The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health has an annual budget of 1.89 billion dollars. There are hundreds of non-profit agencies dedicated to helping the homeless and mentally ill residents of LA County.

    Texas, all of it.

My theory is that the best place to be in all of Texas is right in the middle. That way, no matter which direction you go, you're leaving Texas.

On behalf of Texas, just keep going. Thank y'all.

Why are people from Texas so....passionate about Texas? Texans practically treat it as if it's its own country. I don't get it. My one experience was Houston...and it was humid, hot, and somewhat gross.

And it was really difficult to find a darn liquor store with beer, which I found odd.

this dump of a restaurant everyone kept raving about... local joint called The Lamp Lighter... "you have to have their Sunday brunch --- it is a-MAZING let me tell you". it was decidedly not amazing.

haha that's so funny! There's this local place nearby me that's also called the lamplighter that I would never return to. I found a longish black hair that was cooked into my omelet... *shudder*

I can't speak for all the counties in Texas, but in many states, you don't have to go to a liquor store to buy beer, as it can be sold in the grocery stores. In my home town, there were no such things as liquor stores, as any alcohol could be sold in grocery and convenience stores.

I think it was just the area I was in, there were no grocery stores within walking distance, mostly strip clubs.

I went out there for a business trip. It wasn't awful, but I don't understand the state pride thing. For any state really.

I have been all over the world: Far East (three countries and first combat tour), Middle East (three counties and second combat tour), Europe (at least ten countries), South America (two countries), Central America (four countries), and numerous Pacific Rim (three countries and one state). Some were truly the A$$pit of the world, a couple even made hemorrhoid status.

There is not a single place that I would save I would never go back to given the right reason/motivation.

Do not mean to sound like a ‘Debbie Downer’ but, never is a pretty strong word.

    Just one ole man’s opinion……….

Wisconsin Dells. I grew up 15 miles away and went there every summer as a kid. That was back when it was actually quaint, fun, and interesting. Then the waterparks and casinos and resorts moved in and ruined it.

    Church

    This.

Also the bar I used to work at in college. I have some really awesome memories from there. I have heard that things have changed a lot there. I don't want to go back and tarnish those memories with disappointment.

There is a reason for this phenomenon exhibited by Texans.
In the beginning, God made the world in 6 days and then he rested.
But to his chagrin he saw on that 7th day he had missed a spot.
It was hot, humid, flat, unfinished, miserable, buggy, no zoning.
What could he do? He had finished creation! So he thought about it,
and decided to create people that would live there and think it was the greatest place on earth.

Elephant Bar. We were eating mud pie for dessert and my mom pulled a QUARTER SIZED SCAB out of HER MOUTH after a bite of whipped cream.

    We both started gagging.

ETA: emphasis on the scab *shudder*
