Pringle's and bean dip.
But it is stressed on the forums to eat what you want in moderation. She wants to eat Pringles and bean dip so is basically doing what the forums tells her to. I don't know whether she eats VLCD or not and don't care. Neither should you.
Yes well...I get critized for eating one ice cream cone...or one slab of chocolate...or a gallon of ice cream...while losing weight and yes...I AM losing. Lol
You see...this works. But it works better when you can look at the person and say "I've lost 50 pounds. I think I know what I'm doing." Don't worry, keep doing what you're doing and you'll get there.0 -

I didn't realize that answers only counted as honest if you agreed with them...
...and you've been here for 6 months. :flowerforyou:
And that changes the validity of my statement?
I think I realized that was the state of affairs on these forums during my second week.0 -

Are you telling me that an adult is less likely to enjoy a balanced diet than a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old?0 -
I think it's a combination of things.
- You don't learn portion control so when you go back to normal you eat the large portions again.
- You don't learn to make better choices such as swapping over little things.
- You lose muscle which burns more cals than fat
- Your body's system gets screwed up and can't cope when you go back to normal
But I will probably be told all of this is wrong.
I agree with every word of this.
Adding one more thing: Your body will not appreciate it and you will come out of it ravenous. Like hungrier than you ever thought you could feel in your life. But then again it's possible this happens, at least to some extent, whenever you lose a fair amount of weight. But still, it seems I remember from my clueless yo-yo dieting days that it was even worse when I was coming off a long stint of very low calories. I could eat a lot when I weighed 245, but my biggest pig outs happened when I was yo yo dieting and had just gotten back into my favorite jeans. Which of course promptly stopped fitting again. I remember an incident involving two of those family sized pounder hamburgers...I may or may not have eaten both in a sitting. I'm quite sure they were both gone before dinner.0 -

Uh uh. All of them are forced to get vaccinated. And some of them are pumped full of antibiotics. Plus, as apex predators, humans concentrate several hundred toxic chemicals in their bodies even before they are born. Very unhealthy.
(By the way, it's really sad, but that last part is true. We've fouled our nest so badly that babies are swimming in chemical soup before they're even born.)0 -
I like food to much to starve myself like that, but that's just my opinion.

DESPITE the First Amendment....
My point is that the first amendment does not apply outside of America!!!
Nor does it apply to non-governmental bodies (exception for discrimination as described in the Equal Rights Act) within the US. That's why we can't post our noodz or say curse words or promote business activity. Just sayin'0 -

No, I am not telling you that. What I am telling you is you shouldn't care what she chooses to eat. Honestly, I haven't checked her diary and have no desire to do so. Some trolls are very good at what they do including fabricating facts like diary entries. I'm not saying she is but I am saying that could be a possibility. Keep in mind, just because it is in the diary that you see does not necessarily make it true. Keep in mind that a diary full of those types of entries does get a lot more attention than one filled with nutrient rich foods especially for those looking for the drama. If it is true, it still doesn't matter to anyone else if she wants to exist on Pringles and bean dip. Why anyone would want to do so is a mystery but stranger things do happen.0 -

You mentioned that her diet "is basically doing what the forums tells her to."
I think that the assumption of the forums is that we are providing our insights to rational adults - that is, people who enjoy eating a variety of foods both those that are seen as stereotypically "healthy" and not.
You seem to think that adults only find foods palatable that are not very nutrient dense. I was just questioning this based on my experience with pre-schoolers. Even adults who have texture issues and can only eat a limited selection of foods tend to eat a more balanced diet.
What I'm taking issue with is the idea that a 600 calorie diet that doesn't support the nutritional minimums of a healthy adult is "doing what the forums tell her to do."0 -

You are making a lot of assumptions. No one knows whether or not they are dealing with a rational person in an online forum. You can hope but can never be sure. I did not say anything about palatable foods so don't put words into my mouth. I said, if that is what she wants to eat, it is none of your concern. The forums certainly do tell you to eat what you want in moderation. Some folks actually come across as bragging for losing weight while eating a diet consisting solely of junk food. A rational person could take that as to eat what you want and still lose weight, exactly as it is meant. The fact that she chooses to want to eat Pringles and bean dip is a moot point. She is eating exactly what she wants and is losing weight exactly as promoted in the forums.
Now, with respect to a 600 calorie diet. I'm taking you at your word that is what she is doing or says she is doing. I could not agree with you more however what she says she is doing and what she is actually doing may be two very different things. It is not something to promote even if it is untrue! At any rate what she does with her body is up to her.0 -

I have better things to do with my time than check out member's diaries. I also have no interest in doing so. You would have no idea she was eating VLCD without checking either. The fact she has her diary open reinforces that she is either attention seeking or trolling. At any rate, yes 600-800 calories a day would be considered VLCD.0 -

As one other person said, if someone is going to be promoting certain things, I'm going to look to see what's going on. It's fine if you don't want to look into someone's diary, but trying to wag a finger at those that did some research and speak out against the advocating of something that's potentially dangerous and definitely unhealthy is rather :huh:0 -

The people who brag of losing weight while eating a diet consists of highly palatable foods with low nutrient density (popularly called junk food), do not brag of eating solely junk food. If you disagree with this, show me where somebody has said "I only eat pop tarts" and not "I ate three pop tarts this morning." Because if we are talking about poptarts, we're talking about Jonnythan, who also eats like 8 servings of vegetables a day. Most people making these claims have open diaries and you can clearly see the fact that they eat a pretty balanced diet.
The thing is, if you have a reasonable calorie goal, you can get your nutritional requirements on a fraction of your calorie needs. Especially if you are eating Dark Chocolate for the iron and magnesium.
In terms of the post that started this debate, this poster is complaining of being heavily moderated in the face of her support for a VLCD that is clearly against the terms of service of the website. I took the Pringles reference as an alert to the rest of us of the poster's identity as the vegan who has posted throughout the forums about how she uses cigarettes to control her appetite and eats a 600 calorie diet, thus trumping the rest of us fools who exercise.
If you are saying that the "eat what you want in moderation" message (which is clearly NOT "eat nothing but junk food" ) supports her weight loss strategies, you are clearly mistaken.0 -

True. But a lot of MFP's biggest poptart pushers (kidding, I love you guys anyway!) are extremely buff, clearly work out regularly and hard, often have active jobs, are young, and most seem to be male.
They have much higher caloric needs than for example, my little sedentary skinnyfat 5'3 old woman self. Which means they can get all their nutritious foods in every day and still eat tons of junkfood.
Good for them. But not for me.0 -

Actually, I see the biggest poptart pushers (aka eat in moderation people) are actually a good mix of genders, most in their 30's and 40's (some even older too), and have sedentary jobs. The only difference, really, is that they choose to work out in order to be fit. And by workout, I don't mean necessarily balls out/hardcore run a 10k or do 2 hours at the gym 5 days a week thing..but 30-45 minutes 3-5 days a week of whatever exercise they choose - including just going out on a walk.0 -

To get all my nutrients, even with a multivitamin, and then have one serving of what was until yesterday my favorite ice cream and cupcake combination for dessert, I'd have to burn off approximately 500 calories (I do like large portion sizes, and to me that is practicing moderation, what I'd actually eat would require a much bigger investment).
In an hour of walking I burn 150 calories, maybe, if I walk fast? So nope, wouldn't work for me. But after yesterday I learned I feel physically much better without ice cream and cake anyway, so I don't mind.0 -

Is she really promoting VLCDs or is it more perceived that she is promoting them? I'm on the forums a lot. I've seen post from here mainly saying 'check out my profile and if you like what you see, send a FR'. Until today, that is all I saw from her then the "First Amendment" comments of today. So someone has checked out her diary and put two and two together then extrapolating to her promoting VLCDs when in fact she is only presumably eating one. I still maintain that unless she was actively promoting VLCDs then what or how much she eats is no one's business. If someone is concerned that an unhealthy weight loss method is being promoted, it should be reported. Obviously, she is still allowed to post to the forums so if reported has either stopped or she wasn't promoting in the first place. The whole issue becomes a non-issue with a closed diary and staying within what is allowed on the forums. If that is not an option, not participating in the forums is always an option.0 -
The people who brag of losing weight while eating a diet consists of highly palatable foods with low nutrient density (popularly called junk food), do not brag of eating solely junk food.
But not for me.
Extremely buff - yes. It's less inspiring for somebody like me to mention my candy consumption. I do it anyway but nobody notices.
Work out regularly - yes. Consistency is key. However, the 30-45 minutes five days a week that is the recommended minimum of vigorous activity is more than sufficient to get into whatever shape you desire as long as you aren't diddling around with stuff that doesn't work. If you aren't meeting the goal of 30 minutes of vigorous activity a week, you clearly should be for your own health.
Often have active jobs - need for you to provide an example, because all the ones I can think of are pencil pushing professionals.
Seem to be male - LOL. No. No, not at all. I'll link to the gelato cleanse thread if you want a whole list of petite females who support their activity with a varied and delicious diet.0 -

Actually, I see the biggest poptart pushers (aka eat in moderation people) are actually a good mix of genders, most in their 30's and 40's (some even older too), and have sedentary jobs. The only difference, really, is that they choose to work out in order to be fit. And by workout, I don't mean necessarily balls out/hardcore run a 10k or do 2 hours at the gym 5 days a week thing..but 30-45 minutes 3-5 days a week of whatever exercise they choose - including just going out on a walk.
But after yesterday I learned I feel physically much better without ice cream and cake anyway, so I don't mind.
Well, that's up to you if you don't want to do that. For me, I'd either put in the work or eat smaller portions. I've actually found that I'm happier not consuming large amounts of a dessert even if I have the calories to do so.
In this case, it'd be what works for you best situation (don't hurt me peeps!) but at the same time, trying to say those who eat a certain way (poptarts) can only be (or the majority are) the young, the buff, or/and those with active jobs is not only stereotyping, but just incorrect.0 -

That's because you eat VLCD!!!
Pringle's and bean dip.
But it is stressed on the forums to eat what you want in moderation. She wants to eat Pringles and bean dip so is basically doing what the forums tells her to. I don't know whether she eats VLCD or not and don't care. Neither should you.
Even my kids would eat a more balanced diet than Pringles and bean dip when allowed to eat "Anything they wanted"
Last night, I gave up and let them roam free. They ate apples, bananas, blueberries, goldfish crackers, rice and corn on the cob. And like one bite of chicken apiece. And an oreo.
Are you telling me that an adult is less likely to enjoy a balanced diet than a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old?
Why anyone would want to do so is a mystery but stranger things do happen.
What I'm taking issue with is the idea that a 600 calorie diet that doesn't support the nutritional minimums of a healthy adult is "doing what the forums tell her to do."
At any rate what she does with her body is up to her.
I'd take no issue with what's in her diary (wouldn't even know what's in her diary since I rarely even check my friends') except that she's the self-proclaimed "voice of reason" of the forums and she regularly promotes VLCDs. People who ask about doing vlcd type "diets" get a "You go for it! Don't let the naysayers get you down" from her.
She gets around being reported because she avoids directly telling them 1000cals and less are okay. I'm more worried about those she gets to friend her because I can only imagine what kind of advice and support she's giving them. And it's from comments like she makes in regards to VLCD is how she's making friends.0 -

I have foods that I like to consume in mass quantities as well. Sushi springs to mind. At least 1100 calories, so probably comparable with your dessert.
I eat a chirashi bowl about once every two months.0 -

No, I don't see where she is being censored. If she wrote a post on that topic and it was removed, then yes but I haven't seen it. It's quite clear that unhealthy weigh loss methods are not to be discussed in the forums. I support that decision each time I decide to use the forums. Posting means accepting the terms of posting. So, am I being censored? I don't feel like I am even though I know there are certain things I should not talk about on the forums. This is all up to MFP. I can see their point of view and I can see where open discussion about certain banned topics would be a positive for the community.0
