Pizza: want but ought not to have!

My apologies if someone already suggested this, as I didn't read all the posts.
If you haven't tried already, use a large portabella mushroom for the "crust", fill with pizza sauce and any other desired toppings. Turkey pepperoni is good! Throw it in the oven for 20-25 minutes, and it is amazing and tastes just like pizza to me!!0 -

I'm a firm believer in everything in moderation, so, have some pizza!
I'm going out to an Italian next weekend with some workmates and I plan on having a pizza then which is why I've been holding back on buying/ordering any just now. I'm REALLY looking forward to my pizza0 -
Didnt read the responses but I make lots of English Muffin pizzas (English muffin, sauce, cheese, topping). I love them!0

I hit up my favorite pizza joint, Village Pizza in Corrales (and now a new location in the valley on Rio Grande Blvd) every couple of weeks or so. No biggie; it can be incorporated into an other wise balanced and nutritious diet (noun).
I would also add to my previous post that my wife and I used to go there and split a large...maybe...possibly...on a bad night we'd come home with a couple of slices to have as snacks the next day or something. These days, we order a small which I can consume about half of no problem, but she's pretty much done after a couple of slices...so we pretty much regularly have two slices of a small coming home with us now vs two slices of a large...it's a huge difference.
By the by, a stop by the Village Pizza is one of my favorite things to do after a nice 2.5 - 3 hour ride on a Sunday...little pizza, little beer...life be good. Make it work...have the pizza.0 -

Anyway, to make this post productive to the overall discussion, I LOVE Home Run Inn frozen pizzas. Since starting with MFP, I've just swapped out the Classic/Ultra Thick crust for Ultra Thin Crust. I just top it with PLENTY of spinach & voila! My pizza craving has been satiated without breaking the caloric bank!
If I REALLY have a craving for deep dish (which doesn't happen as much as it used to), I plan for it. I make sure to pack it with veggies & stick to ONE slice.0 -
When it is just me and I can't justify ordering out for delivery and am too lazy to make my own from scratch, those Kashi pizzas actually taste pretty good.
I like the Mediterranean one because it has feta and red bell pepper on it. The whole pizza is 870 calories, and I usually eat either half when I split it with someone or the whole thing. It only has 15 grams protein per serving (1/3 pizza), so I can't do it all the time and hit my protein goal, but a 1/3 pizza for 290 calories is an excellent side dish to a higher protein meal.
I just think they taste good as frozen pizzas go. They actually get crispy.0 -

Love it... I can't stop at 4 though... A red mist descends and before I know it I've had the whole thing.
So bring a friend who's not trying to lose weight--preferably a burly guy who skipped breakfast today. Split the pizza, but make sure your friend gets more. Problem solved. :happy:0 -

English muffins are an americanization of crumpets. French fries are from Belgium, evidently. But yes, they do have them in France. If you order your sandwich American style, they put them IN the sandwich!0 -

Now I really want pizza.... and there's a pizza place across the road (literally lol), but at the moment I won't have it, only because I couldn't be bothered spending the money :laugh:
I love pizza and beer. I'm thinking I'll work it into the menu next week :drinker: But unfortunately mine needs to be gluten-free and dairy-free (no cheese!) :sad: but hey, more room for toppings :bigsmile:0 -
english muffin pizza... put sauce and cheese on the halves of an english muffin and cook it in the oven/microwave!0

I am allergic to wheat (anaphylactic allergic) so I can not eat pizza from a resturant. I have found making my own can be just as satisfying and I can control what I put on it. It tastes just as good, if not better than ordering out since it is made with all natural ingredients.0

Almost every week I have mad pizza craving, usually on a Friday after a long week at work. And unlike some of the amazingly strong-willed people here, I can't just have a couple of slices or half a pizza! Seriously you guys are superhuman
My absolute favourite is Dr Oetker Ristorante Pollo. It's actually really tasty (I think it's better than any other frozen pizza, even the really high calorie ones). It's a decent size and only about 750 calories for the whole thing, which is easy to fit into my daily allowance, while only being a little bit sensible for the rest of the day!
I dump a ton of mushrooms on it to make it even more filling, yum.0 -

I have never been a pizza girl to be honest - But if I did want one and I was at home.
I would make my own yummy healthy one!
I would have a thin base, with lots of chicken pieces all over it, black olives, sweet corn etc... Then I would crack an egg on the top too : )
Finished off with a lovely side salad...........See nothing wrong with that???
You could even cut the middle out and put the salad in there like they do in the restaurants!!0 -
Just have it. Veg it up. Try to go easy on the meats....sausage and pepperoni, while VERY YUMMY can cost you on the food journal....but sometimes you just have to go for the gold and get it all!!0

thin crust vegie pizza one to two slices paired with a salad and hardly any dressing is one of my meals I eat. its all about what you put on the pizza or how many carbs the crust has or how much cheese it has that adds up the caloires. you could get you a ww meal pizza if you don't trust yourself on making a good choice or portion control or make your own out of a tortilla shell.0

Get one of those thin pocket pitas and spread pizza sauce on top and throw a bit of cheese on (1/4 c mozzarella is like 90 calories) and pile on healthy toppings and perhaps a small serving of bacon or pepperoni or sausage if you've got the calories. Bake at 300-350 F for 5-10 minutes. Tastes just like thin crust, I promise.0

I usually save most of my calories for supper anyway so I can easily fit in 3 or 4 (sometimes 5!) pieces of pizza depending on what's on it. A salad and one piece of pizza for me doesn't count as splurging on pizza, lol.0

Cauliflower pizza with a homemade tomato base, spinach, low fat cheese and meat (I go for beef or chicken) is delicious! Still not as good as regular greasy pizza but helps reduce the craving!0

How about making one with an alternative crust? I´ve found some decent quinoa crust recipes that can be made in advance. Or, you can use flatbread, a tortilla, sandwich thins, pita bread, whatever. Be sensible about the toppings, and you´ve killed your craving!
As far as carbs go, I have eaten pasta dishes throught my weight-loss journey, and I´ve been able to lose nearly 100 pounds now. I just mix in a lot of veggies and a lean protein, so it looks like I´m eating a ton!

We do have English muffins. They're called "muffins" over here, as the English bit is redundant. I'll concede that an American had his hands in the modern muffin, but it's still basically the old English recipe. But they're nothing like crumpets, which are more of a griddled batter, rather than a soft bread cake.
Well, either all that or I was hallucinating the bread product that held my fried egg and black pudding this morning! :laugh:0 -

There's a local place down the street from me and we get pizza and wings at least every 2 weeks or so. I try to time it on days I did a long run and budget, but sometimes that doesn't happen and I just eat a little less of it. In the nice weather the family and I will walk there to make it a little better.
Tonight might be pizza night now...0
