and am as proud as any random Internet stranger can be for you for hanging in through it all.

It’s clearly been a challenge, and you’re still determined to win.

Good job! Hang in there and keep adjusting as needed.

We’re all here for the same reason, to support one another. And occasionally cheer. And if you perceive or project that someone wants a pat on the back? Search my name on the NSV thread if you want to wag a finger at a back-patting seeker. I’ll take ALL the pats in the back I can get. They’re super motivating.
