Cheeseburger lovers?! All the lolz. Oh you, you poor clean eating thing.
Dammit, I had a mouthful of chicken and sweet potato.  :laugh:0 -
MFP is the tamest, nicest, least aggressive fitness forum I've ever spent time on. And I'm a member at pretty much every large bodybuilding forum. MFP also has, far and away, the most sensitive and entitled userbase.
I don't see how some of these people who get offended by MFP posts can even function in the real world. I'm guessing they don't.0 -
Review the community guidelines - there's a link to them in the page footer. A lot of those awful comments are definitely against the guidelines. Whenever someone is pissing me off and they're violating those guidelines, I report the comment. And then, if they piss me off more than once, I also click the little arrow underneath their profile picture in the thread, and choose to ignore the user.
There are just some people who come onto every thread with criticism, or inappropriate sexual comments, or a terrible attitude, and clicking that ignore button is magic - you don't have to deal with them anymore.
this explains. SO much.
Yup...the only threads/posts I report after 1 year + of being here are those awful selling something posts...the rest eh...I put my big girl panties on (no not granny ones either) and move on with my day...
So you get your feelings hurt because someone might not agree with you or might be too blunt for you and you think it's reason to report someone. Sadly it's people like you and this thinking that has gotten a lot of very knowledgeable people banned.
Do you know the guidelines, or what happens when someone is reported? Reporting doesn't automatically cause anything to happen. It alerts the moderators, who decide what the appropriate action is. There's a warning system. It's not like I'm condemning someone to permanent banning by hitting that button. I'm just alerting the moderators that things are getting out of hand, and letting them handle it. If they disagree with my assessment, then there are no consequences.
If the knowledgeable people who got banned were repeatedly breaking the guidelines and ignoring warnings, which is what it takes to actually get banned, then it sounds appropriate to me.
The rules get broken regularly- it isn't your job to be the forum police for silly infractions that offend your sensibilities.
I think the reporting for swearing is RIDICULOUS around here- seriously- we are all adults- there is an age limit for this site- why people get reported and possibly banned for swearing to me is BEYOND ludicrous. But according to you- it's perfectly fine to get someone who could very well be a huge asset to the community totally banned because you don't like four letter word color metaphors.
Are you the person who drives 55 in the left lane because THAT"S THE SPEED LIMIT AND EVERYONE IS BREAKING THE RULES SO IT"S OKAY. (PS- no it's not- the left lane is for passing so if you aren't passing people you're also wrong)
Outside of significant thread/damage/wrong-doing- doing that just makes you feel morally superior- and it doesn't change people's behavior. So- same same here- unless someone is spamming- or personally attacking- like legitimately personally attacking them- it's over kill- get off the report button- it's not worth it- and you wind up killing the community.
And then you won't have a community at all to hang out on.0 -
Why, oh why, can't I stay away from the mean people threads? They're like crack to me.
I'll say the same thing that I say on every mean people thread. I've been here a long time and I've never seen anyone be mean. I've seen blunt, but not mean.
I love this site. If it weren't for MFP and the knowledgable people here I wouldn't be as healthy as I am now.
So keep on, keepin' on, MFP friends!0 -

omg lol love it! haha so weird trolls dont usually bug me but on this site for some reason it was maybe im just pms sentitive lmao but this is great
wait... you're allowed to blame your behavior on PMS but if I ask if its that time of the month, its bad?
Yeah, absolutely! Assuming stuff about other people's bodies is always rude.
Here's some cool stuff I learned about hormones. People say women are all irrational and get angry about nothing when they're PMSing, right? But testosterone is highest just before menstruation. That means that women are hormonally closest to being men when they're premenstrual. Hormonally speaking post-menopausal women are the most stable, more so than men, and yet hormonal instability has been used as a reason to prevent women from attaining positions of power. Innnnnteresting, huh?
Also, if someone is angry and is feeling it more because of hormones, that doesn't mean the cause isn't there.
This isn't directed at you, person-who-posted-the-nice-dark-haired-man-from-Vampire-Diaries-being-emotional. It's just, I thought it was cool so I shared it.
The presence of increased testosterone is not what causes the emotional instability, which means that your implication is also wrong.0 -
I hate being late to a mean people thread.... *kicks rocks*0
-
From my perspective, most of the "mean" posts are not directed at people looking for help. They are directed at people who are giving unsubstantiated advice to someone desperate. Every day, someone new comes to a forum and thinks they are the bright and shining light of truth and reason that can solve all the problems of the world. And their feelings are hurt when it is bluntly pointed out to them that they aren't.
One of my first posts here I gave my opinion and was shot down by an old-timer. I'm an adult, so I had a second cup of coffee, realized he had a point, and decided to read here a little more to get a feel for the "environment" before I posted again. I was used to knowing more about this stuff than the people I know IRL, but there are a ton of people here with more knowledge than me, so now I pick my spots. Dealing with being challenged, and sometimes being wrong, and not being coddled by the world, is a priceless life skill!
Plus, in for all the gifs

What a Jolly little thread0
-
Dang it, I'm late to the mean people thread. What a nice way to start Monday.0
-
man, you probably started the worst one by asking this lol
thats a tough one though, i think im split 50/50
some people give really blunt honest GOOD advice. they're just not the coddling.... "sensitive" type so it may come off a little harsh.
other people seem to really think they know everything about everyone and just shove it in your face in a totally classless way that makes you think "and im taking advice from THIS guy?!"
youre asking advice on a public social media site with thousands of members who come from all different walks of life. its bound to happen. has just as much to do with peoples negative REACTIONS as the orginal advice. presentation, perception, proactivity, reactivity, bias opinions....
its almost like religion and politics. don't talk about fitness in a bar.
lets get back to the gifs...0 -
This thread totally delivers.0

No, ****. I mean, I realize that people have feelings, and I do try to be mindful of others feelings, but for real, if people are getting *that* upset over what is said on an internet forum, and of all places, here-- as tame as this place is, they've gotta be crying themselves to sleep every night.0 -
geez, this makes my head hurt!0 -
i notice there are a lot of people in these forums who only comment to be negative or bash anyone who gives advice, why are you on a social fitness site if you dont want help? How do you all deal with these trolls? iv been using the forum for like 3 days and its already pissing me off lol
Then move on....MFP is not compulsory!0 -

You've been here a month and report a lot already? May I suggest more ignoring, less reporting?
lol and get a thicker skin, as for the sexual comments most times it is just harmless flirting just let your hair down and have some fun knowing that it means nothing. If anybody says something rudeto me I just scroll past the comment.0 -

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHHA! yes, exactly.0 -
shrug - I don't feel an obligation to jump in as the middle school hall monitor and push the report button just because it's my opinion that other people are being mean to each other. No one asked you to do that, and I really don't think it's up to you to judge whether two other people are being mean enough to warrant being reported, which can get one or both of them banned from the forums. I've had some pretty knowledgeable good friends get banned for nothing more than trying to get a new member to understand that what they were saying was wrong and the new person had hurt feelings.
Don't you know the biggest butthurt comes from people reading arguments that have nothing to do with them?0 -
Show us with your feels how they hurt you sweet pea. :flowerforyou:
quick...who's got the crisis crayons?

I have a gif for that!

Blame it on the guy (hormone). TYPICAL FEMALE RESPONSE
Also, that is interesting0 -
OMG.. this is awesome!!0 -
I imagine your negative experience stems from making a thread offering to be a diet coach based on being vegan, taking a few nutrition classes, and your "wellness coach" career working as a Curves coach. Add to that the assertion that dairy is horrible for weight loss, people who do lose weight while eating dairy do not have ideal weight loss, and that those who consume dairy are not in optimal health, plus some theories about the vast conspiracy of America's dairy farmers and how cow's milk will make people fat because baby cows drink it and they get big very quickly.
Seriously?? It all makes sense now! Thank you for the enlightenment :flowerforyou:0 -

Why am I here? Because MFP was the first, online food diary that allowed me to track sodium. I have since found another that will track sodium, but I stick around MFP because I already have my food entered into the database. I'm not here to get advice (at first, but my threads asking for help were ignored, lol). I'm here mostly for the fun and random gifs that crop up so I can add them to my collection.
I'm likely on your "troll" list, so if you read this you can enjoy some ALS Ice Bucket Challenge tastiness:

I sure do hope you are getting paid for your time... Would hate for you to spend so much time looking for out of hand situations so they can be reported. *Shrug* The internet just isn't for everyone I guess, to me my time would be much better spent reading a book or working out instead of looking for people to report.0 -
