People who have no ink are *kitten*.

    All of them.

P.s. Can I say that? Am I gonna get a warning? Because I've never had one before, and I'm trying to live more on the edge. I don't know what I'm allowed to say. I could read the rules, but I don't feel like it. Rules are for wussies.

<<< no ink... definitely a *kitten*!

psssst, me too. But don't tell anyone ;)

<- No ink either (because I'm a pansy), and a strong case could be made for whoring.

edited to add that I also think a strong case can be made for whoring. teehee

^^^ This. They are only for *kitten* and sailors.

I have a lot of real estate tattooed. I'd venture to say it is no longer a rebellion thing nor is it about fitting in. It's about personal expression. If there's one thing I can't stand it's when people ask me what my tattoos "mean". They don't MEAN anything any more than the $80 wall hanging you bought at Kohl's means hanging in your living room. Tattoo televions programs have created that ridiculous notion: "I'm getting this sugar skull tattooed on my thigh because my grandma was important to me." That doesn't make any sense. You're getting it because you like it. Nuff said.

I recommend the OP do the same. Get one or more if you want to. Don't if you don't want to. They're art and they're about personal expression. Being embarassed about NOT having a permanent body modification is a waste of your precious time.

Tattoos are pretty boring and mainstream now. I think it's cool when people don't have any.

It is perfectly ok to NOT have ink in today's society despite its popularity. I do not have any, nor will I ever get one.

Thing is when most people have tattoos it makes you the one who stands out by not having any.

Tattoos used to symbolize rebellion of cultural norms. What happens when they become the norm?

That being said, I can't wait to get my first one.

Haha! This is part of the reason why I have avoided them. LOL!

There are lots of ways to express oneself. No need for me to permanently brand myself to do it.

I used to have a friend who would always say "everybody has a tattoo but me!" My response was always "if everyone jumped off a bridge are you going to do it too?" My point was that if you want to get a tattoo get it because YOU want it, not just to be like everyone else.

Many can look trashy. I've read articles on body art, etc., but I can't get past my overwhelmingly negative associations. When I grew up, the only men who had tattoos had been in the Navy and were drunks. The only women who had them were in carnival sideshows. I don't understand how something that is supposed to be a mark of personal individualism can serve as such when nearly everyone seems to feel pressure to do it. I won't say that all tattoos are ugly, but many are unattractive, distracting, and may cause health problems in the future.

A lot of people actually do choose to get tatttooed with images that mean something to them. Not everyone is doing it for fashion.

If yours were just because you like them, then great, but don't presume that people don't get tattoos for the sake of symbolism.

Well, let's just put it this way. I got my ink for me and no one else. Anyone who has a problem with it can kick rocks.

Agree with this totally! All of my tattoos were done because they have significance to me. I really couldn't care less if other people hate them or judge me for them. I didn't take their opinion into consideration when I got them, so their opinion isn't going to affect me now.

With that said, I don't care if people have tattoos or not, and I think it's perfectly fine to NOT have any. To each his own.

And honestly, it seems like the majority of people who care about whether someone is tattooed or not are people who don't have tattoos, and not the other way around.

    +1

All of my tattoos mean something to me. I think it's wonderful if/when other people find aesthetic value in them, but to me personally, they're not just like a Kohl's wall hanging.

Which is why I haven't. I'm not getting one just because its the popular thing to do. I personally have fluctuated in my weight my entire life, and didn't want the tattoo to get stretched out and misshapen. Let alone, I can't imagine one single image of anything that I would be happy having on my body for the rest of my life.
