So I am going to start insanity when I can afford it.
Or I may just try a free workout program.
Anyway, I would also like to eat a bit healthier at the same time... Only problem is I can't eat salad as I vomit whenever I eat it... Same with vegetables.
I mainly eat meat, mash, chips and fish fingers etc.
I've recently been told by the doctor that I am slightly overweight for my height and age and I have a high blood pressure...
I'm 6 ft 5 and weight 18 stone and I am also 18 years old.
Can anyone give me any suggestions on what to eat? Or even a meal plan would help a ton. And if anyone else knows of any good workouts could you please suggest some.

You can lose weight as long as you eat less than you use. Just tell MFP to lose 1lb/week and eat what it tells you to.
*however*, given as you are only 40 lbs over the top of the BMI scale and you have high blood pressure, you probably don't just want to stop there. Look into the DASH diet and specifically look into cutting sodium to see if it helps your blood pressure. This will mean, yes, cutting down on the pre-prepared food like fish fingers, and making your own for things like chips, mash.
Nobody can really give you a meal plan because every meal plan is going to include vegetables, so you'll have to make your own. Since you like mash, you might start acclimatizing yourself to the presence of small quantities of vegetables by making it yourself and mashing in a tiny bit of veggie. For example, mashing five potatoes and one carrot. Over time, you can increase the amount and re-sensitize your taste buds.0 -
I forgot to mention I do like carrots but not a whole lot...
And so mash is alright then?
And All we ever have in the house is pre prepared food really...0 -
There are a lot of vegetables out in the world, and I'm sure they don't all make you vomit. Try some new ones, and try different ways of preparing them. For example, I hate steaming and boiling most vegetables because it turns into tasteless mush, so I'd rather bake or saute my veggies.
The thing is, you're going to have a hard time losing weight and getting healthier if you refuse to eat any veggies. It's certainly possible, but will probably leave you still hungry and missing many micronutrients. Mashed potatoes, chips, and fish fingers are not especially good for you, not to mention high in calories. Vegetables are generally low calorie, often filling, and can be very delicious depending on what it is and how it's prepared.0 -
in our house all there ever is is pre prepared food such as fish fingers...
The healthiest thing I probably eat is tuna sandwiches.I also love boneless chicken, Lamb, Beef etc0 -
It's very hard to have a healthy diet with no veg. Have you looked at why they make you vomit? Are you just gagging at the strong taste of some of them? Or is it an allergic reaction?0
-
I have a hard time believing you're even 18 years old as you claim to be. There are loads of different vegetables... and I would suggest maybe therapy if all salads and vegetables make you vomit.0
-

^ this.
Also, try soups.
You don't need to eat salad to lose weight, you just need to properly track your food and consistently eat at a calorie deficit.
If you have plenty of processed foods at home, it sounds like a good time for you to start learning to cook proper meals for yourself (and your family?).0 -
I've been told by my doctor that I'm allergic to a few things (Cant actually remember which veg this was) But I've tried a ton of veg I also tried lettuce and came out in a rash
I don't mind carrots though and can eat them.
I'm allergic to nuts.
The reason they make me vomit though is just that I hate the taste...
I'm a very fussy eater.
I've been trying to cut down on portion sizes... Since I've always been a pretty big eater lol
And I haven't snacked.
I also cut out fizzy pop altogether and have been drinking water constantly.
I used to do thai boxing and was fine at that point but had to quit due to money issues.
(It was £50 a month)
I'm starting insanity hopefully.
But yeah I live with my mom atm and she always does the food shopping and just buys pre prepared foods such as fish fingers battered cod and chicken.
So I don't really know where to start with the food side of things.0 -
What have I wrote that makes me seem older or younger?
I am certainly 18 years old.0 -
I can cook
Just don't know exactly what to cook.
Trying to find some new things and find out whats healthy really...
Always been on fast food or processed food tbh0 -
So I don't really know where to start with the food side of things.
Start with these 4
1. Rump steak, mashed sweet potato, boiled green beans and corn on the cob
2. Beef bolognaise (with black beans, peppers & mushrooms), wholemeal pasta, top with jalapeno peppers.
3. Grilled chicken in pitta with pesto and rocket.
4. Shepherds pie (make with carrots and peas)
Go heavy with the protein element and light with the carbs. It'll fill you up more.
Think about using protein shakes.0 -
Eating more vegetables, fruit and salad can help you to lose weight. Eating enough vegetables, fruit & salad can also help prevent heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, obesity and certain cancers. The World Health Organisation estimate that 2.7 million lives could be saved each year simply by eating more fruit & veg!

So if you really want to loose weight and be healthy, you might have to be a big boy and eat your vegetables!!0 -
Tracking and limiting your sodium will go a long way towards lowering your blood pressure. And eventually, you will feel better from eating less salt. I was a salt-o-holic when my doctor told my to keep my sodium down. I didn't think I could do it, but it was surprisingly easy.
As for the veggies, when I was your age I didn't like many vegetables, but now I totally love them. The problem was that I didn't like the way my mother prepared them. So I started cooking them or preparing them myself, and now I prefer a huge serving of veggies over a cheeseburger. If I were you, I would go grocery shopping with whomever does it for your household and get a couple of different veggies to try.
Good luck to you!!0 -
Can you manage to eat soups with veggies in them? You can hide them from yourself by blending the soup so it's smooth if you don't like lumps.
Here's a recipe to start you off - http://studentrecipes.com/recipes/soup/easy-vegetable-soup-1/
and another http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/8029/versatile-veg-soup
Use the recipe builder to calculate the calories in your soup. (Go to food, then click on "Recipes" and "enter new recipe", then put in each ingredient you use and how many portions it made for you.)
I love adding a handful of lentils (the split red kind) to vegetable soups (make sure you boil them for at least 10 minutes) as they have a great flavour and add thickness.
Do you like pasta sauce made from tomatoes, onions and garlic?0 -
You do sound young, but let's not get distracted by that.
Carrots are a good starting point. Peas? Sweet corn? Vegetable soup? Cauliflower cheese? Spinach in scrambled egg or omelette? Mushroom sauce with your steak? Tomato juice? Tomato sauce with pasta? Salsa dip?0 -
I can eat carrots lol
I'll try a few more... I didn't know peppers were classed as a vegetable as I can eat them...
I cant eat mushrooms at all0 -
Will try a few of these out. Thanks mate0

Do you have the money to get a nutribullet or other blender? Smoothies are an easy way to get in veggies without it tasting like veggies. Just mix some spinach, carrots or sweet potatoes, and some fruit together with water, yogurt or milk and it tastes really good.
I also agree with another poster about the sodium. High blood pressure is a concern so you'll want to limit your sodium. Try to keep it under 2000 mg a day to start and keep decreasing from there. Try to avoid adding salt to anything you make at home, and if eating out request your food to be prepared without salt. You can add other spices to make up for the lack of flavor.0 -
Unless you have an allergy to veggies then put on your big boy pants and start learning to eat them. Start with things like peas, beans, corn and work from there. Fruit is also good for you. Eat more of that.
I really think we need to start disciplining parents who allow their kids to grow up eating fries and fish sticks!0 -
I dont get why I sound young? lol
I eat peas also.
Peppers.
no spinach or cauliflower
I eat omelettes and scrambled egg0 -
I have something called hyperoxaluria (excess oxalates in the urine) that causes me to have to eat a very LOW quantity of veggies, fruits, nuts, whole grains ... all the healthy stuff. I love them and miss them, but I have a very bad skin reaction to most and develop huge chicken-egg sized kidney stones from them. So I'm still losing with minimal veggies, but I make sure I get a great fiber supplement and take a multivitamin/supplements to address any imbalances and have my blood monitored medically. You can do it, but you have to make allowances. I also eat protein bars that are "fortified" with multiple vitamins and minerals when I need "fast food" and that helps keep the balance.
Good luck! You CAN lose weight healthfully that way ... but it's not the best route if you can eat the fresh veggies, fruits, grains, nuts ... try smoothies to get yourself started and putting shredded baby spinach in your eggs and such. You won't notice and you start building up! Cook onions and peppers well to caramelize and sweeten them, and use fresh herbs to enhance taste.0 -
I love the sauce but hate the pasta lol0

Okay... forgive me for what I said before.
I like to start each meal with protein in mind.
Eggs, egg whites, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, chicken, beef, pork, fish... then add fruits, vegetables and any grains/starches. I eat higher carb in the morning but try to get about 30g protein 4x/day. Here are some meal ideas:
1 egg plus extra egg whites (from a carton) made into an omelette with ham, mushrooms, spinach chopped into little pieces with HP steak sauce on top
Toast/bun with a touch of jam and cottage cheese on top
Canned tuna mixed with mayonnaise on crackers
Baked chicken breast with any sides you like
Steak with mushrooms and onions and any other sides you like
Fruits with low-fat cheese for snacks
Cut up a still-partially-frozen chicken breast and pan-fry thin slices with mushrooms and broccoli and add Teriyaki Sauce
Or fry the sliced chicken breast and throw in Italian seasoning and cut up steamed asparagus or green beans and put shredded cheddar cheese on top.
My best advice is to combine high protein and high fiber at every opportunity. Also, avoid non-fat/fat-free/sugar-free/lite/no-sugar-added/non-foods. Real fat will keep you satisfied longer; especially when combined with protein and fiber. This will also help to keep blood sugar stable if you're having any trouble with insulin sensitivity.
Replace sugary fizzy drinks with club soda with a splash of lime cordial over ice. Yum!0 -
will try this thank you0
-
Definitely don't eat stuff that gives you rashes
Here's some suggestions for a 42-year old trying to start eating veggies.
http://www.thekitchn.com/how-do-you-get-a-fussy-adult-t-595830 -
Do you think your mom would change what she bought if you asked? Maybe she is only buying that stuff because she thinks you won't eat anything else.
I am also a super picky eater. People don't believe me that certain tastes and textures will make me literally vomit (unfortunately, usually the healthy ones, lol). I totally get how frustrating it is.
The idea of putting small amounts of veg in your mash is a very good one; you could try squashes or turnips in small amounts, as well as carrots.
For me, I figured out exactly what I didn't like about most veggies and then started looking for ones without those characteristics. I hate the earthy, bitter taste of dark greens, but baby spinach is much milder so I use it a lot. I also hate the mushy texture of eggplant, zucchini and mushrooms, so I try to stick to crunchy, watery vegetables like carrots and celery and sometimes cauliflower (but sometimes it is too cabbagey-tasting for me). I don't like the texture of cooked tomatoes, but I can eat tomato sauce or have raw cherry tomatoes.
I bet if you asked your mom to bring home some veggies for you to try, She would be thrilled.0 -
the more things you try, the older you get the less fussy you'll be.
my sister was awful, we'd all eat proper food and she'd always eat omelette. there was a point where all she liked was mcdonalds and omelettes. thankfully now she eats pretty much everything, with the exceptions of a few veggies and black pudding/haggis.The idea of putting small amounts of veg in your mash is a very good one; you could try squashes or turnips in small amounts, as well as carrots.0 -
have you tried grating veggies and then mixing them into your foods? grating them is a great way to add veggies to your food and you usually won't even notice. you can finely grate a whole carrot, a zucchini, some eggplant, a pepper, a finely diced onion and extra tomato and add them, for example, into your pasta sauce (also add them into the meatball mixture, for example), and by the time it's good an cooked you will hardly even know they're there.0
-
I seem to eat a lot of curries too lol
Curry is probably my favorite food.
My mom mainly buys pre prepared food because its cheaper but I have asked a few times lol
I'll probably go out shopping myself one of these days pick up a few things and see if I like any of it.
I am up at 5:30 every day pretty much but have to leave the house at quarter past 6.
This is the time where I'm going to start exercising.
I only drink tap water now tbh I just put it into a bottle and throw it in the fridge every day... Currently have about 20 bottles in the fridge full of water.
I'm going to try sweet potatoes as I've been told its a lot more healthy than white potatoes.0 -
I haven't tried grating it.
Will try this.
Lately I've been avoiding all snacks and I have been eating chicken curry all freshly prepared and cooked with fresh ingredients.
I've been having breakfast everyday but since I've been out at about 6 every day I've been getting a tuna baguette from the local baguette shop0
