Is it ok to have no ink in today's society?

Sometimes I'm scared to admit it because I'm afraid of being judged.

Thing is when most people have tattoos it makes you the one who stands out by not having any.

Tattoos used to symbolize rebellion of cultural norms. What happens when they become the norm?

That being said, I can't wait to get my first one.

I agree! Cant wait to get mine.

Haha! This is part of the reason why I have avoided them. LOL!

There are lots of ways to express oneself. No need for me to permanently brand myself to do it.

I hope so. Cause I have pure white undamaged skin. It looks good on others, but I'd probably get infected and it would look strange with my pasty white complexion.

This is my fear, as well...

Minus the "undamaged." Mine has already shown it doesn't like anything.

People who have no ink are *kitten*.

    All of them.

P.s. Can I say that? Am I gonna get a warning? Because I've never had one before, and I'm trying to live more on the edge. I don't know what I'm allowed to say. I could read the rules, but I don't feel like it. Rules are for wussies.

I am tattoo free, more because I a) can't decide what I would want on my body forever, very little has stayed the same in my life at the age of 34 I am constantly evolving and changing b) Location Location Location. I love them on other people but I prefer to not commit to any one piece of art on my skin

That's hysterical. People who supposedly worship individuality are denying you yours?

If you're not so inclined, don't get tattoos. There's going to be a lot of buyer's remorse in the next 30 years.

<- No ink either (because I'm a pansy), and a strong case could be made for whoring.

I looooooove tattoos...and yet I have none. To much commitment to wear the same thing for forever. :(

edited to add that I also think a strong case can be made for whoring. teehee

I have a lot of real estate tattooed. I'd venture to say it is no longer a rebellion thing nor is it about fitting in. It's about personal expression. If there's one thing I can't stand it's when people ask me what my tattoos "mean". They don't MEAN anything any more than the $80 wall hanging you bought at Kohl's means hanging in your living room. Tattoo televions programs have created that ridiculous notion: "I'm getting this sugar skull tattooed on my thigh because my grandma was important to me." That doesn't make any sense. You're getting it because you like it. Nuff said.

I recommend the OP do the same. Get one or more if you want to. Don't if you don't want to. They're art and they're about personal expression. Being embarassed about NOT having a permanent body modification is a waste of your precious time.

Tattoos are pretty boring and mainstream now. I think it's cool when people don't have any.

It is perfectly ok to NOT have ink in today's society despite its popularity. I do not have any, nor will I ever get one.

I used to have a friend who would always say "everybody has a tattoo but me!" My response was always "if everyone jumped off a bridge are you going to do it too?" My point was that if you want to get a tattoo get it because YOU want it, not just to be like everyone else.
