  • DeguelloTex, word travels by mouth, her friend sent her a picture saying about the effects if diet. It's probably Not true perhaps, it's all about what you believe and I believe that chemicals should not be pumped into our bodies, they cause cancer. Did your great great grandma die by cancer? Likelihood, no. Because back in those days there was no such thing as processed food and nothing came easy. Dinner took hours to prepare and Everyone was happier. I believe depression is caused by not eating well, and not getting enough vitamins. My family suffer with depression, non of them eat well and I would say I eat moderately well. However, until the other day I always felt tired, and I thought it's just because I worked too hard, but it's because I don't get enough iron. It makes sense in my case. I don't believe in chemicals. My boyfriend found on the internet that beef burgers are red because of a gas pumped into them called amiona which causes cancer. You don't know what your eating or drinking. Our bodies weren't designs for to substain chemicals

Cancer has been around for a long time, we just didn't have the technology or know how until modern times about how to find it or know how to treat it. Before a lot of people just got sick & died without knowing why, and some of those people had cancer, they just didn't know it. People live longer now days because of modern medicine, not dying sooner because of "chemicals" that modern science has deemed safe.

Water is a chemical. You know that, right?

You, and your friend, and your boyfriend could stand to do some reading at more reputable sites.

I didn't think Diet Sunkist had caffeine...I tried to stop drinking caffeine in January but still drank Diet Sunkist...duh on my part.

PS...like the OP who wants to give up caffeine for individual reasons I am not advocating what anyone else should do. I have in the past had a significant Diet Pepsi addiction and recently had started drinking (IMO) too much Coke Zero. I still have the occasional Diet Dr. Pepper or apparetnly Diet Sunkist.

    No caffeine :glasses: :drinker:

Beef burgers are red because they're made of beef.....

What happens when you cook a steak rare? It's red on the inside isn't? Same with venison. It's why it's called 'red' meat.

beef is red because, like us, their blood and muscle tissue contain iron... the same iron you indicated you were lacking.

    Oh dear

So much nonsense in one paragraph

Some of it already addressed by other posters - I would add that 'everyone was happier' is complete nonsense.
A simple delve into history reveals suicides, mentions of 'melancholy' ie what we now call depression.

Also, whilst I accept not getting enough iron is a common cause of tiredness - how does this relate to diet sodas????
Nobody is suggesting they are a source of iron.
Neither is that healthy, natural drink known as water.

There are some hilarious posts in here.

Fun Facts: Water can kill you, your body contains chemicals, and natural doesn't always mean better or healthy in any way.

I mean sheesh, I don't like Diet Coke, but it's not the Devil's Nectar.

For fizzy substitutes, I've gotten suuuuper into Glaceau FruitWater. 0 calories, but sweet and fizzy. Not a cola, but if I drink diet colas I just think about how much I want *real* cola and I kicked 3+ can a day habit. So no cola for this chick.

^This. I have a can of soda a day and have not had any hindrance in weight loss. I see no reason to deprive myself of something that tastes good and can lift my mood (not to mention its a tasty item I look forward to). As another person said moderation! :)

    Bingo.

Same here. Diet Coke... another thing I enjoy, and another thing I will continue to enjoy.

The false voodoo posts need to go away. Like there's not enough misinformation on the internet already.

I guess I'm going to die then, because I'm drinking a Diet Coke and eating a 100 Calorie Pack, which I'm sure also made of the devil's tears.

Coke Zero tastes SO much better than Diet Coke. I like regular coke myselt, but if I have to have a diet drink, it's usually diet pepsi becuse Diec Coke sucks so much.

You know what I love about these threads?

They always fall into two groups. Diet soda is fine vs. diet soda will rot your insides, kill you, and steal your retirement plan.

The side that supports diet soda is typically long time users who have lost weight, often significant amounts.

The OMG NOES! crowd is almost always new users who have yet to make any progress, but they're right there and ready to tell you what their friends herbal guru said or with a link to some bogus website.

Whenever I'm trying to figure out if someone knows what they're talking about, I look how long they've been a member and at their ticker.

    Proof is in the pudding.

    And now I want pudding.

    Mmm pudding.

I just think Diet Cole tastes like skata. Well they all do, really. Nothing beats that yummy sugary soder.

Oh man. When I hit the goal weight, I'm just gonna walk around threads spreading lies pretending I know what I'm talking about.

"No, don't drink protein powder. Protein powder unmixes with the water in your stomach and causes powder build up which forces your body in starvation mode"

"Avoid all meat because meat was once born from an animal and carries parts of the placenta which causes iron deficiencies"

Drinking nothing but Coke Zero might become a problem for your health, but if you are eating healthy and drinking water, then a Coke Zero or two a day is not going to kill you or affect your weight loss.
