@frankwbrown Thank you for the information regarding the DEXA and bod pod scans. I'm Canadian, so it all works differently here. A few years ago looked into DEXA and you need to be referred by a doctor; i.e., you cannot just go and get one just because you want one. Interestingly, if your doctor believes you are at risk of Osteoporosis, then they will request a bone density scan, which typically also includes body composition data and then the scan is covered by public health. But if you just want one for your own personal information, then it costs out of pocket. Things are always changing, I just looked up two places near me.
- One and costs $125 for 1 scan, $225 for 2 scans & $300 for 3 scans (like yours buy in bulk and save), still need a referral from either Medical Doctor, Dentist, Chiropodist, Chiropractor or Nurse Practitioner.
- The other is a pay for service full health assessment (includes doctor(s) reviewing and providing analysis of the data) that includes a DEXA scan and a whole host of other tests can costs … wait for it …. $4075. What is really strange to me about the whole health assessment, is I've had more than half of the tests done paid for by public health as part of our normal health screening programs.
I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but I don't like spending money. As a mother of four, I used to always say (and still do) "free is my price point". My BIA scale was about $100 and I can use it over and over again. Honestly, the best part about it is that my husband has been weighing himself several times a week and I can look at his phone and see how he's doing.
I typed all of that and then saw your two PDFs from your scans. Thank you so very much for sharing those. My observations/comments:
- You've had knee surgery
- Visceral fat should not be zero. We need some Visceral fat to protect the organs.
- Bone report is really confusing. It says the higher the Z-Score the better, yours is 1.778, which is 93 to 97% of the population, but the Age-Matched Z-Score is 6.2? What does that mean?
- Pages 3 - 6 are interesting, but, we both know, we don't need them to give us those graphs.
- The picture of body between the two reports is dramatically different. Well done!
- Congratulations to you on these results (I know you've put some weight back on since this last scan, but 70lbs fat loss and 85lbs weight loss is a major accomplishment):
I know my BIA scale + taking body measurements is not as accurate as a DEXA scan, but other than the Android & Gynoid segmentation, I'm not convinced that getting a DEXA scan would be worth it for me. Having said that, I do agree with you that it could give me a baseline to compare against my BIA scale and evaluate the accuracy of the BIA scale. By comparison, this is a PDF of the report I get from my BIA scale.
Re our mini-challenge —> I am very competitive. A few years ago at work, we created teams and did a scavenger hunt in the Distillery District. It was an absolute blast, but everyone was like, oh 'she takes it so seriously, we know her team will win'. I did take is seriously, but I think also had the most fun and, yes, my team won! In this challenge, we are all winners! Any loss is a good loss. Regardless of the results, fun is being had. Also, daily fluctuations are a real thing and my start was at a high in my 3 months of 138-142 hovering, so really my start weight should be 138 or perhaps 140; In the end, it really doesn't matter. The scale was up for me today. One day at a time. The trend over time is what really matters.
@Crochetluvr How could the tree stand be at the bottom of the box? That would mean last Christmas, you removed all the ornaments, set them aside, then put the tree stand in the box and put all the ornaments on top. It kind of reminds me of when my daughter would fill the dog's vittles vault and forget to take the scoop out first. Yup, that's why we have more than one scoop.
@the_reflex Welcome back! We are glad you are here.

Good Morning! I hope it's not as gloomy where you are as it is here. 🌧
Day 01—12/01— 161 - Another salty meal yesterday.....shrimp basket....got me a bit bloated. Today I had a turkey club salad from Saladworks....that was my main meal. Spent the day decorating and still haven't found my tree stand. I have a feeling it's in the bottom of the ornament box...which means I have to take all the ornaments out to get to it. Not very bright of me....I'll know better next time.
Day 02—12/02— 161.4 - UGH! I really wanted to see the end of the 160s. Still, it's my own fault. But started today with an Atkins shake. Lunch looks like a tuna sandwich and dinner, tilapia. Feeling a little down today....hope I can get the ambition to finish decorating.

Hi everyone.
I am Dawn. 5'2" 65yo, SE BC Canada. I am here to lose weight, like all of us.
Day 01—12/01 -- 137.8 - I lost 1 total pound in the last 100, and put it back on last night, sigh.
Day 02—12/02 — 137.8 - 3 days in a row I missed breakfast. Today I will make sure to have something. I have been peeling beets etc. in the mornings and then wham, it is time to get to work. I still have a bucket of carrots to deal with. Day off tomorrow, my one day this week, so I will get to work on processing those. I think that I am going to have my once per 3 months ribs tonight. I will pay the piper early in this 100.

100 Days of Weighing In #25 ^^^^^ December 01, 2025 through March 10, 2026
My Name is Donna, Age 65. I am 5’5” tall & I live in Northern Michigan USA. My goal this round will put me weighing less than I have in exactly 20 years and in my mid 40’s. Seems INSURMOUNTABLE and IMPOSSIBLE but never say never, right? My highest weight was 253 and I started MFP weighing 235. I started the 100 day challenges at 196.2. I will continue with my little experiment of losing weight in nibbles and bite-sized pieces. I started the experiment in round #23 and so far I have never completely reached total goal, but have done quite well nonetheless in both #23 and #24. Better than usual for sure. Oh, but December is tough and could put me in a catch-up game for most of this challenge so I must be very careful. And winter is not usually successful for me in general either. There are so many extra things to contend with. However, if I lay my excuses aside, avoid self-sabotage and expect no more than those bite-sized pieces of weight loss, I know it will add up. Here’s to being more fit and in better health by the end of this challenge!
Thanks for sharing your journey with me and allowing me to share mine with you. I am grateful for you all.

CURRENT WEEK:
Day 01—12/01-- DNW↔️ (Trend Weight: DNW) My son & I finished most of the leftovers we kept yesterday. It was pretty much like the Thanksgiving feast all over again, or slightly re-imagined. There may be a some of the pies left in the downstairs fridge but I’m over it and done with Thanksgiving food. Back to basics today. Good luck this round everyone. We’re starting with a tough month, usually from beginning to end, but we can do it! I love following everyone’s weight, fitness, strength and maintenance goals. Thanks to all for sharing. Let’s Go!
🎅🎅🎅🎅 Day 02—12/02—179.6 ❌ (Trend Weight: 179.8) Well there’s the true damage from my Thanksgiving dinner and other shenanigans regarding the leftovers. Looks like I have an extra 1.6 lbs to lose this week PLUS my normal goal loss (0.7) for a GRAND TOTAL of 2.3 lbs. My trend weight has not changed in the end, however, (after two DNW days) so there’s that. Last night I gave up some of my healthier dinner choices for some of that leftover pie after all. It was a trade-off that was pretty selfish, irresistible, weak and delicious. Just keeping it honest here. It wasn’t very smart either as it does not support me making (and keeping) better habits in my life. Holidays are extra tough! Moving onward, forward and further from that 180 border for the rest of this week is my intent. I have several days of travel next week that I don’t want to be devastating to my overall progress. I must get back into my good habits and have SOMETHING to fall back on in the midst of all the upcoming Big City temptations. Focusing on mindset. I’m still in the 170’s (barely) and grateful for that. I’ve got the ball, now it’s time for me to Run Forest, Run.

@frankwbrown Unfortunately there are no places within hours of me for a scan but the information is fantastic.
@age_is_just_a_number I love your concise info from your scale. My scale gives me lots of info, but nothing like yours! What is the brand name of your scale and how do you get the PDF report? I'm assuming a PC website?

I'm Lynn, from the snowy part of BC, Canada. Down 1lb from start of last 100 Day challenge but also have recovered from a hellish weight backslide in August & September. Switched from WW to “The Livy Method”; it’s been a LOT of information but focuses on behaviour and mindset change; some great non-scale victories.

This is the scale I bought
Manufacturer : Globel eFit(Licensed by GE)
Item model number : CS10G
GE site link - Get support about GE CS10G
Of course, I also did a scale comparison before making my purchase decision. This is my Google Sheet with my comparison. It was from a couple of months ago, so prices (all in Canadian dollars unless otherwise specified) and other details may have changed. I make no representation or warranty around the accuracy of this information.
Generating the report is done within the mobile app.
A few things I didn't realize about the scale I bought:
- There is no website for the data —> everything is done via the mobile app
- You can do a weigh-in without your mobile app connected in the moment, but then it sends that reading to the next mobile app that is connected. So, this translates into, you really need to have your phone with you, connect the app to the scale (which is just opening the app on your phone and stepping on the scale and stepping off), wait a second, then hold the handles and stand on the scale to get your details directly into the app.
- My husband finds this a little annoying
- We have figured out, that he can open the app on his phone in the bedroom, then go over the bathroom, wake up the scale, it connects to his app, then weigh and everything is fine
- It says you can have unlimited number of users —> this is true, you could have any number of people stand on the scale to get a weight. But, if you want the scale to send the data to the mobile app, then that is limited to 8 user profiles.
One feature that was really important for me was the retractable cord for holding onto. I really did not want a loose cord on the floor in the bathroom.

@bteri107 I hope you are feeling better quickly. I'm sure everyone and their cousin is giving your their sore throat remedies…. just in case they are not: I find Bee Propolis really helps. I use two different types - liquid drops and a tablet. As soon as I feel a sore throat coming on, I take the drops. If I'm feeling a off like I'm coming down with something, then I add the tablet to my morning vitamins.

DEXA scan report
- VAT — I've read that your VAT (Viseral Adipose TIssue) should be around 10% of your total body fat. I was also told that for me a VAT under 8 lbs is good.
- BMD / Z-score — Yes, this was a bit confusing for me as well. On one scan, my BMD (bone mineral density) was 1.743 and my age-matched Z-score was 5.9. Looking at the chart, one is likely to look up 1.743, but in fact, it is 5.9 that should be looked up. Z-score is the number of standard deviations the BMD is from the population mean. In a normal distribution, virtually everyone should be within 3 standard deviations of the mean. So what does a Z-score of 5.9 mean (pun intended 😉)? How could my BMD be nearly 6 standard deviations from the mean? Well, apparently my artificial right knee had a hand in that (a body part pun?)!
- I was definitely surprised - and happy - to see the body image comparisons.
- My desire in getting a DEXA scan had a lot to do with my BMI score. I hate BMI! While it can be a useful indicator that someone may have a weight problem, it is pointless to put much value in it personally. After all, it is only a ratio of mass to height and tells you nothing about the body's fat/muscle composition. According to my DEXA scans, I have ~160 lbs of lean mass. At 6'1", a BMI of 24.9 (at the very top of the healthy range, just before overweight) would be a weight of 189 lbs. That works out to be (189 - 160)/189 = ~15% body fat. If I had zero percent body fat, my BMI would still be 21.1, right in the middle of the healthy range! Bah, BMI… who needs it! lol
Our mini-challenge — I'm competitive too, but I am not distressed that I'm behind. Keep it up!
My scale —
I have a Withings Body+ that I got 5½ years ago for $79. It does not have electrodes for the hands. It reports weight, BMI (bah!), fat mass, lean mass, water mass, bone mass, muscle mass (which is just lean mass - bone mass), and body fat %.- it uses both bluetooth and wifi (to sync to the cloud), so no need to have phone nearby.
- Withings connects and syncs with MFP, but it only sends the weight, none of the other metrics.
- Withings doesn't sync with Garmin Connect, but it has a webpage from which I can manually copy and paste into my Google sheet.
- I've been tempted to buy a Garmin Index S2 scale, because 1) it does sync with Garmin Connect, and 2) it would likely improve my fitness age metric. My Fitness Age is currently 68.5, and Garmin says I could reduce it by 7.5 years if I got my BMI down to 22.6 or below. Never gonna happen! I know it doesn't matter, but I can't help wanting that validation. lol
- The Garmin Index S2 costs $199, vs $89 for the GE CS10G, and it has no hand electrodes.
Your scale —
The GE CS10G looks good. But how do you get the readings into your spreadsheet?
Is this true:The GE CS10G smart scale syncs with the Fit Profile app, which then allows it to sync with third-party health platforms like Apple Health, Google Fit, and Fitbit. The Fit Profile app is required to establish the connection via Bluetooth.

Day 2, Tue, 91.3 kg, 30 minutes running on the treadmill. In the last 6 months I have indulged in buying large bags of potato chips. I sampled all the brands and most of the flavours. I blame some of my weight gain due to those chips. I have decided to ban myself from all potato chips until I reach goal weight. I don’t think that is too onerous a task. Back in the day a 40 gram bag was common, now they are hard to find. 150 gram bags are where it’s at. Due to indulging today I can expect a gain tomorrow.
Day 3, Wed, 91.7 kg

@Crochetluvr Thanks for the encouragement … getting below 200 and holding it would be a huge accomplishment for me in 2026! Decorating … LOL you made me laugh about the tree stand. Yes we learn year to year even at our age! I image that last time I changed the lights on the tree I had learned from the past. This year we plugged in the tree lights and one strand did not work. It was not the fuses. If I pull off one bulb this style stays lite so it was not a loose bulb. Electricity passed through to the next strand. So I ripped off the bad lights and low and behold I had put 2 new boxes of lights stored away :) So I had one on hand that matched the last time I ran into this issue. They say that LEDs don't go out and the light bulbs are fine just something about the rest of the string … no telling!.

12/3: DNW Their other grandmother is suppose to take over today … we will see if I get to go home. Up during the middle of the night with the 18 month old teething and then at 4am with the 3.5 yr old says she her ear hurts. Trying to determine if the older one needs to see a doctor or if it is temporary. I did get her back to sleep with some pain reliever to help with her earache.Lots of high calorie meals with the grandkids plus fast food for lunch is not going to show well when I return home!!
More about me … DH and I are both retired. We have 3 kids ages 31 33 35 that are all married, have their own home, hard workers. We must have done something right is what we always tell each other LOL With both of us working and traveling and think they all just learned to survive. The older 2 kids each have 2 girls so we have granddaughters ages 6 months, 18 months, 3.5 yrs and almost 4 yrs. Our daughter says she is not done … thinking of a 3rd or 4th. Our youngest claims they are planning to start having kids in 2026 … we will see. He lives in Austin not Houston area so it will be a bigger effort to help them. DH has talked about moving constantly out of state (out of the heat and humidity) further away from family. But he has also talked about moving closer to the kids. So far we are still in limbo … had plans to remodel the house but the expense was more than we paid. It had a lot to do with wanting to make substantial changes to the kitchen and bath (like moving appliances and walls).
I started watercolor as a new hobby in Dec 2023. In June of 2024 I met up with a group and began painting daily images calendar style … it has been fun. As you can see from my November calendar I watched a lot of Christmas Card YouTube videos LOL

Quiet day yesterday. Walked the dog. Still not exercising, while I rest my ankle, which is feeling a lot better, but not completely back to normal. Both today's scale and 7 day trend have dipped below my 3 month 138-142 hovering. Consistency is key —> I have learned this over and over again during 2025. 6 out of the past 7 days I met my IN calorie target of 1770.

Congratulations on fitting into the jeans! How satisfying!

I'll be so glad if I can get all of that red out of there in the next 10 days or so. Had a great cardio and strength workout last night. Off to work!

Good Morning! Geez....its Wednesday already?
@bteri107 , ohhh...no time is good to be sick, but at this time of year, its especially frustrating. Speedy recovery!
@dawnbgethealthy , he, he...if I can remember when its time to put the Christmas stuff away after New Year's, I will be happy. 😉
@age_is_just_a_number , ohhh....jeans! That's a HUGE one! CONGRATS! Last week, my daughter gave me a bag of her jeans that are too small for her....I have enough now to last me the rest of my life. 😂
Day 03—12/03— 159.2- I don't know what happened to me yesterday...felt sick to my stomach. Don't think it was anything I ate (had exactly what I said I was going to yesterday). As a result I didn't get anything accomplished except on the phone. Today I feel better. Had a granola bar for breakfast.…the rest of today's food is undecided, atm.

BMD —> Other than the puns, I'm still not sure I understand how those metrics work. There was also a notation on the report that implied the DEXA scan was not the best way to assess bone mineral density. I know, there are other ways to test for bone mineral density and, again in Canada, if your doctor believes you are at risk of Osteoporosis, then they will order a specific bone mineral density test.
BMI —> BMI was developed to evaluate a population of people. It was never intended to be a metric used for individuals. Dr. Mike has a video on BMI, which includes how it was developed, it's flaws and why we still use it. It is so easy to calculate and not very useful. I did not include it in my scale comparison chart as a metric I was interested in.
My scale —>
Fit Profile is the app that goes with the GE scale.
Nearly everything in my spreadsheet I just add manually daily (it is literally four numbers).
I hadn't explored whether it is possible to export the data from my scale until just now and it is so easy. Just go to the show all data view and click share, select dates, select how you want to share (Google sheet, email, etc. I selected email) and it send an email with an Excel file attached. I don't think I'd do this daily, but it might be useful on a weekly or monthly basis.
The app does connect with Apple Health and FitBit. Apple Health connects with MFP. Since getting the new scale, my daily weight automatically updates in all three of the other apps. I don't use Apple Health for much; mostly just as a data bridge between apps. Data that goes to each app:- Apple Health —> weight, BF%, BMI, Lean body mass
- FitBit —> weight
- MFP —> weight, BF%
Both MFP & Fit Profile allow for manual entry of inches. Unfortunately, none of those connect with other apps. MFP you can export the data. I could not find a way to export the data from the Fit Profile app. Fit Profile has additional measurements that I hadn't set up on my MFP. I think I'll add those to MFP and then transcribe the data over to MFP and stop entering on Fit Profile. The main reason I entered in Fit Profile in the first place was to see if it would use that data in the PDF report. It does not use the inches data in the PDF report.

So are cookies, ice cream and anything with chocolate. Earlier this year, I asked my husband (who does all the grocery) to not buy any of those things. I am very grateful that he has reduced the frequency significantly. Every now and again, I'll ask him if we have cookies in the house and he'll say 'no, you asked me to not buy them'. For me, not having them in the house is the best way to not eat them. I've also found that popcorn is a crunchy and less caloric way to satisfy that salty/crunchy craving. We don't have popcorn that often.
@Lilylady3k I hope the little grandchildren aren't sick and that they are feeling better.
@Crochetluvr I hope you are feeling better today. One 'good' thing about not feeling well yesterday is you had a nice little overnight drop on the scale this morning.

I’m Lynn, from the snowy part of BC, Canada. Down 1lb from start of last 100 Day challenge but also have recovered from a hellish weight backslide in August & September. Switched from WW to “The Livy Method”; it’s been a LOT of information but focuses on behaviour and mindset change; some great non-scale victories.
