Chicks be like "Lifting heavy weights makes me get bulky"

I don't like the quote feature and I'm not going to use it. You can't make me!
I like it.
I never said I thought it was easy to get bulky. Just that I wouldn't want to look as bulky as some. Personal preference. It doesn't make me, like, dumb. As is usually implied when women say they don't want to bulk up.0 -
Did I say that? I'm not sure why someone saying they don't want to look bulky always causes a bad reaction. Confusing.
Yeah, I totally agree. Just to clear up: I know it's hard to build muscle. Really hard. The posts that get me are the 'I've been eating 1200 calories a day and walking a lot but gaining weight - am I building muscle?' Smh.
Still, too bulky means different things to different people.0 -
I'm going to play devil's advocate here. There IS such thing as 'too bulky'. Not everyone wants to look the same. While I have a lot of respect for strong women who can lift heavy weights, I also see a lot of women who *I* would consider 'too bulky'...for my liking. What's wrong with wanting to look a little less defined?
For the record, I lift as heavy as possible. BUT I'm a little tired of hearing people mock women who don't want to look like some people think they should want to look.

Unless those women are working out in order to fit into your definition for some reason (you're paying them as models for your product, they are trying to garner a romantic/sexual relationship with you) then they are not too bulky. The only person who can be legitimately too bulky would be yourself. Since I don't think any women are trying to mold their physiques to your desires, you're going to have to focus solely on yourself.
And no one in this thread or any of the other 'bulky' threads are mocking people who have a different personal aesthetic for themselves UNLESS they use disparaging terminology such as: gross, manly, masculine, gnarly, etc.0 -

I agree with you, to be honest.
I like this too

As far as I'm concerned, there is such a thing as 'too bulky', and I don't find that hard to get there, as a matter of fact, I find my arms and shoulders too bulky already... But in the end it's really just a matter of opinion, although my guess is that it has more to do with genetics than training, but who knows.0 -
Here's a video of some girls who move some serious weight and look good doing it!

Am I the only one that thinks some of them could lower the weight and improve their form? I am definitely impressed by what they are doing just don't want people injuring themselves.
Yea, we don't want people doing 1 rep max lifts. Too dangerous . . .
I just saw a few issues with form is all. I didn't say there was anything wrong with them testing their limits. I just don't think form should be sacrificed. Maybe that's just me... shrugs.
What is it they say about those who can, do; and those who can't....
Or those we pre- existing back and knee conditions have to be a bit more careful. I definitely respect these women and hope to progress to their level. I just tend to be more particular with my form. Everyone doesn't have my issues though and it's probably not as big a deal for them :-)
When you are as strong as these women then your opinion will be valid. Until then, it is not.0 -
Calm down, I watched the video. I was referring to the general attitude of 'pssh, they think they can get bulky, hahaha.'
Sometimes it's better to just keep your mouth shut. Nomsayin?0 -
Interesting watching the spotters, I just lift all by myself in my basement, are those weightlifting pals or do they work for the place?
They appear to be team mates. I belong to one of the larger teams in Ontario and when we train as a team we can have up to 15 people. We all spot and load for each other. We also watch for depth on squats, critique form and also take the piss out of each other. If you plan to compete, training with a team is ideal.0 -
I do bulk up. I recomp easily. I don't care if anyone doesn't believe it. I have pictures to prove it and I have posted blogs in the past with said pics. I am fine with looking this way, so that's not the issue. My issue is that everyone says "women don't build muscle easily." Some do. I do. If most don't, great, but a few do. I am 168-172 on any given day and have stayed roughly the same weight (4 pounds down and lost about 6% BF this year with no bulk and cut cycle). Every day someone (usually 3-5 people) at work asks me what's up with my arms these days (I work with the public) and for example, yesterday a random dude at a gas station stopped me and told me I looked "yoked up." I hear "yoked" a lot. It's weird as a woman to be addressed as "yoked." :noway: My BF is in the healthy range, although optimally it would be about 5% less. I'd like to keep my boobs though!0

^^^^This. Powerlifting and body building are two different things. I love this video BTW and have watched it lots of times. Few PL inspiration vids out there for women. Love it!0 -
