I am censored from commenting on this post as well!
DESPITE the First Amendment....
My point is that the first amendment does not apply outside of America!!!
And even if this were a strictly US site, the first amendment only applies to the GOVERNMENT infringing on the rights of the citizenry, not a private enterprise establishing rules on conduct for its users. If you don't like the TOS, don't use the product.0 -

My friend started a vlcd. I don't comment on it because she doesn't listen anyway and just tells me I'm being crazy for eating 1600-1800 calories while losing.
The interesting part is, she knows her maintenance calories, and she said once she's lost the weight on this 700-800 calorie diet (which is actually 1200 but she exercises some away) She will eat at her goal maintenance.
Do you think she will keep it off? She thinks if she just increases slowly to maintenance she won't gain. I don't know about such things. Never really tried it. I like to eat too much. She's been doing it for 2 months already. :ohwell:
There are people here who say that they've eaten below their BMR and even below the 1200 calories and then successfully maintained. I'm sure it's possible.
However, stats show that around 95% of diets fail over the long-term and there are very real reasons why an extreme calorie cut would make it more likely to fail.
And why would you want to? I successfully lost 20% of my original body weight without feeling deprived or really even that hungry most of the time. Why would I want to do something where I was miserable and probably binging periodically to lose that same amount of weight? Especially since I'd have ended up being more unhapppy with my end-weight due to lost muscle mass.0 -

This. This is why VLCD diets are a bad idea. You'll find yourself posting garbage on internet forums.
It's called hangry, people. DON'T DO IT.0 -
Why do I think people do it? Many people want a quick fix and most VLCD plans promise that.
That said, years ago a coworker and I tried one. We lasted 10 days and our other coworkers started begging us to eat - we both became highly irritable, had no energy and were kind of crazy. I lost 7lbs and she lost 10 IIRC but we gained it back plus some in the weeks that followed.
I think shows like The Biggest Loser and Extreme Weight Loss contribute to the quick fix idea too - when someone loses 200lbs in a year or 100lbs in 16 weeks it makes it seem like it's something the average Joe who needs to drop 20lbs can do in a couple weeks. There's a huge difference between trainer assisted, nutritionist assisted weight loss for the super morbidly obese and some guy with a treadmill and some plan they got off the internet.
Just my opinion.0 -

There are really two answers to this IMO so,
YES if she gradually increases to maintainence AND sticks to it the weight will stay off. Any metabolic 'damage' caused by dieting quickly reverses itself once you start to add more calories. I am basing this answer on personal experience (and from hearing others experience the same thing). I bulked for around 8 weeks after climbing gradually to maintainence (based on online calculators) and sitting there for a couple of weeks. Once you start to add a calorie surplus you have to keep increasing that surplus to still get a weight gain. I have found that, contrary to popular belief, this is a fast process - over 8 weeks I had to increase (the original surplus) twice.
NO if you come off your VLCD and go crazy binging on all the stuff you've deprived yourself of, giving yourself a very large calorie surplus, then the weight isn't going to stay off.0 -

Not true -- you can say whatever you'd like. Just because you don't like the response doesn't mean you can't voice your opinion.
I think she is referring to being heavily moderated in what she says because she supports some of these unhealthy eating habits.
Seriously I think it's better for people not to engage with that one. Huge issues there beyond the scope of the average MFP member
Agreed. Moon-Moon lady seems very nice, but some, nay ALL of her posts are MFP gold.
My only concern is for people who are new & don't realize that if you take this literally....
you're gonna have a bad time

Your metabolism slows waaaay down
Your body starts fearing for its life and holds on to everything it can to preserve its life
Becoming increasingly malnourished...your hormones get screwed up and your mood/general outlook on life gets weird.
Then when you eat normal calories again you instantly gain a few pounds and freak out.
I like nothing about starving. I tried it and it sucked. I lost 15lbs of pure muscle and still looked exactly as fat as i did when I started the starve.
Sorry not true. Body starts fearing for its life? lol0 -

I'd never be able to do it regardless. I'm almost starving on 1600 some days...800 is like...one meal...Lol.0 -
Thought I'd better just clarify: I wasn't coming off a VLCD when I bulked.
I have lost on a (protein sparing)VLCD before and put back on most of the weight, by eating like a pig again0 -

Pringle's and bean dip.
But it is stressed on the forums to eat what you want in moderation. She wants to eat Pringles and bean dip so is basically doing what the forums tells her to. I don't know whether she eats VLCD or not and don't care. Neither should you.0 -

She isn't eating that in moderation, that is all she eats. Along with diet pop. She posted it as her meal in one of the what is for supper threads.
I don't care what she eats, but she does eat a VCLD and has proclaimed herself the "voice of reason" on the forums to promote starvation diets.
A lot of people are concerned about what she is promoting, not what she is eating. She is not eating in moderation, she is not promoting health. And what she is promoting is against the TOS of this site.0 -

Yes well...I get critized for eating one ice cream cone...or one slab of chocolate...or a gallon of ice cream...while losing weight and yes...I AM losing. Lol0 -
Always amazed to see people do VLCD's.
Me too, at this point, I just think it's wise as a community if we say, good luck, and await updates.0 -

Yeah which is what I do with my friend mentioned above. I just tell her I'm glad it's working for her.
I've really tried to influence her to eat more. But she wouldn't listen. So I have no guilt on my conscience.0 -
Highlighted the important part...the poster of that nonsense feels it is more important to have "big boobs" than to lose weight and have them possibly sag...

Some people just gotta do it their way, and best of luck to them.
If I like a person, I might give a mild suggestion or two. If I don't like a person, I'll give them a recipe for 42 calories shirataki noodle mac and cheese.0 -
