But I didn't quit. Today I could weigh myself or exactly track my intake since I've been away, but tonight I'm back home and back at going my workout. And I'm proud to say that today I did a full 30 seconds no stopping jumping jacks and I didn't die!!!!!! I haven't done any type of jumping for any amount of time for the last almost 8 years since I nearly lost my foot/half my lower leg in an accident.
I'm so proud of myself because it's (now I'm realizing) mostly fear that's been holding me back.
Even when it's hard, forward is the only way to go. I have to keep trying and fighting, otherwise my health will only get worse.
Thank you! It's very encouraging!
As for my NSV this time, my hands are getting their shape back. My fingers are always chubby looking even when I'm in my healthy weight range, but it seems like I lost the fat on the back of my hands. Ever since I first noticed a few hours ago I can't stop staring at them 😂
I feel like the weightloss is noticable from the toes/fingers when you lose a little and then all the way to the stomach when you lose a lot. My "big" bra doesn't fit properly anymore. I'm sure it will when TOM happens but I usually go up 2 cup sizes then 😵 I'm also starting to see more definition in my lower legs.
I know it's probably because it's the start of my journey but I notice little changes almost every other day. It's very motivating10 -
A dress that was too tight a couple a weeks ago now fits, as well as some work clothes that I bought ages ago!22

I got on my bike and went for a ride last night and tonight, despite desperately not wanting to on either day. The rides were both a struggle, and super buggy, and I only went about 5 miles each day, but who cares! I did it! That's a victory right there.26

Went to see the doctor yesterday. He commended me for my weight loss. But even better he went through all the blood work, and vitals. He said I was one of the healthiest of his patients. (But I must add that I do have a bad knee that sometimes limits what I can do.)23

After stopping and starting calorie restricting quite a few times (and putting on a few stress pounds thanks to moving and the pandemic) I am back in it. This week has been a good one, and the extra protein I'm eating is really helping keep me satiated. I have high hopes that in the next six months I will be able to finish meeting the goals I set in 2018. I have the muscular base. Now I will let go of the fluff!16

I noticed some new muscle bumps on my thighs yesterday. Usually they have been covered too well to see that kind of thing.15

After a 3 year hiatus from serious running (15K in 2017 was my last running success) and a year of rehab - I completed the Zombies Run virtual 5K last night -- realistically the zombies would have eaten me -- maybe not the shamblers - but I ran the entire thing without stopping and without much pain either24

You'll never believe what I just did! I had both hands full, and I got up off the couch with NO HANDS. Not even a hand on the thigh for leverage. I simply stood up.43

Increased my weights for leg day today!
40s were for Squats, Sumo Squats, Deadlifts, and Calf Raises.
20s were for Alternating Reverse Lunge and Alternating Side Lunge.
3 x 10 on all.
Leg day is by far my favorite day.20 -
I hope this isn't out of place. It's weight related, and maybe even scale related, but for me it's a NSV because it represents, I hope, a different attitude that will help me continue with success on my journey. Apologies for the length.
I had a moment of insight yesterday that I hope will help me feel better about my goal and where I am relative to it.
I was trying to fix some wind chimes and a cast iron bell. I had to make new sails, and I was looking in my tackle box for some weight. Somehow, the fishing license I bought one year while in grad school was still taped inside. That's not quite 30 years ago, but really close. I only fished one of the three years I was in grad school; I caught some hatchery fish in a reservoir, and it really wasn't very exciting. I focused on other activities. But for some reason I actually looked at the document yesterday. Needs new tape. But it showed my weight. It was two pounds above what I have set as my ultimate goal, and it was smack in the middle of what I now call my maintenance range. Wait. What?
I doubt I was shaving pounds when I got that license, but it's possible I was a hair heavier than it says. A couple years later, I got a drivers license in the state I currently live, and I listed my weight about five pounds heavier. Ten years later, ten pounds heavier. Eight years after that, nine pounds heavier. Seems like it was about a pound a year. I hear that can happen.
I got to my heaviest a couple years after that. I was probably heavier than I listed on the license, but was in denial. My heaviest was another six or seven pounds up from what it said. That was seven years ago when I sort of decided to do something about it. I lost in fits and starts for about four years. I was losing VERY slowly. Then three years ago or so I got serious and got to my initial goal weight in about ten months. Along the way, I decided to lower my goal to what it is now. My original goal all that time was.... One pound more than what I just read on that fishing license. My final goal was a couple pounds below it, but now I think I'm just going to use THAT goal, my weight in grad school, as my ultimate goal weight. I'm keeping my maintenance ranges. The goal still fits.
My hope is that I keep being kind to myself even if that, possibly overzealous, goal I set a while ago remains just out of reach. It's ok.
Edited to fix a typo.20 -
I wore a 2 piece bathing suit IN PUBLIC for the first time since high school!! It has been long journey for me. I lost most of my weight in 2011 then had another baby then life happened for a few years. The past year I’ve really been working on toning and strength and I’m ecstatic to look back and see how far I’ve come 😊
Here is a collage I made back when I lost all the weight and here I am last week 😜

I have had issues with my left shoulder for a while, but during lockdown, since I could not swim, I bought a set of light gym hand weights and have been doing a set of exercises for arms and shoulders most days, to try to build up strength and movement. I started out with the 0.5 kg for all three sets (or even no weights at all on bad days!). Then I swapped to using the 1kg weights for the middle set for a while. Then the 1kg weights for the first and second and the 0.5kg for the third. Today I used the 1kg weights for all three and my shoulder is absolutely fine. I realise that those who lift weights seriously will find this ridiculous but for me it is a real milestone. I plan now to stick with 1kg for three sets for the next week and then move to the 1.5kg weights for the middle set.21

That's wonderful progress! Besides, most folks lift understand light rehab weights. I think it's fantastic that you've made such an improvement for yourself.
NSV for me: My bathing suit is... even looser.13 -
It's 85 degrees outside and I'm somehow not that hot. I am drinking nice cold water, but that used to not make such a difference. I used to suffer in anything above 80.16

Ran a mile w my 10 yo son after my walk to help him get started training for cross country. 7:50 min, and I was actually ahead of him the whole time until his final sprint! We have some work to do, but a decent start.19

NSV: I'm able to do a regular stiff leg deadlift instead of a sumo. Previously, my gut was too much in the way.12

Im learning to run for the first time in my life (and on hills no less). This weekend I ran for a total of a mile up and down hill (out of the 4 miles) and I did it in the rain.17

I failed on my 275 lb squat this morning and didn't let it get in my head. I rested and came back and got it the next time!

I ran my first 5k since 2018 today! I could barely run more than a minute at a time in February so I’m thrilled with my progress 😁17

I realized I can touch my toes again, and the floor in front of me while keeping my legs straight, so I did so many the other day it gave me DOMS.14

Picture Number 1: My old clothes that no longer fit me and are ready for the donation bin.
Picture Number 2: some new, size Small workout clothes. Wahoo! I can still hardly believe that I’m a small in anything.

I discovered this evening that I can put my palms flat on the floor with my legs straight. I have NEVER been able to do this (or not since I was about five years old). This means that I am currently more flexible than I have been for over fifty years!

I need to work on this, I have zero flexibility! I can’t even touch my feet.7 -
So maybe not a massively inspiring one but a couple of months ago my toddler said I looked like I ate too many cakes (he got some idea at nursery that too much food makes you fat and we were like no sweetie food is fine and cake is ok its only too much cake). He stuck to this and said daddy didn't (I mean the boy was not wrong). It made me a bit sad even though it's irrational.
Today it came up again and he said I didn't look like I ate too many cakes. Whoop!25 -
I was able to walk around the block without sitting down for the first time in decades!

I'm at the 14-day mark, last night I walked a mile in 12 minutes without feeling out of breath. My blood pressure has held at normal levels for the past 4 days and my oxygen levels are up! Since I am doing this for my health, this means more to me than inches!23
