Sour September ended with a crashed and broken bike and 45 stitches to the eyebrow and a nice scar to remind me of how fragile we all are and to always put safety first. But after a few weeks on the mend and a new used bike procured. Today was the maiden voyage and I am once again throwing my hat into the ring.

    10/04 - 15.36 @ 14.1 mph

    MTD: 15.36
    Goal: 300

Oh geeesh. Glad you're okay and back at it.

I actually was going to quit this challenge but OldDogSparky went and called me an inspiration so now I can't quit. Haha. Thanks, Sparky.

... and because you are awesome!

Goal 400 miles, MTD 49 Miles. Guess I need to start wearing my earbuds so I can listen to some Fleetwood Mac while on the road (at least some of the good stuff that's as old as I am).

Thanks, Sparky. Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack is songs from when I was in my teens. So at least mentally, I can feel young again. Haha.

Day 2... feels good to be back to it. Planning to squeeze out a few more weeks of work commutes before it's too darn cold in the AM.

    10/05 - 15.29 @ 15.2 mph

    MTD: 30.65

    Month's goal: 400 miles

    10/2: 22.3 miles
    10/5: 28.5 miles

    Month's total: 50.8 miles

October has gotten off to a slow start. Was all kitted out at 6 am to ride to work on the 1st when the heavens opened up and it started to pour. 40 degrees and rain, no thanks. The next day it was lightly raining and about 55 when it was time to ride home. I decided to go for it, although going the short route rather than the long (7 miles vs. 15). I have to give myself a pep talk to get on the bike now that it's getting chillier. No snow yet, thankfully.

I am shooting for 80 a week for this month. I have hit my goal for this week and ready to start the next. I hate that the weather is starting to get colder and may limit riding. Does anyone have any experience with interactive trainers for the super cold months?

I don't personally but I have been researching. Apparently the magnetic ones are the best as they are much more quiet than the fluid type. Check your local fb group or CL and you should be able to find them there. Skinny slicks are best for obvious reasons.

Glad to be here for October's challenge (THANX CRICKETKATE!!)
Enjoyed reading up on old and new posters - very inspirational.
Here's my mileage from my ride in Missouri on the Katy Trail:
    Oct 1 81 miles
    10-2 53
    10-3 69
    10-4 46
    10-5 29 MTD 278

Due to the chat surface [crushed limestone] I averaged 11.1 mph. My usual neighborhood average is 14-15, and my road average is 15-16.5, so I was putting in a lot of effort & saddle time to get those miles. The trip was fun, but I'm glad to be home & in my own bed. In 2 weeks I'll be in OKC visiting relatives. Can't wait to ride there with all the nice people on their weekly rides.

One week in and a bit ahead of the pace as the low winds, overcast weather, and recent tune-up have helped. With a much more comfortable high of 82 yesterday, I opted to ride a local trail to the end, racking up another 52 miles on the bike. Still, as the running mileage ramps up in the coming weeks it'll be good to have a bit of a cushion.

    10/2 - 27 miles (17.4 mph)
    10/6 - 52 miles (16.1 mph)
    10/7 - 38 miles (16.1 mph)

    Total: 117 miles (17/day)
    Goal: 300 miles (10/day)

Toying with doing a 2 day trip up/down the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage trail in the next few weeks as I've been feeling pretty fresh after doing a 38 and 52 mile ride the past 2 days and suspect the 106 mile trek from Key Largo to Key West seems pretty doable.
