OP, loading your body with salt water, while popular, has absolutely no scientific evidence to back it up. The reason you 'flush' is because you're just poisoned yourself by drinking a large amount of salt water, and your body is trying to get rid of it ASAP.

no salt water isn't going to hurt me just google salt water flush it's a hell of a lot safer and gentler than laxatives.

People lost at sea, surrounded by water, die of dehydration if they aren't rescued in a very short period of time. Do you know why?

SALT WATER CAUSES DEHYDRATION!!!!! You can die from that in two days.

Get out of here with your logic. She doesn't want to hear it. :flowerforyou:
    True. So very true.

Salt water is perfectly safe for ingestion. No harm possible. None at all.

Anyway, I can understand where the OP is coming from. Intermittent fasting makes one feel better, feel lighter, and feel rejuvinated.

Just to clarify... the OP isn't asking about IF. She's talking about shoving salt water up her butt. Whole different ballpark. Not even the same sport.

I know I may get flamed or criticised for doing a detox, but it makes me feel good, and I have no adverse effects from it. It's not like it's a lifestyle or a sustained thing I do anyways.

Just think about better options than a salt-water flush if you are determined to do a detox.

It's not the fasting / detox that people are upset about. It's the salt water being ingested. Salt water is not safe to drink in any quantity.

It is unfortunate that the OP is looking for approval to do something which can potentially cause a lot of harm and refuses to even acknowledge this fact.

I don't bully anyone. I sit on their heads until they calm down and accept I'm right. Or stop breathing. Then I give them CPR and they owe me like forever.
I think OP deserves a rap.

    Got sludge in my colon,
    It's makin me wack,
Wanna shoot salt up my *kitten*,
Nature finna put me back on track,
These hoes on MFP diss my salt,
I'll pop a cap, get charged with assault,
So tired of these chomos who hate on my detox,
Hex these mofos and hope they get the pox,
I'm too thug for advice, dat shiz is fo chumps,
Now let me put in my enema, pump, pump pump!

'cept she's gonna DRINK it. Please, try to pay attention.

    You're a tangerine cat. I am a RAP ARTISTE! I do what I want!
And to clarify, I am butthurt about both the salt and the detox. Unless this is Dr.Oz's Ramadan special, you do not need a detox.

I am glad to see that 99.9999% of these posts are calling out the OP on this idea. It needs to be said and it needs to be blunt. This site does NOT support unsafe weight loss methods. The ideas presented in the OP fall under that. Period. It is not something that should be supported. We, as a community, have the responsibility to make sure other members know what to stay away from and what the health issues could be.
This! It is not only the OP reading these responses. There are undoubtedly several other people with these same questions (uninformed plans might be closer to the mark) reading these forums. I like to think of MFP as a Wikipedia for fitness and nutrition. If you go into Wikipedia with nonsensical ideas and no sources, you are not allowed to contribute. Not because anyone is mean or a bully, but because misinformation is dangerous.

    Edit for spelling.

Uh, does it matter? In the out door or down the hatch. Either is a stupid idea. Still not talking about IF.
  • Look, cat, detoxes are dumb as hell. They're only tailored for a certain few people (all those people suffer from certain medical conditions) and they never contain salt.
Why don't we all take a trip to the beach and just lap at the sea like we're on acid? We'll leave slim in two ways: shi*ting our pants and in a body bag.
Death is the number 1 weight loss method.

look, you would be safer to drink your own urine, salt water is a bad bad idea. i dont know why your doing what your doing, it makes no sense. fruit can offer the same effects as a "detox" but without the risks to your health. all your going to lose and poop and water weight. a detox wont make you poop out fat. why dont you just do it the normal way... its so simple really...

I'm trying to detox my body i've already lost water weight with the diet and exercise I'm on but I feel like i need to detox all the sludge in my colon so I'm starting a saltwater flush regimen and I'm starting my fast tomorrow I've slowly lowered my food intake to 1 meal a day and now I'm not eating nothing for 2-3 days to allow the saltwater flush to work it's magic my question is other than not thinking about food how can i feel full. I know sucking on peppermint and eating ice works but i'm wondering if there's any vitamins i can take to help me with the hunger pains?

Evidence that we need to institute some kind of IQ test for voting and procreating.

I know we are supposed to be nicer here, but seriously?! How can you read this lunacy and not respond?

Yeah, I noticed that this was your first post.

It seems "first-time posters" disproportionately have some great new idea they want to spread around.

OP, no one here us telling you not to fast. Several people have, in fact, given you advice to try 5:2 or IF. What people are urging you to do (and rightly so), is to stop the madness and DON'T DO A SALT WATER DETOX. Of course a cursory google search of "salt water cleanse" will tell you it's perfectly safe. The websites that hit are trying to get you to do it. Google isn't an infallible research tool, so take any info you find on the internet with a grain of salt ( ). The people on here are not trying to be disrespectful. They're trying to help you. If you didn't want anyone to advise you against the salt water cleanse, you shouldn't have posted about it on a forum about HEALTHFUL weight loss.

I wish you luck but I sincerely hope you reconsider the "cleanse."

OP: I haven't read the thread, but by now you've likely been mocked, teased, told you're wrong. Possibly been told you're stupid, very likely insulted.

While the approach is rather juvenile, the message isn't wrong: You don't need to detox, or flush, or whatever. Just start eating better, and at a deficit. Start moving. And drink lots of water. You'll feel better in no time.

    From livestrong:

    Warning

The salt water cleanse should never be used without eating or drinking anything else, Moores warns. The lack of calories in the salt water cleanse may quickly lead to starvation. Also, people with high blood pressure should consult their doctors before starting the salt water cleanse, as the salt levels in the cleanse may be too high for their condition, according to Detox Resource. Finally, anyone who uses the salt water cleanse is at risk for developing hypernatremia, an electrolyte imbalance caused by excess sodium. If you experience dizziness, dry mouth, or excessive thirst, stop the cleanse immediately, drink plenty of plain water and contact your physician.

I'm sorry, but OP, what you're wanting to do is very unhealthy and potentially dangerous. You said you googled info, but you must have clicked on the link that only give this a positive review. Did you research the side effects at all? Did you talk to your doctor before starting this? My guess is, probably not. Heed the advice and warnings so many have already given you. It's all good advice, no matter how it was given. Yes, this is a support site. We're supporting you by telling you what you need to hear, not what you WANT to hear. We're not going to condone an unsafe method to whatever you're trying to accomplish. That's not what we're here for. We're here to tell you our opinions/advice/experiences. Stop being so defensive about an idea, for the lack of better terms, is ridiculous. Research everything before you jump head first, talk to your doctor, listen to good advice, and find the right path.

You should definitely clean out your colon! If you are having a colonoscopy or bowel surgery. If you are doing it for any other reason you are misinformed. If you don't have any medical issues your body doesn't need any outside help with detoxification. You have a liver and kidneys to do that and your intestines move everything through the way they are supposed to.

So eat. Then you won't be hungry.

As for growing up...I think you need to take your own advice. You posted on a forum asking for opinions, people gave you honest, blunt and great advice, and you have gotten all butthurt because it's not what you wanted to hear. You don't want to know the possible dangers of what you are doing, you want someone here to tell you that it'll work and it'll be great, and no damage to your body at all...sorry, that ain't gonna happen. This has got to be one of the most dangerous cleanses I've ever read about. It seems most of us seem to know more about it than you do in the fact that you say you already have gastro issues, so you are wanting to do a cleanse that can actually make your issues worse along with keeping the "filth" that you are trying to get out in because you are dehydrating yourself.

^this. People are honestly trying to help since you posted asking for advice. If you were stranded at sea you probably wouldn't drink seawater, right? Also I think you told everyone to google it... You can find anything on the Internet. Anything. There will always be "evidence" for contradicting viewpoints, which is why you need to check multiple sources, think critically about which are reliable, and above all, use common sense. I hope you plan to take some advice that has been given here, just follow the steady-paced, sensible approach to getting healthy.

Please, stop this nonsense. Your colon does not have sludge in it. You are not dirty, bad, or unclean, no matter what some quack told you. Your digestive system was made to digest food. That is its function. You have not hurt it by eating your entire life.

Eat at a moderate deficit and move around. repeat.

This!! Your body detoxifies itself NATURALLY. Just eat healthy, drink plenty of water and exercise.

For the love of god STOP DOING THIS RIGHT NOW. This is NOT safe.

"If you're consuming seawater, the results of osmosis are spectacularly disastrous. Remember the salinity of seawater is almost four times that of our bodily fluids. If gone unchecked, the net transfer of water from the inside of your cells to the outside will cause the cells to shrink considerably -- and shrinkage is never good.

Unless you drink a lot of freshwater, the body's regulatory mechanism in this situation is potentially fatal. With seawater, the change in sodium concentration outside our cells is the main culprit. In order to regain an isotonic state, a must for cell survival, the body attempts to eliminate the excess sodium from its extracellular fluids. It secretes urine. However, human kidneys can only produce urine that's slightly less salty than saltwater. So, in order to remove the extreme amount of sodium taken in by saltwater, we urinate more water than we actually drank. And dehydration sets in.

So, if you're guzzling seawater, you actually aren't taking in any water but are incurring a net loss, leading to depleted body fluids, muscle cramps, dry mouth, and yes, thirst.

The body tries to compensate for fluid loss by increasing the heart rate and constricting blood vessels to maintain blood pressure and flow to vital organs. You're also most likely to feel nausea, weakness and even delirium. As you become more dehydrated, the coping mechanism fails. If you still don't drink any water to reverse the effects of excess sodium, the brain and other organs receive less blood, leading to coma, organ failure and eventually death."
  • I've been through this battle before with others over this topic on numerous occasions. I do water fasts for 3 days every 1 - 2 months to purify myself and I have even been given the green light from my nutritionist AND my doctor to do this. Since then, my blood pressure has dropped immensely, and I find I sleep better, digest food better, and just overall feel like new. When I do my water fast I drink nothing but water for those 3 days and ease back into eating RAW foods like fruit & veggies, or it can make you very sick afterwards going back into just eating how you were before you did the fast. I took 2 daily multivitamins, and i take green tea, apple cider vinegar, and b12&b6 supplements. If you really feel like you need a change, try infusing your water with frozen fruit gives you a nice fresh taste :) Happy Detoxing!
