What do you say to yourself during a hard workout?

When I run, I usually make mental notes like "That mile wasn't so bad!" or "One mile down, X more to go!" or "You are running at a much quicker pace, keep it up!" I tend to keep track of pace and time to help me get through it. Good music helps too. I drum along and mouth the lyrics.0

I don't talk to myself too much, but I don't really give myself an opportunity to. I don't get much free time to watch TV and such, so when I'm on the cardio machines at the gym, I watch Netflix or Hulu on my Kindle. It's literally the only time I get to catch up on my shows, so I feel motivated to just keep going until the episode is over, haha.
If I'm outside running I'm usually using the "Zombies, Run!" app, so it's pretty much just like "DON'T LET THE ZOMBIES GET YOU DON'T GET EATEN THEY'RE COMING OMG AHHHH"0 -
Nothing so profound or inspiring, I'm afraid. Sometimes it's "F******K!"
THIS ^^^^
Plus a few oh sh** or ah he** thrown in for good measure. Although as my trainer will say, nothing like an "F" bomb to let me know how much you love me!0 -
usually something like;
"You've done it before, you can do it again"
"It's only 45min out of the day"0 -
Harder...0

I get very competitve when I workout, so mine is normally "come on, you can run faster than her, keep on going for longer than her, push through this". Thats actually how I ran my first mile non stop. The girl next to me just kept on going, so I was like.... her, I can do that too. Then when she stopped, I kept going.
Its kinda silly, but hey, I view it as a challenge :P
Its also the "urghhh,...... ow... come on.... you got this" When a good song comes on my pandora, I go beast mode0 -
Depends. If it's cardio, it's either "Shut up, you chose to eat that pizza..." or "This is for the pizza you'll eat later!"
If it's weights, I just tell myself to keep pushing. :flowerforyou:0 -
I constantly tell myself that I KNOW how happy I'll be once I can check this off as done and how much better I'll feel. That's when I have the the urgh moments; the rest of the time I just BLAST my music so it keeps me pumped!0

How bad do I really want this? And that keeps me going0

I set mini goals for myself:
"I'm going to sprint to that tree. Oh, hell, I made it this far, I'll go to the next one"
"I'm going to make it through the whole set of mountain climbers this time"
"I'll do 10 regular push-ups, then if I need to I'll go to my knees"0 -
I pray, a lot! It's usually during cycle class and I'm breathing so hard that I think I'm about to take my last breath. If it is, I just hope it's quick!0

I honestly have to grunt. Cuss myself out. I drown myself in music so I dont hear my thoughts that tell me I want to give up!0
-
"Know who would quit right now? {insert ex's name} would quit right now."0
-
Nothing...pure focus...and some jamming tunes!0

I Know once I am done, it's over until tomorrow. I workout early in the am.0

Music helps me. I'll tell myself I'll go until so many minutes, but then a song will start right before I reach my mark and then I'll think to myself, "Yeah, let's do another so many minutes." When I'm spinning I find I go really fast and hard when the music is pumping, and slow down when the song reaches an end, but because the next upbeat song is always coming up, it pushes me to go hard and fast again instead of slowing down altogether or for more than a few seconds. With exercises like holding a plank for more than a minute, I just close my eyes and focus on breathing in and out, keeping my thoughts free so that I'm not focused on the pain and time just sort of lapses.0

Nothing before I lift.
I think of the cues in my head during lifting.
Copious swearing if I miss a lift.0 -

If there is a 4th set...please don't let my uterus fall out!0 -
Nothing so profound or inspiring, I'm afraid. Sometimes it's "F******K!" And other times "RAWR!! Totally got this!"
I say the first one after heavy deads often.0 -
These are so funny, great thread.
I say "come on baby girl, you've got this"
FML!!
Or else if a sleazy song comes on, I pretend I'm a stripper lmao don't judge me, it passes the time!0 -
I usually say, "I'm dying.....I'm dying.......I'm dying......"0
-
I call myself, "babe or girl" when I do a pep talk. Example: "You got this, girl", or "C'mon, girl". I'm sure if someone were to walk in on me, they would ask the men with the self hugging jackets to come pay me a visit.0
-
"YOU ARE NOT WHERE YOU WANT TO BE...KEEP PUSHING"0
-
I don't say anything out loud lest I come off like a crazy person.
"You GOT this!!"
"C'mon...you're faster than him/her..show them!" (whoever is on the treadmill next to me)0 -
Just obscenities generally. ( not out loud, unless I can't help it lol )
Now gearing up for a hard workout my pep talk goes a little something like... make it count! harder than last time! faster than last time! don't give in!! FOCUS DAMMIT!!!0 -
STOP F##CKIN AROUND AND MOVE THE DAMN WEIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!0
-
I keep these for 1RM work:
F cancer
F cocaine
Pretty sure I can lift anything when I use those.
Otherwise I think about my cues.
If I run, I think about my buddies in combat. Don't run much, though.
That is all.

"I can do this" and
"I am strong"0
