Diets just set you up to fail. LIFESTYLE CHANGES don't fail. Plus, a religious diet just sounds twice as silly.

I had no idea what this was, so I googled. Apparently it is a way for Pastor Rick Warren to make money. Dr. Oz helped to design plan, so that's a huge red flag right there that it's bunk.

The Daniel fast is a plant based diet. Look in the book of Daniel. He didn't eat the kings meat (standard American diet) but instead ate pulse and beans and looked better than the kings men after. It's what science is telling us. Eat plant based non processed healthy food. Rick Warren just repackaged it for money. Google Daniel fast instead of Daniel plan.

What science would be telling me that?

Not about to get into a pissing match about it. Too many people on here do that. I'm sure there is another post where you can find the info if you want. To each his/ her own. If you want to know he science you can of it yourself and make your own decision. I'm convinced and it's working for me.

Science doesn't tell us that at all. Also, "looked better" is very much a matter of preference.

I have a friend who did it and it worked for her. I do think the combining the spiritual reflection and the effort to eat well chosen food was a good approach. I find that, when I don't care for myself emotionally and spiritually, I get stressed and overeat. I am clear that I need sensible guidelines about what to eat, accountability for what I eat and peace of mind to succeed at losing weight and gaining health.

Don't pay attention to those who dismiss it out of hand with no experience. Do YOU.

I love the idea of a God-based diet. You have to subsist on prayers and sacrifices and the terror and/or adoration of your flock.

Science is telling us that in Daniel's time, people ate a "standard American diet" but Daniel looked better because he ate beans?

    You actually believe this, right?

I was about to ask virtually the same question.

Then why was Jesus passing out loaves of bread and fish? Turning water into wine?

That was before the crucifixion. Doesn't count.

This a religious fast not a diet plan. Though it could be I don't think most people could sustain it.

Ok, so no meat eating just sacrificing animals to an angry god while you eat beans?

But Hansel and Gretel did have good morals....Don't leave your kids in the woods, don't go into candy houses, and don't let old crones fatten you up so they can eat you.

I'm a Christian and I think it is a load too, but it's all about how you feel. If it is working for you, that is awesome and I hope you are blessed with great results! I prefer to take a more balanced approach, and I love meat and need quite a bit of protein to maintain muscle. I don't feel like eating a pound of quinoa and amaranth every day lol! I believe (and this is my own opinion, not fact) that just eating more veggies and some fruit will get you the results you are looking for. No need to eat specific things on specific days, just eat nutrient-dense foods and get your body what it needs... if you meet your micro needs and need some more macros, eat whatever you want!

They already sell chocolate covered grasshoppers in some parts of the world....and lollipops with scorpions in them.

Well if he gets fat and an old crone eats him, he only has himself to blame.

The issue I have with this plan has nothing to do with religion. It has to do with restricting what it is you eat. Any time I've ever been told "DO NOT EAT THIS," I instantly want to run right out and eat it. It doesn't even matter if it was something I despised, being told not to eat makes it leap to the top of the "I must have it" list.

If you want to make a lasting change, you have to make whatever you are doing sustainable. Something you can do day after day after day after day. Which for me, means nothing on the "do not eat list." I know that there are some more nutrient dense foods that I eat more than I used to, because they are nutrient dense and all that, but if I feel like having french fries, or a slab o' steak, I do.

I wish there were magic fairy dust that you could wave over yourself to lose weight but there isn't. If I could eliminate one food and instantly lose all that I wanted to lose, I'd consider even that. But what I've learned from reading the posts of people much smarter than me, is that Tinker Bell didn't leave me any glitter and that if I want to lose weight, I'm going to have to eat less and move more. It's hard, but simple.

And I don't want to do the John the Baptist diet either.

Ya know. If someone wants to do Biblical fasts in order to increase their spirituality with God, then I'm all for it.

But let's not try to pass it off as a legitimate weight loss diet. Especially one that is only temporary.

I never heard of this, I had to look it up.

As far as diet fads go, it seems pretty reasonable. It doesn't appear to be just a diet, but a lifestyle plan with spirituality mixed in. I just skimmed it, but the diet portion seems to be like the paleo diet sans meat? As long as your get in your recommended protein, I don't see an issue with this "program".

Religion is a huge motivating factor for many people, I don't see the problem with applying it to fitness. Actually, I wish more churches and religious segments would do the same. I've seen far more dangerous and ridiculous faith based fitness programs out there. Scientology anyone?!?!
