Pregnancy 2011 - January

My dr. told me I didn't have to fast but she did tell me to not eat much sugar that day; stick to proteins...so hopefully it will come out ok. haha I probably would have liked to eat 2 donuts though!!
I hope everything goes okay for you!
I told my supervisor I'm expecting this morning and one of the first things she told me is to NOT eat anything at all before the test. She was told she could eat protein but she & everyone she knows who did eat protein beforehand ended up failing the test (but then went on to pass the 3 hour test). Maybe it was just a coincidence. But I guess I'll attempt actually fasting. My test is at 8am (and not until April ) so I think I'll be okay fasting since I'm in no way an early riser.0 -
I started making my baby quilt today. I'm so excited to see how it turns out.
I thought about making one for my SIL but I just don't think she would appreciate it the time, effort, money and love that goes into a handmade quilt. She so snobby. Maybe I'm being ugly. My husband (her brother) said he didn't think she would appreciate it either.
I have to decide soon though, because her baby shower is at the end of January.
How fun! I have to start crocheting my baby blanket here fairly soon. I need to go pick out some yarn. Not sure if I should keep it a baby blue like I made for my last son or do something a little different. I already plan to do a different pattern so I might just stick with baby blue yarn.
I definitely wouldn't take the time to make a blanket for someone who won't appreciate the effort. And if your husband agrees with you I definitely wouldn't spend the time on it. I have crocheted blankets for some people and looking back I wish I had never done it for them.
Have you picked out your fabric?
I got it yesterday. I decided to go with pastel baby colors instead of the brighter kid/baby colors.
I found some really cute modern fabric online, but I went ahead and got some from Hancock yesterday. Today I've got everything cut out and am planning to have the top completed by tonight, because it is laid out on my kitchen table, LOL. My son was panicky over where we were going to eat dinner tonight. LOL0 -
I'm just learning to knit so I've started on a baby blanket already just to get some knitting practice. I guess I'll crochet one next to learn how to do that & get practice with it as well. I'm excited about it.
Does anyone here use a pregnancy pillow? I'm having a hard time getting comfy in bed (yep, already) & wondered if I should splurge on a pregnancy pillow specifically or if a $10 body pillow would do the trick just as well.
I discovered body pillows when I was pregnant with # 1, I haven't been able to give them up ever since. I had a super rough night and woke hubby up at 1am in tears so we made yet another trip to labor & delivery. Good news, no contractions... bad news, nobody could tell me why I am having such horrible cramps. I spent 8 hours there being poked, pried and scanned. Excellent news is baby looks perfect, I do have a hernia at my belly button so that may be some of my pain. They also found a placental lake. The doctor didnt seem concerned and from what I read about them it seems harmless. They are going to send me to a specialist though to get another scan in a few weeks to make sure it is not doing any harm. I guess besides peace of mind the best part was seeing Brooklynn sucking on her thumb... too cute already!0 -

I have crocheted a blanket for each of my babies. I have my blanket from when I was a baby and so to me it is important for each of them to have something special that mommy made them. I usually go with blue but this time it is different, her blanket is pale pink, lavender and purple.0 -
I've tried crocheting so many times and just can't get very far. I don't know why. It's like DOH, every time I try. That was my hope was to also crochet a blanket for wrapping. I just can't get my stiches to all be the same size or I end up with big holes.
Baby quilts aren't meant really for covering, they are great for carrying in the diaper bag when you go places. They make the perfect mats.0 -
Hey ladies...
I feel like there have been 1 million posts since this morning I love that. So I am on hour 11 of my day and sadly I still have 3ish more to go. Thats what teaching and coaching will do to you.
I got sick for the first time a work today. It was really not fun. Puking in a bathroom with high schoolers around, not my cup of tea.
Question: Did any of you get 4D ultrasounds at 15 weeks to find out the sex? How did you schedule these? did you just ask your dr?0 -

Question: Did any of you get 4D ultrasounds at 15 weeks to find out the sex? How did you schedule these? did you just ask your dr?
I just scheduled an ultrasound to find out the sex at 15+2 but I'm pretty sure it's a 2D ultrasound. My OB office recommended waiting until at least 28 weeks for 4D ultrasounds. The ultrasound tech I had yesterday said they used to give 4D ultrasounds to everyone at 20-22 weeks for the anatomy scan but people constantly freaked out about what the baby looked like in 3D that early (in an "OMG, what's wrong with my baby?!" kind of way) so they stopped offering them that early.
Anyway, my OB included a pamphlet about sex determination ultrasounds between 15-18 weeks so I called to schedule a "sex determination ultrasound" & took the first date they offered. :happy:0 -

They creep me out. I think the baby looks nasty. I don't think it's much cuter in the 2D either though... (babies are NOT cute until they area a few weeks old and have some fat on them. Newborns are gross. IMO )0 -
Hi ladies! My name is Jessica and I'm currently trying to lose weight before TTC baby #2. Ideally, I'd like to get pregnant in the late fall or winter of this year. I was overweight and had gestational diabetes during my first pregnancy and would love to avoid some of those problems this next time.
I blame all this weight gain on the end breastfeeding. I lost a TON of weight while I was BF'ing my daughter, but once she weaned, I kept eating like I was feeding 2 people.
Congrats to all of you currently expecting and best of luck to those of you TTC or WTTC!0 -
hmm. My DH's cousin told me 4-d they could see the sex better but 2-d is fine with me! I am going to ask my dr. at my 10 week apt. monday. I wonder if my insurance would cover it. I am okay with waiting a bit but my DH wants to know NOW.
I threw up every single item I ate today. Except so far the two graham crackers I just ate. and I worked 14.5 hours. I am tired. ha.0 -
I wouldn't trust an sex determination before 16 weeks 100%. It is so early and female genitallia can be confused with male. But I was like ya'll ready to know. I did the 2d sex determination and had to pay privately. Most Doctor's offices don't really do U/S just for sex determination, they are generally checking other things. But some do. I was glad I did mine privately, because you don't have a tech in a doc's office who is backed up or in a hurry and that is the only thing they do all day is determine sex. I liked having the extra time. You just have to remember going to a private place if something is wrong with your baby they aren't a medical facility and most likely won't tell you.
I also think 3D and 4D U/S are creepy looking. I think it just depends on the person. They look like little aliens in 2D, LOL:laugh:0 -
I honestly won't trust sex determination 100% at ANY time. Well, maybe after the baby is born.
AnneElise -- my OB office only charges $75 for the sex determination ultrasound. My insurance will definitely not cover it, nor will it apply toward my deductible. But $75 is cheaper than any private ultrasound place I found in my city. And 15 weeks is 1 week sooner than any other place would do it, too.
I could've waited until my anatomy scan which is scheduled 3/3 and is covered by my insurance but for us, it was worth the extra $75 to know (or at least think we know ) so much sooner. It's killing us not knowing. :laugh:0 -
Hello everyone! I am here b/c I a currently TTCing. I am currently over 200lbs. I just got my first "Was it planned?" & I almost laughed out loud when the woman asked because I've read/heard so many pregnant women *****ing about being asked that question.
Seriously though, why do people think that's an appropriate question to ask? I would never in a million years have the balls to ask someone that!0 -
My doctor put me on bedrest for the duration of my pregnancy and up until 6 weeks after delivery. It is much different waking up with lil ones in the bed wanting to watch cartoons than it is running to the office at 3:30am. I will definately be logging all of my food since I wont have much else to do other than rest. Hubby takes care of us, all of you going through m/s should teach dh to cook. It will help you out tremendously when the baby is born and you cant get around much. The last time we had a baby we ate spaghetti for a week because it was the only thing he knew how to cook. Last night he whipped up a meatloaf and mashed potatoes... what a difference! Geez I love him, and I am oh so lucky.0

Oh I am so glad he put you on bedrest, for your sake! I know you were hurting so badly! Enjoy your quality time with your little ones you have now...their little sister will soon be the princess0 -

I used to think that too until I saw my little guys ultrasound this time around. There is no denying he is all boy with the angle the tech took the picture. He didn't give us a good profile shot of his face but we sure had a different shot :laugh:0 -

People are just that way, hubby and I got married at 20 and had our first at 21. People always assume that I got knocked up young and dont realize that at 28 I am about to celebrate my 8 year wedding anniversary and that my first baby was born MORE than a year AFTER we got married. I remember when my first was a few months old, I was in line at the market and a lady told me I was too young to have a baby. Screw people, they are rude. All that matters is that you are having a baby, all of ours have been planned but I could care less what anyone thinks.0 -

I know, right?! My husband and I have been married for over 3 years, and I've still had people ask if it was an "oopsie". Really?? :laugh:0 -

I got the "was it planned" question too. But the best comment I have gotten so far, was yesterday. I walked into work after being gone for the holidays, and my co-worker said "WOW, you finally look pregnant and not just fat. I was wondering when the pregnancy would overtake the fat." :noway:
I was like...gee...thanks, I really appreaciate your thoughtfulness. Seriously, who says something like that!!!!0 -

Glad to hear it, I know you've been waiting for this. My husband cooks, but I am a monthly freezer cooker. So I am planning on cooking about 3 weeks worth of food and freezing it to make it easier on him and myself. Last time our church group brought over food every day for 4 weeks. We almost died it was way too much food. It was really nice though.
We don't belong to that group anymore, so this time it will just be me planning ahead and family.0 -

They do the same thing when you are an older mom, with older kids. I guess people just have a set age for the mom and for the siblings to be apart.
My SIL gets asked that because she is 41 and her last one is over 8 years old. And no it was not planned.0 -

HAHAHA! That is just crazy! I get those too...from one person inparticular...First she told me my hips were starting to get wider (great, thanks!) at the very beginning of my pregnancy and I hadn't even gained any weight, then comes up with comments like "wow, you're starting to look funny!" Funny? Really? She said her husband told her that all the time, that she looked funny. I would think she wouldn't have liked it, so don't call other people that too, lol. Sometimes you just gotta laugh!
Sooo...I know this has nothing to do with pregnancy but I've been telling you all about our house. Well, the final inspection was set up for Friday as long as they could finish the well and build porches today. OF COURSE it's raining today so we won't be able to have the house inspected Friday. I was just looking at my calendar and had the realization that "OMG our lease is up on the 15th...that's only next Saturday!!" There's no way we'll be in by then (because after final inspection we have to wait on the bank for closing)! Looks like we'll be homeless for a few days...or weeks...! We'll have to find a place to store all of our stuff...furniture, boxes, etc, and live out of a suitcase somewhere (friends?, family?...). It wouldn't be SO bad except we have two inside dogs...who's going to take us in, with our two big dogs? LOL So that's just what's on my mind today...I'm stressing out a little bit! All I can do is pray and not worry over the things I can't control, but I guess it's time to start looking for a place to crash! :laugh:0 -
Dont' stress. You will get into your house one way or another. You may have to kennel the dogs. I know it is expensive but it will give you piece of mind. I'm glad to hear ya'll are getting so close. I would be so scared to build a house, It made me nervous just adding on. There are so many things that have to be considered.0
-
mwilson, miracles can happen! When we bought this house in March it had been a short sale and then a foreclosure. After 9 months of waiting and multiple offers the bank closed in ten days! So we actually had possession 10 days after our offer was accepted. It was very stressful, but so nice to get done! I would suggest getting all your paperwork in order and letting the bank know what is going on--underwriting was what took the longest for us and that wasn't bad. All my ramblings is to say it will work out!:laugh:0
-
When we told my mother in law that we may be expecting twins, the first thing she said was, "Oh man, you're gonna get SO FAT!" Thanks Sally, as if that hadn't crossed my mind when I knew we were expecting one, you've reassured me that it will in fact happen if we are having two :mad:0

Good Morning Ladies!
I'm sorry about some of the comments
you ladies have had. Some ppl are so
insensitive. I had the "was it planned ?"
but it came from my lil brother hahaha
i just laughed it off cause he's so curious
about TTC and he's way to young to be
thinking about that right now.
So, i was wondering what you ladies are
using for stretch marks. i've been keeping
my water intake high and using vaseline
cocoa butter, i like it because it doesn't
smell too strong and it isn't too greasy. I had
a scare I found a red bump on my lower abdomen
that itched but turns out its a pimple or ingrown hair
of some sort cause it's going away. I know i'll
get stretch mark and they're not all avoidable but
I'd like to get away with just the minimum haha
My appt went so well yesterday. We got to hear
baby's HB it was going strong at 154bpm I
was so excited yesterday. It's such a relief
because at the beginning of this pregnancy i was
constantly scared because of the spotting and it's
comforting to know that M/C drops significantly after
this week. Just thankful today.0 -
I would totally pay 75$ to have an ultra sound at 15 weeks to find out the sex. I am going to ask my dr. monday and then call and check around private places.
I told my students today and I got the was it planned question MANY times but nothing much worse. They were actually all very sweet about it. They told me I was going to the best mom, they would babysit, they told me I was so skinny they were sure I wouldn't get too big, they were so excited for me, one told me she would hold the trash can ;D From high schoolers these are nice things to hear.0 -

I think if one scan were not covered by my ins I would not get one at all. $75 is too much for me to pay even if it's the only chance to find out! It'd have to be around $20 for me to even consider and then I might still opt for buying groceries or gas instead :laugh:0
