I've suggested to my teen daughter, who has an anxiety disorder, that she might feel better if she got some exercise every day. She rode the indoor bike for 30 minutes yesterday, and said she felt pretty good afterward. Today, she decided to stay on for 45 minutes, and got off smiling.

Me too! I am SHOCKED at how HAPPY when I stuff multi colored veggies that I suspect people are overfeed but starving. I eat Dr Gabe Fuhrmans eat for strength GBOMBS diet. Bitter greens, collards, kale, turnip tops, watercress. Beans. Onions. Mushrooms. Berries. Seeds. Eaten together these catalyze each others' disease fighting properties. Best!2 -

Yes!! Even though my immediate motivation for exercising is change in body composition and fat loss the nitty gritty day to day reason I workout is for mental clarity and management of depression/anxiety.
In hs I was a runner. I was also a collegiate athlete (who didn't train in winter very consistently...) this winter of 2016/2017 has been the first winter where I've been consistently active and it's also been the first winter where I didn't really suffer from SAD (seasonal affective disorder)/stress/anxiety. It has been managed! Not disappeared, but managed and in check!!17 -

It eventually stopped so late this afternoon I set off. The wind was horrendous and the sun was nowhere to be seen. It was very cold.
I struggled, I really did. Got up the HFH Part I and II and couldn't bear the thought of doing it again. Carried on cycling for a bit, got my motivation back and decided to loop round and do the hills again. Well, I did it yesterday after all!
The wind was doing its best to get me off the bike and nearly succeeded a couple of times. But I carried on. Had to ride at a peculiar angle but carried on.
Then the clouds ganged up on me and threw some rain in my direction. A bit unfriendly (especially as I wear glasses) but I carried on.
Made it to the top of the hill again, had to pass a horse on a narrow bit of road - slightly scary experience as a few months ago when I passed a horse it reacted badly and the rider, horse and I nearly became entangled so I'm very wary of horses now. Raining quite hard now but I carried on. As you do.
Motivation is waning a bit now, my legs are burning, painfully. I want to go home. But I have a word with myself and point out that to loop around again is only another four miles on top of what I have to do to get home, I've already done 16 miles so maybe I should just get on with it.
Then it stopped raining, so I carried on. Round again, back up to the top of the hill and then carried on to the end of the road before turning around and heading for home. I was so relieved to be going home as the wind had picked up again and was buffeting the bike and me all over the road.
Going down the HFH I hit 40.8 mph despite the driver in front of me having a close relationship with his brake pedal I hate drivers who ride their brake pedals as you never know if they are really braking or just sitting on the pedal.
Then, half a mile from home the sun decided to make an appearance. Still very windy but the sun was a welcome sight as I was very cold by this point (it was also 6.15 pm, so the sun was low in the sky). I did thank the sun, and made a request that it shows itself a little more often, especially when I'm out on the bike. I was probably ignored but if you don't ask . . . .
So, covered 25.28 miles, got that speed of 40+ mph and returned home feeling very happy. Now all I need is a bath to offer my poor legs a bit of relief and I'm good11 -

I do so love the "real everyday life improvement" NSVs like this - and it's especially fun to read when the everyday life is so very, very different from my suburban routine. You've achieved so much, Julie - good show!9 -

I finally managed to get my weight down to 53.5 kegs (I'm really short, so my weight should be around 50 kgs). I've been yo yo-in up and down since the past few weeks, and it's the first time I've ever gone below the 54 kg mark! Sorry this doesn't sound much, but it made me feel so good33

Last night I signed up for a body fat loss competition at my gym. It scares the crap out of me to be competing with a whole bunch of people. I am fighting with myself thinking there is no way I could do this, and knowing that I can. I have lost 50 pounds in 9 months. I certainly can lose some body fat/weight.30

So I work for a reading program that is used in lots of schools. We have soooo many motivation ideas for getting struggling readers to read. I figured, heck maybe I'll look through some of these and find a motivation idea for myself! I am 70% done with my goal and just need that extra push to keep going.
Had to change up the student motivation plan to fit my goals of course, but I am happy with what I came up with!
I divided my remaining pounds into 5 pound increments and will have a reward for each one. I tried to think of things that would be special for me, and were also a little different from how I normally would enjoy myself.
I took out $100 in cash (I budget this much per week for spending money, so I used up the current week's for this project) and divided it into six envelopes.- 250 go to Cookie Love (involves a scenic drive to a little shop with fancy local-made cookies!!) $10
- 245 (75 pounds lost) take the afternoon off work (PTO)
- 240 buy some clothes at Old Navy $25
- 235 buy a plant or plants $20
- 230 go to Target (a big deal for me because the closest one requires taking a ferry to New York! #vermontproblems) $30
- 225 take yourself out to breakfast $15
In each of the envelopes I included a little sticky note with a note from me saying things like "Wow you're amazing!! Go get yourself something nice! You deserve it!" and I used all kinds of colorful pens and stickers (I office supplies!)

I've been overweight pretty much my entire life (almost 230 at 14) and have slowly been chipping away at it over the past 10 years, mostly in spurts of 20-40 pounds then a couple years of maintaining. I always thought that once I got down to around a size 12, I'd be just fine. I thought being a 10, or anything less was unattainable for me, as was ever being under 160 lbs. Today, I got my bridesmaid's dress for my sister's wedding, and it's an 8. AND it fits. And I'm still 25 lbs from goal, but I just got into the 150s (159.0 this morning) for the first time probably since elementary school. It's been a long, slow road but I'm so glad things are starting to pay off.

Today a group that I am involved in had a pizza and bowling party. It was a massive success, and all our guests had a great time. My NSV for it was that there was (nearly) unlimited pizza and cupcakes for me to eat. I had some, but when I got full, I simply stopped. I didn't try to justify eating more to myself, with ideas like, "I've worked hard to put on this party, I deserve it" or "This is the last pizza I'm gonna get for another X months, so I should really stock up". I was kind of indifferent to it, actually. I ate some, and that was it. End of story.
It feels good to have such a healthy relationship with food. It's there, but it's not the most important thing of the party. Having fun with my group was the most important thing!!45 -
As my daughter was assisting me zip up my dress this morning, she said "Mom, I don't have to hold the zipper together!!"36

I was forced to buy new trousers - down 3 sizes from the last time I bought some. Very pleased!27

Which is why I'm buying dresses instead of pants theses days. Takes a bit longer for them to look baggy on me. I was going through pants so fast, it was getting ridiculous.

Went to a theme park yesterday - not only can I fit on ALL the rides aimed at small children but the lap bars close fully without touching any part of me 18 months ago I had to do the "walk of shame".41

Having my son heading off to college in the morning, giving me a hug and saying, "You feel skinnier." Also, visiting with a friend today and sitting on her couch, both of us facing each other, and having one leg tucked under and the other knee up and wrapped over my other leg. Feels good to be getting more comfortable in my body again.27

went swimming this morning aiming to swim a mile (64 laps). Swam 2km (80).
Yay
Especially after combat and pump last night, now I know I can do 80 every morning and don't need to 'take it easy' on Fridays aka wuss out!
(I have Saturday and Sundays to 'take it easy' as I don't swim and get a couple of hour lie in)

It's been quite a while since I posted here, but like most people my life has been kind of hectic. That's why I feel compelled to share my most recent NSV's.
1. The scales have been seriously stuck for about 6mths. This week, after sticking to my diet and exercise plan religiously, we have movement. A 1kg loss is absolutely worth celebrating but what's even better is that I never gave up.
2. Six months of stuck scales had actually resulted in body shape change... shopping for new jeans is the NSV!
3. Instead of dreading dinner with my husbands family tmrw I am really looking forward to it. Not because I know my dinner is going to be revolting, but because I cannot wait to see their faces! I haven't seen these people since August last year33 -
I have to go shopping for new work pants as my current ones can slide right off if I dont use a belt, I have tried to wait as long as I could, but they look really bad now21

I had been kind of off my game lately. Not logging tightly and not exercising much, with a weight plateau to prove it. This week I just decided to get my head back in it, thus the motivation plan above. I pre-logged as much as I could and didn't partake in any foods I didn't know the calories for. Even more importantly, I didn't weigh myself all week (I have been a daily Happy Scale weigher for ~8 months). I set up weekly weight goals for me to reach my final goal by July 4th (my MFP anniversary). Today was my weigh-in day and I lost exactly the pounds I planned to lose! Who knew? Trust in MFP and you will succeed36
