Top 20% in my age bracket at Savage race yesterday and that was with doing one obstacle twice for a video plus medic stop.22

I was having a lapse in will power and judgement. I was driving to the store because I was craving brownies and peanut butter. About 3/4 of the way there I woke up and turned around. It's stupid that I'm constantly at odds at myself with things like that still, but I'm happy I did the right thing.47

And today, after trying on a pair of 32" pants in the store yesterday, I'm wearing my skinny pants today. I intend to drop another 10 lb to reach 160, then stabilize.26

I went kayaking for the first time in a while. It was a long 5 mile paddle and I could've kept going but dad wanted to turn around. Last year when I would go my muscles would hurt. Not anymore!21

I went to play with the dog on the floor this morning and, without thinking, got into a plank position and easily and slowly let myself down to the floor. Then, when I was done, I did a push up -- with seemingly zero effort -- to get up.
WHAT?! The last time I tried to do these I just couldn't, even on my knees or on an angle against the wall.
Tomorrow I just might try to see how many push-ups I can do, but for now I'm just reveling in my one easy, perfectly executed push-up!28 -
Went fishing yesterday with my kids and caught first bullhead of the year so I asked my 10yo daughter to take a pic, got home and looked at it, I actually said out loud to myself "wow! Is that me?", for the first time I saw a thinner me.27

I may have inspired a colleague to join mfp. She asked what I had been doing to lose weight, so I told her mfp, today she said she just needs to get organized. I told her it's easier if you just start with logging and make gradual changes and I think she actually liked that idea22

Increased my bike ride from 20km to 25km ...felt tired but proud looking towards 30km next time17

Been using bath sheets for years, since bath towels are too small (and would always show the part you want covered the most! lol). Yesterday on a whim I grabbed my husband's regular sized towel after a shower. It wrapped all the way around and I didn't feel like I was going to flash anyone!33

THIS^ I had a similar discovery. I needed to shower at the gym, which I never do. So threw a regular towel in my gym bag to save room, not the usual bath sheet. I planned to just change in the showers, which are huge. About half way through the shower, I realized my error in thinking--the stall was too wet all over and I would have to go to the actual changing room afterward to change. I angsted through the rest of that shower as I thought about how I was going to flash half the world in a mad dash to the changing room, 'cause I only brought a regular towel. Imagine my surprise as after the shower, I wrapped that regular towel around my body for the first time in about 25 years...and it covered me completely, and then some! Yep, that was me cackling away in the gym shower that evening. I felt like showing everyone--"Hey look it fits!" (But I didn't....that's what the NSV thread is for)46 -
1) So, at 9am this morning, in 25-degrees heat (just not used to these temperatures) my son and I continued our running. We made it to 38 minutes actual running time, about 3K distance. I'm putting the lack of progress on the distance down to the heat, as we were running veeerrrryyy slowly indeed (especially in the shade). At this rate, it's going to take over an hour to hit that 5K . . .
If it's forecast to be this hot on Wednesday (our next running day) then we're going out at dawn. Which means getting up at about 4am
2) From last night's bike ride:
Yup, 44.1 mph. That's the fastest I've ever gone down that hill I can also hit 20 mph on the flat when I go all out over a short distance. Never done that before either. I can't wait to take the bike up to the huge hill I cycled up and down last summer - first overcast/cooler than today day we get, I'm off up there.20 -
I've always felt kind of stupid doing crunches, because I'm old enough that I grew up doing sit-ups in school, and with a sit-up it's easy to tell when you stop, you stop when you get to your knees! Whereas with a crunch I always think, "Am I doing it enough? Should I be curling up higher?" So I looked up instructions for crunches to see if there was any sort of standard. And I found this:

Aha! Putting Velcro on the ground so you can tell how far your fingers should move when you raise up the right amount, genius! Plus a test to evaluate how fit you are.
So, I lie down with my iPad set to metronome and my freshly Velcroed mat, and start doing crunches according to the ACSM standard. Only I somehow missed the part of the test instructions where it says stop when you reach 75. A couple of months ago I set out to do the 200 crunch challenge, but I stopped before I finished it, because honestly I really hate doing crunches and I was bored. So I decided I would see if I could hit 200 now. And I did. No problemo, I can do crunches now until the cows come home. Since you only have to do 75 to max out the test, this means I maxed out the test! (No comment on whether I maxed out the 'smart people read the instructions' test.)
So I felt pretty chuffed by then so I did the other test, which is how many you can do in 60 seconds, and got 77. I feel pretty pleased with myself considering six months ago I was an obese middle aged lady who had just had abdominal surgery and could barely sit up in bed.
I also learned something about my exercise routine, which is that apparently my Bollywood Zumba workouts have been improving my ability to do crunches more than doing actual crunches did.31 -
My "fat shorts" are starting to get loose again and since last week I cut soda out cold turkey and have only been tempted once to drink some but instead turned to my awesome water!20

The major factor was my husband's 20th Wedding Anniversary present to me (our anniversary is next week). Now, he doesn't usually bother with presents for anniversaries, which is fine as we generally get what we want, whenever, as long as it's not too expensive. Did he get the traditional 20th anniversary presents? China? Platinum? Oh, no, no, no. He goes for a new set of road tyres for my bike, ones that could be inflated much higher than my current road/track tyres:
This might seem a little strange as a gift, especially an anniversary gift but it's actually incredibly thoughtful as I'd been muttering about how to increase my speed, thinking that it was just a matter of time, practice, experience, losing more weight and increasing my strength. He also knows just how much cycling means to me. I was utterly made up by this.
This afternoon, he fitted them on my bike, as well as giving it a(nother) service (during which he decided that in addition to all the tyres and brake blocks I've killed off since getting the bike, I now need a new rear sprocket and chain, and it won't be long before new wheels will be necessary as well). Then he decided that I needed to road test it (despite the extreme heat). So I had to plaster sunblock on and cover up as much as I could (probably took me longer to get enough sunblock on than the ride took). I did a two mile "test" and all was well, so then he wanted to know how much faster I'd be able to go so off I went on my 12-mile trip.
It was WONDERFUL. I was able to get along so much faster, it was way easier as well (and I wasn't putting any more effort in than I have on any other day). I got up hills in higher gears, and in gears that I never thought I'd be able to use UP the hills. And this particular route is 75% uphill. I am thrilled, to say the least.
And my top speed was 43.7 MPH! Higher than recently, but this was directly into that brisk wind, I can't wait to see how it goes on a quieter day.
My DH is such a hero. I've fallen in love with him all over again (not that I didn't love him anyway, he's my world). And I have no idea what to get him for our anniversary as there's no way I can beat that.
Incidentially, about a month ago I asked him what he wanted to do to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary, being as it was a bit special (I don't know many couples who make it to 10 years, let alone 20) - he just gave me a look and said that as far as he was concerned, ALL of our anniversaries are special
Nothing more appropriate than a matching set of rings. Congratulations on your anniversary.

Someone really upset me last night-to the point of crying. Usually I would eat my emotions. Instead I gave myself an hour to cry it out and lay in bed. Then I read a book. I am very proud of my journey so far and that I was able to get past it without destroying all the hard work that I have put in over the last 6 months.39

Running my 1st ever 1/4 marathon (6.55 miles): finished in 59:33, 3rd in my age group & 80th out just over 400 people. I am very pleased.25

Back in Nov. 2015 I joined MFP with no real plan, just "lose some weight". I believe in It's a Lifestyle, Not a Diet. So weight-loss has come very slowly, ok with me, because I don't want to feel deprived. Why do this if I'm going to be miserable and crabby? Over the weekend at my niece's graduation party, my sister (who lives 3 hours away) mentioned my face looks slimmer. Finally, someone in the family noticed I've been slimming down, but it's been so gradual, they never "noticed".29

Losing more fat off my upper body....I did a bulk for 4.5 months and now on my last week of cutting (a pretty intense 4 weeks, wouldn't do this again)... well the results are almost everything I wanted (visually and measurement wise) ...Now to set new goals which will start next week! :-)18

Three things that are really cool, to me at least:
Today, I went swimming for the first time in about a year. (I had to quit bc instead of it being a low-impact exercise I could do while I was working to heal my legs and back, it was actually making everything worse.) Today, I did 22 laps with a kick-board -- pretty slowly -- but so far so good. I'm really sore, but no pain.
Then, when I was getting changed I looked at myself in the mirror. I am beyond shocked by my arms. I mean, they look like "could be in a magazine arms" -- without flexing. I wonder if the rest of me will ever look like that?
This last one is scale-inspired, but I think if you've been at this a while you'll get it's also a NSV -- I am in single digits in terms of what I have left to lose. Just blows my mind that I'm nearly done with the deficit part.

When I got home from the gym today, I took my shirt off in the garage and stood on my driveway to cool off from a great workout. It doesn't sound like much but when you've been overweight and flabby your whole life, the act of standing shirtless outside is absolutely mortifying. Even a few weeks ago, I would have been afraid one of my neighbors would walk or drive by and seen me without my shirt. I'm seeing changes in my body and becoming more confident in my appearance which fuels my desire to continue to improve!45

I don't think that it will be possible to go any faster as although it's a steep hill, it's not very long.
I need to cycle out to my really big hill which is about an hour or so away and goes up (and therefore down again) nearly 1000 feet. Too hot today but Friday looks promising . . .25 -
I went to the gym for the first time in a month. I was prepared to be struggling and out of breath. I ended up doing 30 minutes on the elliptical without a water break! (never could do that before) and walking on the treadmill at an incline for 5 minutes than I usually could.27
