i'm sorry, I don't take diet advice from fairy tale books

But Hansel and Gretel did have good morals....Don't leave your kids in the woods, don't go into candy houses, and don't let old crones fatten you up so they can eat you.

    well played

Ya know. If someone wants to do Biblical fasts in order to increase their spirituality with God, then I'm all for it.

But let's not try to pass it off as a legitimate weight loss diet. Especially one that is only temporary.
^^ also in Matthew 6:16-18, loosely translated by me (lol), it says: "Fasting is done unto God, not unto men". That means, if you are going to fast, just do it for God. Don't go around telling everybody that you are doing it and draw attention to yourself. Also, don't sell your version of it for profit... whoops!

This a religious fast not a diet plan. Though it could be I don't think most people could sustain it.

I agree its more of a fast, and yes I have done this one for Lent many years ago.
It's important to get enough calories when doing this. I would eat a HUGE breakfast that was half steamed veggies. I just remember omlettes and veggies were my staples. I cut out meat, dairy and bread if I recall correctly. It was plain fare but I do recall feeling better....years later I discovered that I am gluten intolerant so that was probably part of it.

Edit: oops. No I havent read the book or the diet plan. I just did a Daniel fast.

Anything marketed for weightless for cash is pretty much a joke! You have all the tools you need in your own home. Here is the only plan you will ever need, it's called the eat less move more plan. It doesn't cost a thing and it is as effective as the effort you put into it. That is why nobody needs to read it or hear of it to know it is a crock of doo doo

By and large, the Daniel Plan is a whole foods diet, not dissimilar from countless others. He (whoever he is) advocates eating whole foods, lean proteins, high fiber carbs and limiting heavily processed, packaged convenience foods and sugar. It also advocates to get some exercise and aim for 90/10.
Sounds reasonable enough on the surface. IF You can sustain that. (I can).
If you also want the spiritual peace piece, then who am I I to disagree.

I've used it as a religious fast, but I have not and would not use it for weight loss. For good long term weight loss you need to stick to a balanced diet for life … this isn't sustainable.

If you're talking about The Daniel Plan by Rick Warren, a lot of people complained that there's not enough REAL diet info in it. But if you're looking for some kind of Faith based weight loss program, then I'd recommend finding a First Place 4 Health group. They cover all the bases, including diet specifics. You can do them in a local group, online group, or alone (although the support really helps w/success).

I'm Facebook friends with a lady who is very, very born again; I attended her church and we socialized for a while. She's been fretting over her weight for years. She and I were pretty close to the same size, I think. Early this year, she was posting about this wonderful Biblical diet plan - starting a group, sharing videos and study materials, and so on. I'm not much of a joiner; I'd rather go and quietly do my thing; I didn't get involved.

Here we are at the end of the year. I did my thing, counted my calories, moved around, lost ~40 pounds and have kept it off for half a year and continued to drop another pant size... My life is really very different from what it was a year ago. She is... the same as she was back then.

I don't know how long she stuck with it or how many other diets she tried this year; I just know what worked for me was the basic math. The Daniel Plan could work just fine for people who stick with it - but for plain old earthly results, I think hard work and basic math will usually take you further than prayer without corresponding effort.

I didn't really see any religious bashing. I saw people bashing ridiculous ideas falsely attributed to religion.

They bash and mock pretty much everything that isn't what they are doing. You get used to it.

I guess you missed the myriad of mocking comments attributed to god, fairy tales, and religion on the first page then. But they, it's a free country!

There was one guy who called the Bible a fairy tale. Not sure that really counts as "bashing."

Not worth pointing each one out, because it's a losing battle. I just think it's kinda disrespectful. Not trying to be the post police...carry on! :)

Overly-sensitive much? I was only commenting on the fact that Fairy Tales(said nothing of religion) do teach you morals in some way. We're all just having a laugh. Relax.

Well if he gets fat and an old crone eats him, he only has himself to blame.

LOL @ fishes, loaves, wine. I have NOT read the book....and as such won't blast Rick Warren. I am a bit surprised he would do a book like this ( and I do like some of his other books). But again---haven't read it so cannot judge.

I do the Daniel Fast every year in January....as part of praying and fasting to seek God. To me it is NOT a diet, but a means by which to pray and draw closer to God through the sacrifice of certain foods.

I fast: simple carbs ( bread, pasta, chips, crackers, etc.). Sugar/sweets. Alcohol. I don't fast meats as most do. I need the protein....and to me bread and pasta are a bigger sacrifice.

As far as Daniel in the bible? He forsook meat and the rich foods in exchange for vegetables...he believed that the foods the King ate were unclean (defiled). He wanted to honor God by not eating defiled foods.

IMHO.... Don't do it to lose weight....as many PP's have stated...there are better programs out there for that.

I used to attend a church that participated in this fast at the beginning of the year each year. It is a nice way to cleanse your body from the holiday foods as well as to focus your attention on God and his plan for your life for the year. I think it is an awesome tool and a great form of worship!
