How big is a piece of cake?

Whats with the thousands of cake entries in the database that are measured by "1 slice" with no weights?

Depends on the cake. It's like those 'one fillet' entries for fish or chicken breast... It's a waste of database memory.

I'm sorry, but could you try to be more supportive?

I don't have the answer, but I'm sure there's someone around here who will.

    Any second now.

An American standard cake slice is 1/8th of the cake.
In European slicing that converts to 0.13672 cakes.

Do they say how big of a cake it is? Some say things like 1/16 of an 8x8 pan. Or 1/10 of prepared package.

    "Sensible" is not a measurement.

No, it's a lifestyle change. I'm beginning to doubt your commitment to fitnesspals.

I check the serving size on packages. For something like cake it might say 1/8 of whole. Or it might just say servings per package: 8

Use your best judgment I guess. I had a packet of fish for dinner that said 1 serving per packet (2 filets) and calories 108. The database has an entry at 110 calories - close enough for me.

Slightly larger than a piece of pie.

The only way to know is to make the cake yourself and measure out the portions after you have entered it as a recipe.

Usually most cake mixes I have seen, equate to 1/12th of the cake, which is a very generous piece of cake. I would try to find the type of cake in the data base and it will give you a good idea. Ie: Walmart bakery white cake for example, or if it is homemade, pillsbury funfetti cake. Best of luck and go by an estimate of what you do find if need be!!

2"x2" piece or usually 12 slices per 2 layered cake.

While I don't know the answer, I'm perfectly willing to answer another semi-related question.

The KIND of cake matters. I know this. Because you will see there are separate entries for "birthday cake," for example. And birthday cake definitely does not have the same amount of calories as regular, everyday cake. So don't make the same mistake I did.

3.2 ounces if you're eating cake from Costco. I budget two slices when I eat it. I love cake! :blushing:

Why just a piece? Eat the whole cake then you don't have to guess.

I started buying the single serving packages in the freezer section or deli area and go with that.

Not much help I know, but for me it works. If there is cake or pie in the house...it's gone. (burp)

    So many factors....
Brand, ingredients etc. etc. etc. How long is a piece of string?

This brings up another important question. How big is a piece if it's already AFTER 8PM?
