Fat is hard. Fit is hard. Pick your hard.

Some people want it to happen. Some people wish it would happen. Others make it happen.

Pain is weakness leaving the body. If it doesn't hurt, you're doing it wrong.

    "Just for today"

    I will log my food
    I will exercise

Focusing on one day at a time feels less overwhelming.

    a few of my favorites:

the only difference between try and triumph is a little umph!

    nothing changes if nothing changes.

if you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got.

    wake up. kick *kitten*. repeat.

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it [Hebrews 12:11]

It's not about being the best, it's about being better than you were yesterday.
    and
The only bad workout is the one that didn't happen.
    and
I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday

I have these on my wall by my desk.........

As long as I am moving, I am lapping everyone on the couch.

    This is mine too.

When I started out in 2008 at 307 lb I really had no idea what I was doing, especially re: nutrition/diet. But I bought some athletic wear & new sneakers and set off walking every night. I felt "lame" compared to all of my peers doing 5K races and stuff like that but this quote (which I first saw on the facebook page of a runner friend) felt relevant. I struggle with being competitive and a perfectionist but this reminds me that ANYTHING is better than nothing!

My nightly walks started getting longer and longer and eventually I did lose 45 lb from them (before discovering MFP) so it was WELL worth it.

Wow so you lost 108lb! Congratulations! I feel silly walking too but I know it's more than what I normally do: nothing.

    "LITANY AGAINST FEAR

    I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
    Only I will remain."

    -Dune, Frank Herbert

    Invictus
    by William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
    For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
    Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
