Pre-planning. I usually know what I'm having dinner so I'll enter that in the morning, plus whatever evening snack I want (which includes beer or wine), then I'll plan my lunch and afternoon snacks around that to make it fit.

The decision to do it. I know a lot of people who "want" to lose weight...but they haven't made the concrete decision that it is going to happen....so it doesn't. Once you commit to the choice...everything else starts to fall in line pretty well. Oh & a food scale. :)

The right mindset. (read: Motivation). For me it was to looky sexy, who doesnt want that. Then it became more real; to enlist in the Army. Now it is to commission as an officer.

^^ THIS!! e.g., I'm going out tonight, so I looked up the restaurant's menu and picked out what I want and logged it. Needed to eliminate 2 of my 3 snacks and have a light lunch, but I'm in my calorie goal and will have 2 glasses of wine. The times I get into trouble are when I eat then log afterwards. Pre-planning and pre-logging are key for me!!
