Chicken Smoothie

Has anybody ever tried adding chicken, tuna, or the like to their green smoothie?

Most days I bring a smoothie for lunch not because I love smoothies, but because I can use my 30 minute lunch break for walking, then get away with drinking my lunch at my desk later. I tend to put just about any and everything into my smoothies. Then I started wondering if I should try throwing 3 or 6 oz of chicken in there. It seems like a really bad idea, but maybe not. (If the chicken doesn't make me gag, I'll try tuna next.)

You know, the world really doesn't have enough blended meats added to semi liquid products.

I just threw up in my mouth a little but if you can palate it, more power to you.

I'll just have a nice, tall glass of delicious milk.

I could see bacon going well with chocolate powder and peanut butter...

    (had to be posted).

I've heard of the "food for just fuel" type eaters who can stomach a can of salmon in a smoothie.

my father in law tried to make chicken salad one time and used a blender.

    does that count?

i was polite and ate it but it was awful.

Salmon's not far off from what I've been thinking.

Ok, make that chicken, tuna, and salmon.

Wait, are the food just for fuel types still alive?

It can't be worse than the time I threw a whole clove of garlic in my smoothie, can it?

that's in reference to bodybuilder type eaters who eat some questionably palatable stuff...

your smoothies dont sound appealing to me.

    are you making them savory?

this is so foreign to me, man.

It's starting to sound like an almost fun thing to do.

ALMOST fun? so still not exciting enough to say it's fun, but just on the brink of being able to be called? sounds boring

Wouldn't it be basically cold chicken soup?

I've made some pretty bad smoothies, but the garlic thing was the worst. My daughter came home after I finished blending and wanted to know why the whole house smelled like rotting garbage. I was immune to it until I left the house and came back in. She was right.

Honestly - if you're looking for the protein, get a good protein powder. Or add peanut butter, or beans? I guess I wonder: why waste a good piece of chicken (that you could have at home for dinner, maybe?) when there are so many other ways to get fat and protein.

you could just use a can of chicken, some mayo or miracle whip, and some relish and cross your fingers...

I'm using protein powder now, which accounts for about 20 of the 58 grams of protein in there. The rest of the protein is coming from pea pods, hemp seeds and miscellaneous things.

I just thought I might try meat instead of protein powder.

My wife is manager of a 200 bed residential unit for the elderly, those in need of assisted living, and those with dementia. I helped serve Xmas dinner one year - this idea reminds me of what peoples food looked like plated. Nothing quite so unappealing as roast beef that has been put through a blender and made in to hash.

You'll have to drag me kicking and screaming...............

Personally, I wouldn't drink it but why not try it and see how it is? If you like it and it works for you, then great!

Otherwise, I'd invest in a good protein powder and save the meats for dinner.

You're adventurous, props. But I would never venture into the land of blended meats, unless it was a chicken salad sandwich loaded with mayo, on bread, non-blended.

And I did try beans once. I think that was the same smoothie as the garlic. I didn't know you were supposed to cook beans first, though. (Something about being bad for you, poison, dying, and stuff.)

My vote is go for it. Good to try stuff. Leave it in the blender for a while and it will be hot soup.

pasturized liquified egg whites may be another option for adding protein to your smoothie. Textures kinda different (well, for a lot of us it's unusual anyway), but it's a pretty tasteless addition. Might add less sodium than canned or cooked chicken.

That's my next thread. If I get my protein via a chicken smoothie, I was going to open another thread asking for a good recipe for faux steak made out of protein powder.
