I'm about 4" - 5" under half. If I had a 35" waist(and at one point I did) I'd be pretty chubby.0

Damn - I need to be 6" taller!!0

mine was LESS than half my height BEFORE I started losing weight!0

If people read the article it says no larger than i.e up to half your height.0

We had a "Swap it" campaign in Australia. "Measure up" was a part of that in 2008/10 - focusing on waist size. It was a good government project. Shame it didn't continue. Getting under half my height in waist measurement was one of my major goals. It seemed to carry more meaning towards better health rather than scales.0

Measuring is hard when you're shaped like the Michelin Man!
5'3" and 38.5" waist. I need to get to 31.5".
I started at 39.5" and i lost almost 20 lbs to lose just 1 inch. Doesn't seem like i can reach that with only 30 more lbs to lose. Guess i will have to tackle that issue when i get there.0 -
I'm under half in the waist. If they come out and say your hips have to be lower; well, I'm in trouble, b/c there's a 10 inch difference between my waist and hips. Yeah, I'm all butt and thigh.
This is my dilemma. I have a 26.5 inch waist and 38.5 hips. I'm screwed if it changes.0 -
At 67" tall, that puts me at a 33.5" waist. I was obese when my waist was 33.5".
What kind of stupid measurement is that?
Currently 29.5, and I could still lose a few lbs if I felt like trying0 -

LESS THAN half your height. 33.5 is a limit, not a target. Why can't people read before saying nonense?0 -
Considering the waist can be artificially narrowed....

But I'm thinking this might be more valuable than the BMI, which is an approximation at best.0 -

Seriously? I was trying to say that I was OBESE. As in EFFING HUGE when my waist was at that "target". I was in no way even remotely healthy.
Maybe you should learn to read before spouting nonsense...

By this rule, I should be set already. I've always had a smaller waist. I carry most of my weight from my hips down.0

I need to grow about three inches taller; and STAT!0

A quick google suggests 33" waist is a men's medium in shirts and pants.

5'6" and my waist is currently 37". So I need to drop four more. That should be doable in 50 pounds.0
