Thoughts on pepper spray?

belly holster and a small .380 auto works well too
I use a tactical vest and simply wear a light zip jacket over it, only zip up halfway so I can quickly reach and pull my .380. Never had to use it, and hope I never have to, but hey, if it comes down to me or an attacker (human or animal) going down, here's a hint: it won't be me if I have anything to say about it :happy:0 -

THIS. I carry a Ruger .380. 7 rounds, and I'm good to go. Was particularly thankful for this because I came in to contact with a large water moccasin a couple of weeks ago. On my long runs, I usually see coyotes and deer also, but I'm more concerned about people than animals.0 -
Carrying pepper spray is illegal here but I do have marker spray for cycling to and from work. Its not meant to disable the attacker but it stains clothes and skin so the police can easily identify the culprit. May be something else to consider.
:noway: Really? You can't defend yourself but you can mark your attacker so they can have stained clothes AFTER they rape/kill you?0 -
Personal Safety Alarm with Cord
I'm not promoting this company, but the device in general. Noise is going to be your number one defense above all in an attack situation. Pull the string on this little bas*ard and it lets off an ear-piercing scream. It doesn’t hurt anyone, can't be used against you, can be heard for a mile, can’t be easily deactivated and makes the attacker want to get as far away as possible.
This is the best thing I can suggest for anyone who fears having their self-defense device being taken away and used against them. For people who are comfortable with pepper spray, OC, knife or handgun... this would be a great secondary.
I see the potential for a garrote in there.0 -

I consider it a low calorie condiment so I don't log it.0

You should definitely be careful not to kill the guy trying to rape or murder you because...you know...that's bad.0

Amazed that people run with guns. My mom always told me never to run with scissors.0

If you can't get an escort from an apache with .50cal and FLIR, then have the area carpet bombed first, just to be sure.0

I carry one. You can not prepare for every possible situation out there. I choose to have some sort of defense available to me. So it may help me or may not but I would rather have the option to use it if I can.0

Where do you find this and what is it called? This is similar to a device I once had, and it worked well. Have not found one since.0 -
She is running toward the person she is spraying at??? This just doesnt make sense. Of course the wind can blow it in your face, but it wont come toward you on its own. Plus, mine squirts in a stream, not a fog. I dont think this is legit.0 -
Taurus PT 111 - Glad I have it and hope to never use it unless target shooting.0

I am pretty sure it is an exaggeration, however, I have experienced a similar situation. That is - spraying the spray, then moving foward. It is in a stream but there will be a mist around it. You don't get the full effect but depending on the scenerio, it can still be quite unpleasant. Fortunately, it got him in the face and he suffered much worse than I did (I also think there was a bit of back spray when it hit him, happened so fast, I'm not sure).0 -
I carry when I run or bike where I live for potential attackers or mean dogs. Anything is better than being completely defenseless if you're ever in a dangerous situation.
As for your child, its like anything else (like a gun) you might have in your house...you have to take precautions to keep them from getting ahold of it.
edited to add...if you get some, take it outside and spray it..be sure you know how to aim it and use it if necessary.0 -
I would do self defense classes or even martial arts so that you feel safer when you are out in the world.0

self defense will first and foremost teach you to be VOCAL during potential situations. yelling things like "GET AWAY FROM ME"or "WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME" is usually good enough so you shouldnt have to use pepper spray as a threat or warning.0
