    About $45-$65 depending on whether I just get a cut or more than just a cut. I tip very well on top of that because the hairstylist is someone I've known for many years.

    $95 for cut and 1 highlight and 1 lowlight. Add tip $110.

    I use to spend $40 but I bought a product called "creaclip" and now I basically cut my own hair for free lol xxxxxxxxx

    everyone who said they did their own cut for free did not take into account the opportunity cost of that haircut - the missed earnings due to being overlooked for promotion or being rejected by a trust fund baby girl/guy.....no free haircut in this world, my mama told me.

    I was just thinking about this...if I had my hair cut for $50 every 2 months that is $600 in a year. That is about what I pay in car insurance for two vehicles for a YEAR. It is more than one month of rent. It is 4 months of electric bills. Or 3 months of groceries.

    No wonder I am such a cheapskate LOL gotta overthink everything
    LOL you don't live in the same city i do
    1 car good driving record no accidents driving for 35 years give or take - 1500 a year (and I'm low according to all my friends)
    Rent here I have friends living in small one bedroom basement apartments paying $700, but the average 1 bedroom rent if $1500
    Electric and food also more expensive
    so it's all relative but the people cutting have to rent a storefront - in my neighbourhood a samllish storefront suitable for a salon would run from 6-10000 per month - that's a lot of $15 haircuts before you would see any money yourself

    nothing, i can butcher it just as good as the people i have to pay, i just shave it off. been 8 years more than paid for my clippers.

    About $55, but I have thick, wavy hair and she always does a really good blowout.

    But if I end up doing color it gets in the range of $150, haircut included. Fortunately I just get foils to blend my 'stress highlights' so I can go about 12 weeks at most between color.

    *memorizing your face so if you ever happen to come into my place of work and firstly expect me to cut your hair for only $20 and then plan on not tipping me.... i've got the perfect haircut for you...:devil: *

    wow, not everyone judges a persons ability on there hair style. there are more people with bad hair running this world than people with great hair.

    Yep I'm an idiot...that would be $300 not $600. Still a lot to me.

    I think what you're saying applies to those in certain professions where having a professional haircut matters and the person is unable to cut his or her own hair to a professional standard. In that case, yes. Absolutely.

    However in my case, I'm an animator who works from home, and having some experience as a stylist in my earlier years I have the skills and an artistic eye to give myself a very nice cut and highlights. Those times when I interviewed for contracts, believe me they were wowed by my art and paid very little attention to my hair. Several years ago when I was making a very high salary I still cut my own hair. I know what looks good and it's more convenient for me, vs leaving the house and sitting in a salon.

    Regarding the tipping issue, I will say I always tipped my manicurist and masseuse well. They were taking care of me, and I like taking care of them with a nice gratuity. This also goes for waitresses and waiters. I'm not a huge "people person" so I appreciate how their careers require working with the public. That alone, I respect. I think tipping is a nice thank you when someone is doing their job and keeping a professional and friendly demeanor. I don't think I could do that all day.

    I work in Real Estate and was joking with some agents the other day about how hairdressers take about 3 times the cost and 5 times the hours to get licensed than a real estate agent. In my state, hair dressers pay a lot of money for school and licensing, plus regular continuing education and license renewals. Real estate agents take 40 hours and about $1000 ti get licensed and help people with the biggest decisions on their lives.

    I think a hair dresser deserves a freaking tip on your $15 hair cut.

    Yep. My 4 year liberal arts degree cost the same amount (at a state university back in 2000) as the current cost for cosmetology school in my area.

    Whats also pricey I hear is the barber's license. i always ask for a straight razor job on my neck at a new place and they always say, sorry we are no barber.

    For guys that buzz, I used to do that, but always had to have someone do the back. How do you do the back of your head, otherwise, you have all this neck hair?

    $70 when it grows out and I do a drastic cut (they charge extra because it takes twice as long)

    Usually between $120 - $175 to get my hair bleached, colored, cut, and a tip. However my hair is shoulder length and hot pink so I'm happy to pay that for what I want.
