IS COFFEE GOOD FOR YOU?

Hey!

About 70 days ago I gave up alcohol, cigars, red meat and COFFEE! At first I was fine with out COFFEE(!!), but the past week or so I have been missing it! I usually smoked when I drank it but I have NO DSEIRE to start smoking again.

What is your take on COFFEE?? Should I go back to drinking it or stay clear?

  • Coffee is good if you do not take too much. It has antioxidants and research says it helps preventing Alzheimer. Like most food, moderation is the key

The recommended intake is 2 cups per day. Just don't take it at night, I guess. Haha

Very low in cals, pretty much none if you drink it black. And can even gives your metabolism a slight boost, and increases energy for your workout if you have some prior to your workout.

Coffee is actually one of those things that are very good for you. However, you can develop a dependency on it. There's nothing wrong with drinking some, but if you start to need an XL cup in the morning and more throughout the day, you've got a problem.

I don't know if coffee is good for you but since I have gave up just about everything else.....if I don't get it occasionally...ok frequently....I can't promise something bad won't happen. Just sayin....

Agreed with above. Remember lighter roasted coffee is better than darker roasted as well.

coffee can be good for u as long as u dont drink to much; Anti-Aging Antioxidants

On a per-serving basis, coffee, which is loaded with antioxidants, outscores these other health and beauty boosters. One recent study found that people who drank two cups of joe a day had a 14% lower risk of stroke than those who skipped the sips.

    This all day!!!
  • I like coffee, I wouldn't want to cut it out... that would make me sad! If you're not drinking excess amounts of it and have no medical reason why you should avoid it then by all means have a cup!

    Everything in moderation.

Actually, my reason for coffee is going to be different than everyone else's. I've got flat (collapsed) feet and I've started having arthritis related pain a few years ago. Caffeine helps me deal with thepain because it has mild anti-inflammatory properties.

My foot pain isn't that bad... but if you give me the choice between coffee or Tylenol, I'd rather take coffee. All I need is one cup a day in the morning on weekdays. I cut it back on the weekends so I don't get too dependent on it and up the dosage.

I drink it every day at work, but only have a cup in the morning at home on the weekends. Love my coffee.

I have flat feet also! I have noticed since I stopped drinking that they have hurt even more. I thought it was because it was colder!
  • Are we talking about homebrewed coffee or coffee from Starbucks or Seattle's best[not the ground ones, but the ones they serve). The former is good especially if it is black (no milk/creamer and sugar) but the latter pretends to be healthy (it's loaded with sugar -- I used to love those but now that I got accustomed to black coffee, I find them too sweet)

I normally drank one large cup (about 20 ounces a Venti size at Starbucks). I would either put light creamer or drink it black.

I consume a lot of black coffee first thing in the morning, but none at all the rest of the day (and no soda either).

I think under 2 cups is actually good for you. I have low blood pressure and my doctor actually told me to "have a cup of coffee." Do I stick to the 2 cups thing? Not really. But I think in moderation, esp black it is not bad for you.

If you want to, and can do it without the smoking, then go for it. If it is going to bring back the cravings for a smoke, then you might be best to stay away for a while longer until that habit is well and truly broken.

What is your take on COFFEE?? Should I go back to drinking it or stay clear?

Question: what made you decide to eliminate these four things? If it was because you suspected you might have some addictions to them, I would advise to consider continuing to abstain with the coffee, because it could create a "gateway" experience and believe me...you don't want that.

As many have said here, there's nothing wrong with coffee itself. Lots of studies have shown it to actually have some healthy properties for those who drink it daily.

But what I'd be concerned about - it how YOU feel when you drink it. In other words....does the caffeine make you feel like eating or drinking things you've already decided you don't want to? Caffeine affects people differently - for example, when I drink it I start to physically shake and I get quite irritable - it's NOT a pleasant experience. Some people depend on it to "feel good" or "feel awake". That's not so healthy and that could create a gateway BEHAVIOR (i.e., dependence on a substance to feel good) that takes you further into starting in on foods/drinks/behaviors you were once trying to give up.

You know yourself best. Do you honestly think you can handle the coffee and not have it affect you in other ways? If so, maybe give it a try one day - and if you find yourself getting into that mindset of "I GOTTA HAVE THIS or I won't be happy", then you might want to back off again.

    Just a thought.

Agreed with above. Remember lighter roasted coffee is better than darker roasted as well.

what do you mean lighter roast is better? Prefferance in flavor? Or do you mean something else?
