How do you distract yourself on the treadmill?

Music. Plus rather than staying at one pace now for the whole 30/60 minutes ill do 2 minutes running, then 2 minutes walking at 0 incline 5.0kph followed by 3 minutes on a level 11.0 incline and 3.6kph etc.... And keep alternating. It helps the time pass much faster for me.0

Mine is weird. While I listen to music like most people here, I pretend I'm in an action scene when I run
Like I'm in a building and a bomb is about to go off, and I have to run as fast as I can to escape.
I get an adrenaline rush from my childish imagination and I'm able to pull through to the end.
I'm fully aware I need to grow up.
no way, that's awesome. don't tell anyone...but i imagine i'm dancing on a stage (in a not so G rated way) while I'm on the elliptical. To look at me, i'm a stereotypical librarian looking woman, but what goes on in my head is rated R lmao and the music I listen to on my mp3 player is for my ears only :blushing:
Nice distractions!0 -
I do intervals it keep motivated, I do 2 min at good pace and 1 min as fast as I can. So it keeps me motivate to see how fast i can go and how long.0

I either listen to music (mostly Metallica for running) or watch TV (depending on what's on the TV in front of me at the gym). I also calculate my pace time every quarter mile. And then figure out how much faster or slower (LOL...slower has NEVER happened), I need to go for the next quarter mile to get where I want...quarter mile up...recalculate...repeat until desired mileage completed.0

Just kidding. No treadmill here. I ride my bike and distract myself from the pain by trying real hard not to get hit by cars.0 -
Mostly "on demand" from my cable provider. It's how I watch the shows I don't want to watch in front of the kids - "True Blood", "House of Lies", "Game of Thrones", etc. When I run outside it's all about music.
Ha! Me too exactly! Though, you forgot about Homeland.
Though sometimes, I just "think". Between work, kids, and activities, it's nice to give my brain some active time to defrag.0 -
music is the way to go! I do random setting so it is run/walk....0

I built a desk for my treadmill so I can do extended, high-incline workouts (aka "deskmilling") while still being productive. I can watch TV/Netflix, surf Internet, stream music, sort mail, e-pay bills, telework, etc.
My desk is large and sturdy enough to hold all of the following items simultaneously, yet can be quickly disassembled (<5 min) after the workout and stored between the treadmill and the wall:
• Work laptop, docking station, keyboard, and mouse
• 24" LCD (portrait) and 20" LCD (landscape)
• Home laptop
• 10" Android tablet
• 1 qt bottle and snacks (trail mix, protein bar)
• 10" turbo fan
• Clip-on lamp
• Cordless phone
• Personal and work cell phones
• TV and Roku remote control0 -

They just started playing the show Supernatural in the am at my gym. One of my fav's! I'm lifting mostly, and was skipping the treadmill when I was done, but now I look forward to walking a bit and watching the show0

Music with a driving beat and no lyrics (podrunner podcasts) so I can just get into the zone and get lost in my head. Also, switching up the run: hills, speed intervals...whatever I can think of that keeps my mind and body challenged.0

Play music the whole time0

Netflix or amazon prime video0

Music and television if there's one in front of you0

The TVs at my gym are up so high that if I try to watch them I lose my balance and nearly fall over. I don't like listening to music as I like to get into a breathing rhythm with my footfalls.... that's when I can get more "in the zone". Last time on the treadmill, I started counting paces per tenth of a km and that helped to pass the time a bit. Nothing beats running outdoors for me - especially in the summer rain... but I definitely don't want to be running in winter rain and wind!!!0

Watching Eli Manning highlights on the sports channel    :laugh:0

stick a pixar/ dreamworks movie on my phone, slow jog and watch it all the way through.
brave burns about 800 calories, the incredibles around 900 etc - usually takes about an hour and a half0 -
Planet Fitness has like 20 tvs so I just park it in front of what I want to watch and go in! I also have my music playing on my MP30

I do 80 minutes on my treadmill 3 times a week. I love watching DVD's. Most of them end up lasting close to that amount of time. It certainly makes the time fly by. :happy:0

I watch my latest shows on AppleTV ..0

I'm with you, I put Netflix on my iPad. I try to pick a TV series - that way the portion I see during my workout is long enough to keep me interested but every other day or so I finish an episode so I feel like I'm accomplishing something! I just finished Sherlock and right now I'm going through Supernatural.0

I hate the treadmill for this exactly reason.
Has anyone said checking out the women? That.0 -
I watch the hotties do their deadlifts? :blushing:
But seriously, I just do 15 minutes once in a while and music / TV does the trick0 -

I'm not gonna lie me too  I guess I'm a creeper! Lol! If I'm walking sometimes I can read my kindle but usually just music or watch TV!0 -
I've been planning to throw some shows on my phone to watch, since the TV in the fitness room in my building is suuuuper quiet.0

I despise the treadmill and the elliptical. I much prefer to run outside and for me, it is possible. That does mean I run in the rain, cold weather, and sometimes freezing rain and snow and I run before daylight a lot. If I'm not running, I much prefer classes like Zumba, Kickboxing, Kettlebells, and Strength Training.0
