PLANT STRONG - ANYONE?

I can't believe how many people here are being disrespectful to OP. They simply asked if anyone else eats the same way so they are able to support and motivate each other, and shared their PERSONAL experience.
If you don't like the way this person chooses to eat or don't agree with it, then don't reply. It doesn't make fun of anyone else's way of eating, yet I'm seeing a lot of mocking. It'd be nice if people could at least try to be a little more mature and civil on a site full of adults.0 -

That's not actually how the Internet (or real life) works. When you go into any public forum and solicit input, you are very likely to get input from people who don't agree with you. You're even likely to get "disrespectful" input. You don't get to pick and choose who responds or the manner in which they respond. If that's what you want, an echo chamber is probably a better place to have the conversation.0 -

See, here's the thing: for everyone answering in this thread there are X number of people lurking trying to figure out what to do with their diets. There are plenty of successful posters in this thread just offering advice based on experience to maybe, I don't know, help someone out.

That was not person who started the thread who said that. I don't believe that comment is a good reason for people to be disrespectful towards OP. I've seen it many times, a lot of bashing goes towards those who eat differently from the majority on MFP, whatever food choices those happen to be. Perhaps that is why the person made that comment.0 -

So, basically if one agrees with the OP they can call out other groups of people, but people who don't agree with the OP are just plain rude and have no business commenting at all?0 -
OP, you're losing weight rapidly because you're eating around 1000 calories a day. That is not healthy or sustainable for the long-term.
I don't care if you eat a plant-based diet -- that can be done healthily, so more power to you. But you need to eat more if you want to continue feeling healthy and strong.0 -

It's in the rules somewhere.0 -
Also, losing weight with no exercise isn't really something to be proud of. You can't be "strong" if you don't use your muscles. Move them. Strengthen your heart and lungs.0

Tomorrow's Plant Strong lunch will be Spaghetti Marinara!!!
My awesome plant-strong sauce:
1 large can, diced tomatoes
1 small can tomato paste
1/2 head minced garlic or to taste
fresh basil - to taste
oregano - to taste
pepper
Himalayan salt
thyme
2 tbsp agave
1/2 yellow onion
Simmer for a little bit, then serve 1 cup of sauce over 3 cups of spaghetti squash : 200 calories on the nose...and you'll be stuffed to the gills.
Sauce can also be served over whole wheat pasta. Shoot, serve it on whatever!!! 1 Cup = 107 calories.
I'm confused about how you think canned vegetables are not processed? I cannot have any added sugar (processed white sugar makes me very ill) and I have the hardest time finding canned tomatoes that are not loaded with added sugar. Please share the brand if you have, indeed, found canned tomatoes and tomato paste that has no added sugar.
I'm more curious as to how 200 calories = full.
or how 3 cups of squash is only 200 calories either. that seems low.Disagreeing =/= rude.
god why does no one remember that?? you'd think we would get that at some point.
Anyway- I eat all sorts of stuff- but I do like my "whole unprocessed clean" food whatever- along with all my processed food. I'm not particularly picky- most of us who advocate a food is a food as long as you get what you need- often DO eat "clean" but we just make room for all the "unclean" stuff.
There is a rampant opinion that if you eat "dirty" that all we do is eat twinkies and pepsie for breakfast lunch and dinner and that's just simply not true.0 -
I've been doing "mostly plant strong" for a couple of months. I do eat meat, usually chicken or fish once a week or less. But anything I eat, no matter what it is, has been prepared by me from scratch. Nothing processed. I know every ingredient that has gone into my body, and I can pronounce them all!
Only thing I don't know is how much of these whole food ingredients are GMOs and how many are not. I might worry more about GMOs down the road, but for now, the first step is to continue being mostly vegetarian, and to continue to cook my own food from real non-processed ingredients.
Feeling great now, and have enough energy to get back into exercising daily.0 -

I agree with you that people disagreeing is not rude. Talking about optimal nutrition from multiple points of view, giving input, and sharing advice in a respectful way is welcomed. I was referring to the posts I saw that were actually mocking and not giving their opinion respectfully. I know that this is a public forum and this will always happen, but I find it's much worse in threads where the OP's ideas differ from the majority. It's like this in the real world too. I just don't understand the lack of respect.
Differences in opinion is good. It's the manner people approach it that matters, not that everyone agrees.0 -
Good for you to make a commitment to getting a lot more unprocessed plants into your diet.
If anyone does a study, you'll generally find that the "common denominator" of all the diets that most nutritionists agree are reasonably decent to good, is "eating leaves."
If everyone new to MFP just ate within their calorie counts and ate at least half their diet in unprocessed plants (which I have yet to hear anyone seriously believe is a bad thing), they would all race down the weight ladder and be really happy with the results.0 -

Well OP I certainly believe people can be "Plant strong" eg Have a totally plant based diet can supply you with the nutrients required to develop strength...
...the other statements you made can't be bothered commenting on those, as they seem to be born both out of personal preference, anecdotal science/evidence and well you are entitled to you own beliefs. (and I really hate the whole clean/paleo etc supreme diet pi$$ing contest)
...now that being said I went over you diary and can say that I was not impressed or inspired by what I have seen.
I think your ideology's/personal preferences etc maybe (most probably) be somewhat lacking in education on nutrition.
Firstly you seem to have set your diary to MFP default for highest weight loss hence the 1200cal allowance.
Secondly your macros specifically protein are extremely askew for someone promoting getting strong.
Here is a link for setting up your calorie/macro allowance for much better results...
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/819055-setting-your-calorie-and-macro-targets
Since your diet is so lacking in protein here are some links for plant based protein and their nutritional values...

In summary it is possible to develop extreme strength on a plant based diet but only if your nutritional goals are met.
Considering your cal intake is so low I can assume you are in a calorie deficit so your protein requirements would even be higher to maintain LBM, Some further info about protein requirements...

I am vegan for ethical and moral reasons not my health
so I eat vegan cheese, sour cream, ice cream, vegan burgers... all that processed **** and its yummmmmmo
but I still eat a crap load of veggies, fruit, grains, beans too obviously because they are also yummy0 -
This sounds like a bunch of new age, hippie mumbo jumbo to me.
Here, have some bacon cake, you'll feel better.
every.single.time
a vegan/plant based thread is obviously not allowed to exist with out some rude person posting about meat/bacon
sooo damn rude and unnecessary0 -
ITT a bunch of sensitive sally's... Some of you must be real fun to hang out with in real life.0

Is anyone here Plant Strong? What exactly is that, you ask?
In short, eating Plant Strong means you eat all the things that grow from the ground, you've eliminated processed foods (which include white flour and all oils), you've cut sugar, and you've cut all animal products (which include meat, dairy, and cheeses).
For me, I've lost an average of 2 lbs. a week, effortlessly, with no exercise, and my body is responding wildly. I wake up feeling bright eyed and bushy tailed, my nails are strong like talons (for the first time in my life), my digestion is like clockwork, and my spider veins are gone!!! My skin glows, and my cellulite is withering away.
Why don't we all eat like our ancient ancestors of 65,000,000 years ago? We've evolved to eat nothing but processed junk and overwhelm our organs with animal products.
I'm looking for those to jump on a whole foods, plant-based diet with me. I'm 3 months deep, and too many of you are struggling to lose weight, and you're hungry in the process.
Please feel free to see my food diary. Your interest keeps me motivated!!!
Eats canned tomatoes, tortillas, sourdough bread etc but doesn't eat processed food?
Plant strong but does not exercise, good bye LBM!
Tells others that they are struggling and hungry but has their calorie allowance set to sedentary and most probably not getting required amount of nutrients.
I reiterate time for nutritional education aka research...and more than blogs or articles you find that fit nicely into your world view.

Not trying to be rude but if you are trying to educate people on something it is best to back up your declarations with facts and evidence.0 -

Kinda the approach I took... haha. If you're going to preach, at least practice it yourself.0 -
cows = plant strong.
humans = not so much.0 -
The idea is to eat a whole foods, plant-based diet. The marinara sauce is home-made, fully plant strong, nothing processed, I eat whole wheat pastas, and wheat flour, which is used for wheat bread, sour dough bread, and wheat tortillas. The corn tortillas are 100% corn. So yes, they are "legal" in the plant strong lifestyle. Being Plant Strong, essentially, is a vegan lifestyle minus the "junk".
When we talk about processed foods, we're referring to "food-like" products...convenience foods, if you will.
Happy Vegging!

Actually, the post is totally ok.
And, just to clarify, this is about food, not politics. I happen to be very conservative. The reason for this way of eating is solely to reduce the chances of heart disease, cancer, alzheimers, and any other unnecessary diseases that people contract.
I fully support the bacon eaters out there, but unfortunately, heart disease is the #1 reason for death in America.
Happy Vegging!!

I've spent the last year researching the topic...Now, time for you to research as well. Here's 1 snippet of info to get you started:
400 calories of oil will hardly satiate you
400 calories of meat or "food-like" items will satiate you 50%
400 calories of vegetables, legumes, beans, fruits, will satiate you 100% (canned veggies, corn and wheat included)
Canned vegetables and corn tortillas are not processed foods. You must be confused.

I thought eating Plant Strong would be difficult also, but I found a lot of great recipes on Pinterest to keep me busy and motivated.
Here's some info on Himalayan salt:
Packs a hearty 80+ minerals and elements- Himalayan salts are mineral packed crystals which formed naturally within the earth made up of 85.62% sodium chloride and 14.38% other trace minerals including: sulphate, magnesium, calcium, potassium, bicarbonate, bromide, borate, strontium, and fluoride (in descending order of quantity).
Because of these minerals Himalayan pink salt can:
Create an electrolyte Balance
Increases hydration
Regulate water content both inside and outside of cells
Balance pH (alkaline/acidity) and help to reduce acid reflux
Prevent muscle cramping
Aid in proper metabolism functioning
Strengthen bones
Lower blood pressure
Help the intestines absorb nutrients
Prevent goiters
Improve circulation
Dissolve and eliminate sediment to remove toxins
It is even said to support libido, reduce the signs of aging, and detoxify the body from heavy metals.0 -
