Bodybuilding is all about vanity & unhealthy obsession

I'm clueless. What's the difference between bodybuilding and powerlifting?
Body building is the pursuit of muscle size and / or definition where the principle focus is aesthetics.
Power lifting is the pursuit of maximal power over three lifts.
You could argue that power lifting is a sport where looking a certain way is side benefit but body building is not a sport as the focus is not "athletic" in nature as the focus is on looks (and hence why you won't find it in the Olympics)
These arguments are as old as the hills...0 -
This makes more sense...
The fact that you have this makes me like you more.0 -
What's wrong with vanity anyways?
^This. I may be in this to feel better and be healthier...but I DO happen to want to LOOK better! Dang it...I'm vain...0 -
6 packs are unnatural.
They're not really. Having a strong core and low body fat is usually a by product of pursuing a sport to a high degree.
I do think destroying your lower back by doing a million crunches whilst simultaneously ignoring the rest of your core for the pursuit of purely having a six pack a bit odd but then, life would be boring if we were all the same...
I have a 6 pack and I've never done crunches.
Errr, ok? I wasn't addressing anyone specifically but making a general point.
It seems to happen a disproportionate amount is all (usually by people new to bodybuilding it seems.)0 -
Bodybuilding leads to unhealthy obsession. It is nonfunctional and if taken to the extreme can ruin health.Powerlifting is more akin to real strength and is more functional.0

2. Tomorrow I am planning a juice cleanse
3. This weekend I am taking a few cheat days
4. Monday I am doing a fasting cleanse
5. Tuesday I will resume my "diet" by eating "Clean"
6. Wednesday I am only going to consume "good calories"
7. Thursday I am going to cut my calories down 500 per day
8. And finally, Friday I will start a panic thread because I am not "loosing" any weight.

Dear Posters,
I wanted to offer a brief explanation for the locking of this thread.
The forum guidelines include this item:
2. No Hi-Jacking, Trolling, or Flame-baiting
Please stay on-topic in an existing thread, and post new threads in the appropriate forum. Taking a thread off-topic is considered hi-jacking. Please either contribute politely and constructively to a topic, or move on without posting. This includes posts that encourage the drama in a topic to escalate, or posts intended to incite an uproar from the community.
Body Shaming
4. Show Respect to All Groups and Individuals
No derogatory references to sex, gender, age, weight, body-type, disability, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation, or endorsement of violence against any person or group, even if couched in humor, will be permitted. This includes expressing stereotypes about any group or community.
In many cases we are able to edit out the posts that violate this guideline, but unfortunately this particular thread has become too volatile to moderate efficiently.
