People on here who think blunt critiques are personal attacks should have to try submitting a research paper to a journal for publication. Having something that you've spent months or even years of your life sweating over ripped to shreds and thrown back in your face and told to start over is harsh, the stuff said on here is nothing.

Another poster in the linked thread mentioned being interested in a demographic break down of these posts based on location, I'd be curious to see how they correlate to profession.....

I totally feel what youre saying, but...

When people on here use that word "hate" or "haters", its referred to as a slang word meaning that people stick their two cents in where its not wanted and /or they give negative feedback where it is warranted. And typically those saying they have "haters" really need to take a step back and realize this is a public forum and to not be so sentive to the antics/ opinions of strangers, especially if they post something that is narcissistic and/or innapropriate.

Some people are naturally negative. Let them be that way! They obviously are just unhappy with themselves and wanna put thier bad juju on others.
Dont sweat the "haters!" LOL

  • I think people just need to toughen up and stop being victims - dont post your S*** on social websites if you aren't ready for some "haters."

Scientists especially have propensity for not playing well with others....

And I say that as a proud antisocial scientist.

I'll hold my hands up and admit that I have no clue about nutrition and weight loss and I need some god damn tough love! Bring it on!

this is amongst the more dysfunctional forums i've participated in.

pointless threads like this make it much better!
Then you haven't participated in many forums.

This is the absolute nicest one I've ever seen.

THIS. PARTICULARLY for a coed forum. Holy balls, if the people claiming meanness tripped into the men's area of bodybuilding dot com, their heads would explode.
Here's the truth. People get behind a keyboard, there's a degree of anonymity, and their face-to-face filters get lowered or removed. I've patiently listened to and explained sustainable, healthy weight loss methods to one of my friends at LEAST 10 times when he asked, and he perpetuated in periodic starvation and excess cardio in the belief he would magically Make It Work This Time.
Seeing the same kind of person online can be intensely frustrating, and I assume most people who see it, combined with the lowered filter, "virtually" snap rather than be patient as they might be in person.

    It's the internet. Brace yoself.

Haven't been into BB.com's forums... but I have been on Babycenter's birth boards... and OMG! There is some real nastiness there... You have hundreds of hormonal pregnant women all judging everything about one another (even though they have never met in person) from something as inane to what you plan to name your kid(s) to vaccines... and everything in between... now THERE my friends is real "hate"... and that's not even to mention political forums.

I also heard, from another "omgosh you are all MEAN!" thread here, that the bridal forums are just as nasty as the pregnancy/new mommy boards....

    Not even a little surprised.

It was funny I think yesterday someone compared this forum to the Weight Watchers forums claiming WW forums were nicer.

NO. So much no. That place is a den of vipers.

No way in hell. The only reason I'm even married is because the hubby suggested we go to the courthouse for our 10 year anniversary, this was one week before said anniversary. I bought a dress at Sears and made a bouquet from Hobby Lobby.

That show Bridezillas was on for a reason......

I had two weddings to the same dude twice (one original, one 20 year vow renewal) and the total for both was $5,000. There's so much more reason to spend money on the marriage than the wedding but those chicks that hang out on the Knot don't get that.

Do I ever. I may have cried more after the comments on the 18th draft, though. I knew they were just doing their job and it was a better piece of work for their efforts. But when they started critiquing things I put in on their suggestion I had to wonder how much was hazing, mood swings, or true forgetfulness. And people wonder why "When will you be DONE already?" inspires the look of death...

The ONLY reason I would like to do more than elope is that I really like my family and it's a good excuse to get them all together. But I want to do it as simply and cheaply as possible.

So true. And I was on a hard deadline because my job paid for my graduate degree.
