180 Days deep in this MFP logging. I have been struggling lately to keep going as an apparent partial tare in my left bicep tendon has turned my visual upper body gains around. I have been forced back to the treadmill. My scale also quit moving. The gains and the weight loss were what made me want to do this so all my motivation had vanished.
My NSV's are as follows:
1) A friend asked if I was on drugs (his jealous way of complimenting my loss)
2) I didn't quit even without any motivation
3) Sex with my wife of 19 Years is noticeably (by her )better. Can I say that?
4) Is a SV but... Scale has moved again!
6 months and 65 pounds down... Can't wait to see where I am at the year mark!26 -
Yesterday, I experienced a fairly significant NSV. My son's Boy Scout Troop went on a hike in a nearby state park. The trails in this particular park have a fair number of slopes and inclines; the last time I was at this park, a couple of the major inclines caused me to become winded, but not this time. I kept pace with the boys and adults who accompanied them for the entire three hour hike (it would have been a much longer hike, but the trails were icy and difficult to navigate).
Bonus NSV - normally after a day of hiking, I would have skipped my regular leg day workout in favor of something less strenuous, but I did my leg workout and it had the effect of easing some of the soreness I am experiencing from using all of those stabilizer muscles on the trail yesterday!22 -
I used to a have a gym membership years ago and went pretty regularly.. then I got pregnant and life got in the way so I canceled it, as I was just wasting money since I never went. Within the last year I've lost 30lbs by calorie counting and walking on lunch breaks and/or in the evenings. I decided last week it was time to get back into the gym. I haven't worked out (gone walking) much lately since it's Winter-time right now, and honestly I missed getting out of house and doing something for myself, even if it's only for 30 minutes a few times a week. So I joined a new gym last Friday and have gone every day since! Nothing extreme, just using the treadmill or stationary bike.. but it feels good to be going again!21

Fit into 38/32 regular fit jeans. My previous jeans were 44/32 relaxed fit and tight when I started almost a year ago.20

I actually hit the 7k mark going down my big hill but as I was going at 44mph decided not to stop for the photo
Over that distance I have:- gone through three pairs of tyres (currently on the 4th pair)
- had a new back wheel (old one was slightly buckled - thanks, potholes)
- had two new sets of brakes
- had a new chain
- had a new rear gear ring
- had a fair few punctures (haven't counted them all but had three in one day and the next day had the other tyre burst)
- wrecked two pairs of cycling gloves
- worn out several pairs of trousers
- worn out a pair of shoes
- have seen many things that I would otherwise not have EVER seen, mainly birds (rare-ish ones such as kingfishers and wrens) flowers and wildlife although I did also see a verge fire (had to call Fire & Rescue for that one)
- come across way too many idiots in cars who think that cyclists don't/shouldn't exist
- enjoyed (almost) every second of it.
To be able to say all of this after a lifetime of obesity is pretty amazing as well.
Just thought that I'd drop this here as these were so beautiful and it was such a lovely sunny day. Just a reminder that Spring is finally on it's way . . .
Oh, and add to that a new gear selector cable (?shift inner cable) which snapped today as I was trying to get up a hill, leaving me with a total of 3 gears (one in each range) to get home with
The NSV is that, instead of taking the car to get the replacement part, my son and I ran the 5k there and walked back. And there was enough daylight left to fit the cable and road test the bike afterwards, so I'm ready to go out again tomorrow
Not sure if this is an NSV or not, but the bloke in the store tried chatting me up. In. Front. Of. My. 14. Year. Old. Son. I was so embarrassed, once I realised what was going on (it took a while as I've not been "hit on" for decades).22 -
I haven't seen a dramatic weight loss yet, but I am feeling healthier and I am exercising now without being completely out of breath. I also created a healthy version of zuchinni muffins today to have as a snack and it has been two weeks since I have had chocolate.23

Variety exercise day today. Did an upper body workout, then walked 2 miles on the treadmill. After lunch had a leisurely bike ride with DH and then went for a quick run around the neighborhood.
Still under my calories today, so I think that glass of wine will taste good this evening.16 -
My blood pressure had plummeted to normal levels.23

with me to reduce the fat cells in my hips/butt/thighs were most of my fat is stored, but my body just ignores my request. I need to have a come to Jesus meeting with my fat cells
"Low priority areas" cracked me up because it's so true. I've lost about 70 pounds with more to go, and while I love that my wrists, fingers, knees, even nose all feel smaller and bonier I can't help but get frustrated that my upper arms still look like Christmas hams! I didn't start this because my fingers were fat, you know? Let's get it together, body.41 -
I had a ginger and mint tea tonight at a bar instead of a big glass of red wine, even though the friend I was with had some wine. Yay!!18

Just started the Keto diet a week ago. I have PCOS and insulin resistance because of it. I haven't had to take my metformin in 3 days!10

I went clothes shopping over the weekend and some of the items I bought are regular XL instead of plus sizes.27

I ate pizza with moderation!32

I didn’t binge eat after a very emotional and stressful night28

I can run 22 minutes without stopping now, on week 6 of couch to 5k Also, I just tried on a pair of jeans that is 2 sizes smaller that I used to wear a few years ago and they fit! Also, I had a Michael Kors watch that didn't fit around my wrist, that I tried on again today and it fits perfectly!25

I used to eat almost all my meals out, and now I’m (kinda) learning to cook. I still eat a lot more processed foods than I probably should, but tonight, I seared a tuna steak! (I’ve never seared anything on purpose!) I know that’s pretty easy, but I can count the number of times I’ve handled raw meat on one hand ... I just hate doing it. So I’m kind proud right now.

Yes - 3 months in and I noticed that my toes were skinnier. I actually had the discussion with my body about the high level of fat around my belly, maybe being more important to be rid of, heart disease, diabetes etc rather than skinny toes. But I don't think it listened! after a year and a bit, other people have said my belly has gotten smaller and I fit into smaller clothes, but it seems proportionally the same size to me! Ah well, at least I have skinny toes!31 -

I've only properly lost weight once before and that time the weight seemed to come off more or less the same as this time (only I've got a lot more to lose this time). But one section of my body is losing weirdly this time actually: my double chin is usually the first thing to come or go with any weight fluctuation—even a simple 5 pound gain or loss—but this time it's been hanging on quite stubbornly, which is not the best since it's a high-visibility zone. The sides of my face have slimmed some in 45 pounds but only in the last few pounds has the double chin itself has started to give way. Unfortunately it seems to be 'melting off' from the sides first and now my double chin is just big directly below the pointiest part of my chin. So ... I have a turkey gobble at the mo ...15 -

I started to swim again last summer and was appalled to realize that I was too heavy or too weak (probably some combo of both) to haul myself out of the pool / I had to exit from the ladder or stairs. I tried again yesterday and got my “kitten” out no problem. So now I can exit the pool where convenient for me!32

Started C25K for summer running early this year. I give up on running during the winter because I hate treadmill running. These early interval days on the treadmill are working out ok though! Hopefully I'll be road ready when the weather breaks in April13

I used to be addicted to McDonald's hot fudge sundaes. I felt like the drive-through people all knew me really well. I stopped going there (changing my route home from work helped!). Yesterday my 9-yr-old grandson asked to go get some fries. I planned on just getting an unsweetened iced tea but then caved and ordered the sundae. I literally could not eat it! I could have fit it into my calories for the day, but it just didn't taste very good to me! As much as I hated throwing the $$ away, I just drank my tea and then went home and had an apple with peanut butter--much more satisfying!!32

I've been drinking my coffee black for almost two weeks now.37

Literally sleep-walk ate frozen waffles last night. Logged them anyway!23

I was able to put the level of the elliptical much higher than where I started, and not reach peak heart rate zone. I love when I can quantitatively prove I've gotten more fit.20

Went and bought some dress shirts yesterday. Tried one on and it was super baggy. Took them back today and the employee measured me and said, I think a slim fit would fit you better. I was skeptical. Tried one on and lo and behold it fit me perfectly. I've gone from a 19 neck 3XL regular fit dress shirt to a 17 neck XL slim fit. I'm excited!36

Today I found an old jewelry box filled with beautiful necklaces that my husband had given me throughout our 35 years together. Unfortunately, over the years I had gained so much weight that they no longer fit me....until now. I'm so happy to be able to wear them again, and sadly, in some instances some for the very first time.49
