This should get interesting. What's the point of this post, other than to stir *kitten* up? If you truly want a debate or thoughts, there are much better ways of phrasing. It's an awfully general statement. Those seeking hypertrophy over strength are not necessarily unhealthy or obsessed, and anything can become unhealthy and obsessive, even powerlifting.

Vanity comes from the term "Vain glory" meaning excessive belief in one's own abilities or attractiveness to others. Therefore Bodybuilding and Powerlifting are both sports of vanity.

*I am a bodybuilder and powerlifter.

Such an obvious troll. Do something like talk about if you should eat back exercise calories or if cleaning counts as exercise. I give this troll post 1/10. Would not recommend.

@OP: Do people look fat when they're sitting down?
  • 6 packs are unnatural.Bodybuilding is not about health or strength .It is about asthetics, getting down to incrediblelow levels of body fat & using dieuretics.

    Bodybuilding leads to unhealthy obsession.

    1. It can do but then so can any form of sport
    It is nonfunctional

    2. But does have functional benefits
and if taken to the extreme can ruin health.

    3. See 1 above
Powerlifting is more akin to real strength and is more functional.

True and I know power lifter mock body builders for having "big, useless muscle".

Before beginning to compete in shows...

It's functional. It helps the guy get the girl, and usually it works.

What about the powerlifters who can barely walk up a flight of steps without getting winded or the ones that struggle to roll themselves out of bed in the morning. Totally functional.

    Define "functional".

What's "functional" about lying on your back and pushing a heavy bar off your chest? Very few have to do anything like that in everyday life.

What's "functional" about standing under a heavier bar, bending your knees and standing back up again? See above statement.

Just because it's a multi-joint movement doesn't necessarily make it "functional".

Not saying bodybuilding is anymore more functional than power lifting, but neither (as they are commonly practiced these days) are what I would call functional when it comes to the movement of the human body.
