Hi! I'm 24 years old and I'm new to this but i am currently 173lb and i'd like to loose 8 pounds by the end of october so i can be 165lb.0

Ok so weigh-in with the trainer this morning was better than wednesday's. Monday I had been down to 199.8, and then wednesday was back up to 204, this morning was 203.2 so let's hope we keep this going downward. I was surprised it was down too since Saturday was a looong night of drinking, which I never do, but hey when the kids away the parents will play. So here's to keeping my cardio goal, and starting off on the right foot this month. Today is my longer day with work and school but once I get home it's time to go jogging/running and do as much as I can.0

How was everyone's weekend?! I had a great one! Got some really great news on Friday, so my friends and I had a bit of a celebration. :drinker: haha. I still stayed within my calories and had a blast! Saturday I woke up to find that I lost 2lbs since my last weigh in! I was so excited! haha I'm so close to almost 20lbs gone! and a few more to 25! Then I'll be 25% done with this weight loss journey. I can't believe how fast time is going. So far, my journey hasn't been too hard. Routine is key- track those calories & work out when you can! Don't kill yourself, cuz then you wont wanna do it anymore. That's my mantra anyway. Baby steps.0 -

I was 152 this AM, I am usually 150 first thing in the morning...
I am 5'0 and my goal is 130, Id like to be smaller but for now I am keeping it at 130!!!!

Thanks! I definitely agree. Doing too much too fast causes burnout. I especially know that- whenever I started diets in the past I would kill myself in the gym or working out at home. And then I wondered why I didn't wanna do it the next day! lol. Now I find things I like to do and stick to those for now. Once those get too easy I kick it up a notch.

Sort of on track! I did a bunch of push-ups yesterday but most of them were on my knee since my upper body just isn't feeling the full push-up yet... I swear I'm going to do 10 if it friggen kills me! Running is going amazing - I ran 3.75 miles today (6km) and it felt great! Weight loss is seriously hurting but that's alright - I know I'll get it down eventually. Just have to keep working at it!
Hope everyone else is doing great. I have a feeling that loads of people are dropping out of this challenge so perhaps in a week we'll have to cut down our list of goals! I'll keep you guys posted over the next few days on my progress and on Monday when I have my weigh-in and then my first 5km race!! Lots of exciting stuff :bigsmile:

This is my first post on any site (apart from the one where I posted my goals in this thread) and hope I'm able to take advantage of the support system that you all have here.
I've lost weight earlier but never have been able to maintain it. So my goal is not just to lose but also not to gain again. I started my journey again 2 weeks back and it has been pretty good so far. But now I'm down with a cold & though motivated to go to the gym, won't be going since I don't want to spread the germs. Hopefully, I'll be back on track soon. Didn't know I'd miss the gym so soon!!

Not a massive loss but still a loss and I'm sure a welcome one :bigsmile: Totally insane for getting up that early to work out though. What sort of class was it? I definitely would be needing a protein shake made with coffee after that one...

Hello All!!~ Congrats to those who have lost and are on track and hugs to those who are having troubles.
Last week I finally joined two dance classes to help me stay HAPPY when I workout. I've danced my entire life but got lazy over the summer. It was a huge wake-up call since two of the ladies in the class were moms and HOT HOT HOT!!! Motivation!
I do have a question. I work nights and days and my schedule is insane! I started gaining weight when I began working nights. It may be a coincidence but I doubt it. Does anyone else work nights? What do you do to keep on track?

I lost 1 whole kilo last week!!! so happy!!!
BUT
- then it was the long weekend and I stupidly rewarded myself with food and of course drinks!
I am working extra hard this week to make sure the scale doesn't go back up. eeek \
on another note - anybody find the younger you are the more people sabotage you?
The girls at work know I am trying to lose weight, but no matter how much I tell them - they still drop in with chocolate biscuits or doughnuts or even the full fat coffee - when everyday I order the skinny flat white in front of them. I'm not angry with them at all, i know they probably just don't want to face me talking about weight because then they might have to face their own issues.
still... grrrr!
anyway that's my whinge for today. goodluck everyone for the second week of October!!0 -

Because I am in my final year of university everyone keeps harassing me into nights out where loads of alcohol will be flowing!! I still enjoy going out without drinking but as soon as everyone else becomes a little tipsy they try and force drinks on you even though they know how well you've been doing. They normally say "But you've been so good, one drink won't hurt!"
They are only trying to make me feel involved, but it's hard that they don't really get it!
I have to be at least a UK size 12 for my graduation!!!

Can you add me? My October goal is to loose another 4 lbs....now under normal circumstances I would have said more but we have a couple of family occasions coming up and I don't want to dissapoint myself after I inevitably over indulge lol.
Emmyworthy, as someone who has been out of uni for 3 years now and still gets dragged out on studentesque drinking binges periodically by my old uni mates, I'd say the best thing to do is order your own drink of say, diet coke, and then when they ask tell them you got some vodka in there or something, or just don't tell them what you're drinking at all, just don't talk about it. Hopefully (though I don't know your drinking buddies) if you don't draw attention to it, they won't be too bothered.0 -

Just thought I would check in. On Monday I had my late day, I ate awesome and I hit the gym for 30 Mins. BUT... dun dun dun.... i ate pizza and icecream yesterday. I feel bad about it but I have to be accountable and just get right back to it. I packed healthy food today and I am going to get my bootttahhh to the gym tonight when I get home. I hope you guys are staying on track.

i totally agree! i feel that now that a lot of my friends know i'm losing weight it's as if they're trying harder to get me to give into temptation. haha. jerks. i think it's partly jealousy to be honest. i try to keep my weight loss to myself unless people ask. a lot of people don't like hearing about others' successes as strange as that is. i must say though, my friends are usually very supportive. Its the drinks that they try to kill me with! haha. Many of my friends associate fun with alcohol, so if I'm not drinking, they think I'm not having fun. I actually have more fun sober cuz I get to make fun of their drunk butts! haha
meag- i'm doing great! having a really good week so far. i'm hoping for that 2lb loss this week!

Quick update (because I'm running late)...
I had a really great, motivating morning at the gym today! I went to an aerobics class but it actually turned out to be a spinning + weights class (nice advertising, Premier). I have never done spinning before, and it was very *very* hard for someone who NEVER cycles, but I was pouring sweat within 5 mins and had a great workout. 30 mins of spinning + 20 mins of hand weights (upper body) and I was done. Then I figured, I'm here, may as well push myself!!
So I decided to run just 1 mile - and see if I could do it in under 10 mins! And I did - 9:54, exactly. My fastest mile yet. I'm really proud of myself today!! :bigsmile:
Hope you guys are all hitting little milestones too - It certainly helps to keep you motivated. Great to hear from everyone else!
Amy - You're an all star. Seriously.
UCONNCOED - Everyday can't be perfect but today's a new day - start fresh and eat as healthy as you can And get lots and lots of water!!
Lithuria - Great idea! Setting attainable, reasonable goals is a great way to keep yourself from being discouraged. When you set goals that you know you can't really meet, it's easier to get off track. Welcome to the group!

Good to hear I am not the only one!!
It makes me stronger to say no!
It's bad enough that my boyfriend has the metabolism of a 12 year old boy and can consume a whole block of chocolate in front of me. (which he did btw, last night, in bed!) But then to get to work and there is crispy pastry waiting on desk, it's too much! When I complained about it to my mum she didn't quite get it, she said - "oh how awful your kind friends bought you some cake - must be horrible to work there". It's horrible when I have to somehow sneak the food into the trash or worse - eat it because i feel bad if i say no.
I totally agree with the alcohol thing. The biggest thing that put weight on for me were the years of drinking at university. It's taken a fairly big effort to try and avoid going out all the time, just to reduce the temptation. I have also given up smoking and friends who smoke are THE WORST. smoking in front of you, joking about giving you one, 'you can have one, go on, just one'.
I shouldn't bag out all friends though. lots of friends offer me so much great support! Especially all the MFP friends. And this group!

I am doing great this week...first week in so long that I've felt motivated daily.
I did get asked out on a date though and am nervous. I've been single for 3 years and HATE dates! I like who I am but not how I look right now. I don't want to sit there and not eat anything or have fun because I'm counting calories in my head and worrying about going to bed so I can wake up early to run. AHHHH!!! hehe..silly girl that I am.

Tab - Girl, I hear you! I was single for 4 years before I met my current boyfriend! total fluke that we met too - I was very happy on my own, doing my own thing, and dates were *not* my forte. Its hard not to tell every single person you've ever met you are trying to lose weight (since it seems like everyone's trying to sabotage you :grumble: ) but the reality is that a lot of times you don't want it to dominate the conversation, or to stick out like a sore thumb! So I tend to just exercise like MAD when I want to treat myself and then try to make healthier choices without seeming like a calorie-nazi :bigsmile: Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But for one date you can definitely make an exception. Especially if the guy is worth it!
Sophie - Gahhh Boys and their metabolisms! I know! My friend's birthday was today and I watched him consume SO much trash and none of it will go to his *kitten*, like it would to me! The good news is that for the most part, I no longer even want to consumer that junk because I know how *kitten* it is for my body and being healthy is my number 1 priority! Saying "no" is hard at first but in the long run you feel so good about your choices and that over-rides it all - Skinny folks will never understand how much of a pain their "generosity" can be! :laugh: I also gave up smoking + drinking when I started on my weight loss journey (1 year ago) and it's been an uphill battle... I've stopped going to the bars altogether (except the night club I work at - loads of fun there, ugh) to avoid the temptation of alcohol, but smoking still gets me all the time. It's tough! Just have to stay strong. Running has helped to motivate me - I want to be able to run as far and fast as I can and it's a great deterrent when I feel like smoking.
Anyway, you guys both sound like you're doing awesome! I'm so glad to have you guys here :bigsmile: :bigsmile: :bigsmile:

hey all, glad to see everyone is having successes!! so today i had a dressing room moment!! i had to get dress pants for an interview i had today, since the ones i have are fortunately too big (woohoo!) so i went to NY&Co, one of my fave stores, and was able to fit into an 8!!! first time ever in my adult life i've been in single digits.. it was short lived though b/c the 8's were cropped pants, which are no longer appropriate with the weather. i ended up with a size 10 in another cut/style of actual long pants.. i couldn't believe it.. i think i took 10 min in there just staring lol.0

Meag- Well done on your 10 minute mile!!! I can't even run for a minute yet! Can't wait until I can get my body to do that!!!! You rock, doing 30 minutes of spinning and still having strength in your legs to run a mile!!! Way to go!!!
Sophie- If you are strong enough to sneak bad food into the bin you shouldn't feel horrible!! I'd be so proud of myself if I managed that!! And definitely don't feel bad saying no!! You've done so well to quit smoking as well as lose weight!
Tab- Have an awesome time on your date! Is there any way you could plan something which wouldn't involve food so then you wouldn't have to worry about counting calories! See if there are any fun activities around that would make a good date!

Ahhhh AWESOME!! God, that is SUCH a good feeling :bigsmile: I bet you were psyched! Plus, I just have to say that I love NY&Co for their dress clothes. I live in Canada but any time I drive down to NY to go shopping I always go to their store in Buffalo. So inexpensive (compared to anything up here :grumble: ) and lots of good stuff. Keep it up, Allie - In no time you'll be grabbing 8's all over the place. The hardest part is going to be convincing yourself that you're actually as small as you've gotten. A lot of times I end up picking up sizes that are way too big for me because I've still got the mind-set of a size 14.... Sigh. It never ends!
Emmy - Really glad you're feeling inspired Hope your weight loss is going well too!
Insky - That's a great goal to set for yourself - 30 mins of exercise a day is a perfect way to start. Similarly, you could set that you want to walk for 30 mins a day. You definitely don't need a gym to lose weight! I haven't had a gym membership in 8 years and I managed to lose all my weight without it. Just use what you've got - Great job so far!
As for me... Today is supposed to be my rest day, I think. I decided that yesterday. But I really want to have more cals to eat (I must admit, I'm a total foodie and can't stand eating only 1290 cals a day...) so I may go out and run anyway. Just a slow jog so as not to screw my legs up too bad. My long run is tentatively scheduled for tomorrow - It's supposed to be on Sundays but I have a 5km race on Monday so I am going to rest on Sunday if I can stand to. We'll see what happens. I know there's a cardio kick boxing class at the gym I've got a trial membership with, so I may do that tomorrow instead. Or maybe I'll just go crazy and do them both LOL doubtful!

I don't go to the gym either! It's not a big at all. In fact, I actively abhor gyms and gym like settings. For me (I want to stress that so as not to dampen the enthusiam for those of you who do like it) it's just a recipe for stagnation and bordom. Wii fit is cool because its interactive and gives you something to shoot for. I took up running this summer and that's worked well for me because there is an endless series of goals and achievments. Go with what makes you feel good - just like a job, working out is a big commitment of time- you should enjoy it!
Anyway, the main bullet point is, Wii Fit for 30 min a day is an excellent goal!
My update: Last night, I just couldn't resist getting on the scale-- my weigh in isn't until Sat. but I've been doing sooooo well, I just wanted to see. (I was also the kid who used to try to stay up and "catch Santa"- not really surprising) My EVENING weight was 169.6! It's a weird milestone but being definitively under 170, at all times of the day or night, it just kind of makes it real...if that makes any sense whatsoever. Anywho, this coming week (10/11 on) I am going to move from 1x a week strength training to 2x off set by 3x a week running.
