Do you care where your weight lose is coming from.

I'm much more concerned about knowing where babies come from.
This happens.0 -
I can say most definitely I care about where my weight loss comes from.
At first my weight loss happened quickly. At my heaviest I was probably over 430 lbs.I made half hearted efforts over the next 5 years, losing, gaining, losing. It wasn't until I was around 380 that I did this in earnest.
Over the past 2 years I've read a lot about fads, gimmicks, this supplement or that. There is no substitute for the basics though. Eat clean, balanced nutrition. Quality in, quality out via exercise. There are weeks the scale doesn't budge a bit (frustratingly too lol) but then my pants are looser, I can do a few more push ups or run a bit further. Non scale victories.
I'm no longer on a diet. A diet is some temporary change where I deny myself things I want. I've changed my lifestyle and enjoying life better than ever.0 -
So far everyone who has posted in this thread has seemed to understand the concept for the most part. Maybe the key is doing some searching in the forums and doing some research rather than starting a thread that you can pawn off on curiousity, eventhough, I am guessing it has more with wanting to be able to say "I told ya so"? I don't know, just guessing.0

There are plenty of us who have been here a long time and try to make people understand that this process is about fat loss, not weight loss.
That's why we throw a fit when people say they do an hour of cardio every day and only eat 500-1000 calories or take a bunch of diet pills thinking they are doing a good thing. Then they call us bullies.

My first 30lbs I did the old fashioned way...eating at a deficet(I wasn't counting calories mind you just an eating plan). I didn't stop to think about anything else other than losing weight.
Then I started thinking about exercise and joined MFP and started actually counting calories and exercising.
Then I got reading about BF% (which I knew about but had forgotten) and maintaining muscle etc and saw a thread about women lifting..
The light came on I remembered how much I loved lifting.
I changed what I was doing and started caring about the loss of muscle and since Sept 9th 2013 I have been preserving my muscle mass, eating at a deficet, watching my macros and exercising to build strength and recently added in HIIT for cardio (not a big fan but eh)
So Yes I do care about where the weight loss is coming from...I don't want to lose muscle mass...
But that being said 85% of the new comers here don't care and don't care to learn...they prefer to lose weight and the scale show lower and it doesn't matter how much they are told that they are losing muscle they either don't care or don't believe.
It is a rare thing esp for a woman to get to that point where she is like "AMG I don't care about the scale I want to look like X". Even some men...0 -

What's your point? If you want to be helpful you could go into the threads you aren't mentioning and remind them that they don't want to lose weight, they want to lose fat. You could also create another thread reminding people that they need to lose fat, not weight. Many of us do this pretty often. Not sure what your point is with this one because you only seem to be calling out those who understand.

The advice is all over the board. People aren't just saying eat less than you burn. They're also saying, get enough protein and fat, and exercise your muscles to minimize lean body mass loss while losing.
You've got your big tick but on the threads I've been following not many people (other member) are sharing that information.
And to be fair there have been a lot of threads in the last month headed "a calorie is not a calorie" or "its not just calories in vs calories out" and they just become "what is a calorie" slug fests
Let's drop the calorie is a calorie debate now.
There is no debate. There's science and then there are the special snowflakes who think they know better. That's not a debate. That's entertainment.
If there's no debate then were are saying the same thing. Therefore how can the special snowflakes know more than the standard snowflakes? ????
You seem to be going on about something. Still not sure if there's a point, other than complaining because every post doesn't go into minute detail. At some point, readers need to put in at least a little effort to put 2 and 2 together and become successful. Honestly, there's just so much other people can do . . .0 -

I have been, I just got bewildered from the poor advice people were getting. And yes from some of the people who have posted on this thread.
Those are issues that should be addressed in the threads or by PM. Usually quoting them and asking them what they mean or offering a better point of view is better than making a generic post. This reminds me of the mean people threads. I want to help people and if I'm way off on something I'd rather someone point it out in that thread or send me a PM so I can clarify.
ETA: Don't forget there is also more than one way to lose fat. Just because we may not agree on a method doesn't mean the advice is wrong. I get people who tell me all the time that you have to do cardio to get abs and I don't do cardio, but I have abs.0 -
Sorry what are stickies?
Sweet! ????0 -
When I first started trying to lose weight last year I didn't care WHERE the weight came off, so long as I got skinny. I read through forums and jumped around a lot of ideas then decided I didn't care what everyone said, I was just going to do the "eat low calorie and do lots of cardio get to my goal weight then worry about toning" method. I lost 40+ pounds, which is cool...but then stalled out, and got SO burned out on cardio.
I've been stuck at the same weight since I had oral surgery in Nov...even though I started doing cardio again. Two weeks ago I decided to switch things up yet again. Right now I'm doing NO cardio, but doing resistance training (with a suspension trainer at home), and switched to eating TDEE -20% (if my math is correct anyway). I can tell you for certain right now that though the scale hasn't budged, I've lost almost 1.5" off my waist. Fine by me! I know to let my body adjust, and I'll take stock again after a couple months.
After 9 months I think I'm slowly figuring things out. Hopefully I can lose these last 50 pounds without losing much muscle now!
Edited for typo and misspelling.0 -

The same reason people post lose/loose threads. They need to show the world they're superior.
Good job, OP. :flowerforyou:0 -
It's a curiosity, I've been following threads for bout a week and all I'm hearing people advise is eat less calories than you burn (with no other info or advise to go with it).
Seriously? You must have been reading the wrong threads. This site is FULL of people giving lots of advice on losing slowly, not eating below your BMR, lifting heavy, getting enough protein, don't be skinny fat, etc.
Perhaps you need to read a few more threads. And not just the ones written by 18 yr old girls looking for thigh gaps.0 -

Our body has this own calorie burns in a day without exercise. Now for example you are living a sedentary lifestyle and you've been eating more than your calorie burn in a day then you will gain weight. That is where they say the word 'eat less calories than you burn.'0

Sorry this might be a bit of a contentious issue.
But does everyone understand where their losing their weight from.
Do you care?
My clothes never are perportionate pants from thighs down are baggy then stomachs hips are tight. This makes sense to me now why I wear hip Huggers and then everything muffin tops.0 -

It's as if he just "got it" and now feels it necessary to share it with the world . . . or he doesn't quite "get it" yet. The jury is still out . . .0 -
