    ...pointless topics...bash...shame...

For someone complaining about the lack of civility, you sure use a lot of judgemental words.

I understand when people are doing dangerous stuff for sure. But I think what it really boils down to is some people are frustrated to see others losing weight and they aren't so they lash out at them.

    Nope.

Quite the opposite, please link the threads in question where this has occured.

A lot of the reason the "mean people" aren't losing is because they are bulking or maintaining.

Is it possible, and hear me out here because I'm about to get crrraaazy, but...but is it possible that different people use the forums...for different things?

Right? I know. I just blew your mind.

    tumblr_mp0oyeUuAv1snfsquo1_400.gif

Couldn't agree more with Achrya's point.

A this Gif  Just spectacular!!!

Are these 'people are mean' breeding exponentially???

Seems as though they are often generated due to an over reaction by the Op at the time and usually pointed squarely in the direction of the "Veterans" on the forums. Hand-in-hand with the Veterans 'meanness' is their leaning towards wanting to hear the scientific evidence to back the Op's claims/assertions......often this of course leads to the wonderful expression of butt-hurt (learn something everyday) and tears, because there is no evidence only the experience of the OP.

Whilst it is your prerogative to use your body to test out the latest Pill, Cleanse, LCD, 300 calories for a year to come onto MFP and say how wonderful it was, how much weight you lost etc etc is NOT.

When a question in the forum does truly go Pear shaped, (I've had it happen to me) it is dealt with promptly, often by the same so-called 'meanies' calling out those crossing the line, then the Moderators step in and do what is required....Why is it necessary to start another thread to let everyone know that hurt/upset/need soothing with chocolate or whatever has occurred?? What can this possibly achieve??

This behaviour is just perpetuating a continuation of discord. Everyone is not here for the same thing or with the same beliefs and this site does NOT promote unsafe eating practices or condone gimmicks etc etc. People wanting validation of the latest craze or support for LCD are going to be called out .....rightly so. As someone said early on there are many people here, young, desperate, new to weight loss and nutrition that could easily fail prey to unsafe methods.

This is a great point - I know for a fact the "mean people" threads have now effected the way I act in other threads.

I just realized this when someone posted about people joining her "don't eat after 8:30" group. In the group it even says "It is well established eating after 8:30 causes obesity" (or something similar).

I feel 99.9% sure that isn't true. I have read a lot on the very subject. I just attended a conference by Alan Aragon himself who has written one of the most popular studies on the topic of nutrient timing... I have read said study front to back...

But I barely challenged the person. Now I see other people going in there and asking how to join group and how they thought it was actually no eating after 6pm. etc... And I just think to myself "not worth it".

Saw another "Poisonous sugar" thread too - but once again thought "why bother".

Now I am no nutritional guru - but if all the "mean people" (many who are far smarter and knowledgeable than me) start feeling that way - this forum is going to devolve into a real crapfest.

    1. The 900th thread posted for the same damned thing, and someone can't be bothers to @#$%ing use the search function.

MFP guidelines: "a) Do not attack, mock, or otherwise insult others. You can respectfully disagree with the message or topic, but you cannot attack the messenger. This includes attacks against the user’s spelling or command of written English, or belittling a user for posting a duplicate topic."

I get that when you have been here a while it gets tedious to see the same questions or "wrong ideas" discussed over and over again. I suspect that is why we get so many snarky unhelpful responses. Even the good guys get tired of explaining the same thing over and over. But it's helpful for us to participate in a conversation first hand.

OP creates pointless topic that is guaranteed to stir controversy about other people posting pointless topics with the intention of stirring controversy. Metatrolling??

Yeah I don't buy that at all. The people who often get branded "mean" on here are often the people who have the least reason to be jealous.

Confidence from their success is read as arrogance, bluntness in their responses is read as rudeness.
This is also what I've experienced. When I came here last year, I listened to some of those people who I thought were rude, but it turned out most of them had some great information to share. I befriended a lot of those people too.

Some of the topics posted here are baffling, sad, confusing. The ones that are most irritating to me are : "can I eat ______ calories day and be okay?" and "I eat ____ calories and I'm so full I can't meet my calorie goals".

To people who post the above subjects: there is absolutely no reason to deprive yourself while losing weight. If there are certain foods you don't want to eat, fine, don't eat them. If you want to eat paelo, keto, low fat, etc. etc, then more power to you, but make sure you meet your calorie goals so that you properly fuel your body. And, don't get upset when people tell you the truth about the science of weight loss. While all of us are different due to lifestyles and activity levels, none of us are special snowflakes when it comes to calories in/out.

If people can't handle criticism, debate or sarcasm from a total stranger on a forum how the hell do they handle it from family friends or in the work place.

The world is not always a nice place take the good stuff and ignore the bad

I always keep a pair of big girl panties nearby just in case.

Speaking of big girl panties everytime I see your profile picture I think its a woman bent over with her pants falling down until it dawns on me that it is your armpit.

I just spent 5 minutes squinting at my profile pic until I suddenly saw what you meant. :noway: You are freaking warped. I like it.

Perverts the lot of you. :grumble:
I thought it was a leg at first, and if you look at it a certain way....it IS a leg!

Seriously, nice work on your arms (I assume the other arm looks the same)

This is a community full of many types of people who have many different objectives. They're not all going to conform to your personal view on how this forum should be used. You probably don't conform to everyone's view of how it should be used either.
You mean like creating a thread in a forum where it doesn't belong instead of putting it where the subject would be appropriate?

To be fair, there isn't a "butthurt" forum.

I drink a beer in your honor, you.

Why are you quoting me then posting a non-relevant bit of "guidelines?"

No one was belittled. Now, if someone gets all sandy bottom over it, boo hoo. Every time people get sandy bottom over this, Memet Oz wins. DO YOU WANT OZ TO WIN?

Why don't we just validate them, let them do their thing, and then when it fails, they can come back ready for new knowledge.

You might appreciate how I describe straight razor shaving.
It's where you take a knife, pray to god, press it against your throat until those jihadist beard hairs give up and surrender.

As part of their surrender, they commit suicide and fall off your face.

This is how a patriot fights ISIS.

    In.....

I swear "mean" people threads are addicting......OP please enlighten me on these jealous meanies you speak of.

These threads have become so abundant, "meany" is almost a synonym for veteran. Everyone uses the forums, people will not like all answers they get, and many will hate the delivery...... Not the problem of the person delivering the message. Many times the OP themselves are the first to get rude, and the majority of the time the "mean" person could careless if the OP gets the message, instead they want truth and facts on the thread so that if a noob is reading....they get correct info.

What was the belief in starting this thread? Calling the people that have no issue posting or stating their opinions out.....well that is not going to end in whatever desired outcome you may have hoped for.

Just to make the statement..... Most of the "mean" people are the most helpful, knowledgeable, funny, successful, and kind people on MFP.

Also, please reread the OP.....the hypocrisy is glaring. :drinker:
