Good morning everyone, so glad to find this thread :-) I am not a cyclist, but own a bike and plan to put it to work in March for a triathlon near Kona. Hope you all don't mind a few questions as they arise!

October 2 - rode 6.5 miles for a duration of 00:35.48 (mountain bike)
October 6 - rode 12.9 miles for a duration of 1:04:35 (mountain bike race simulation)
October 7 - rode 26.7 miles for a duration of 1:35:27 (road bike)
October 9 - rode 11.3 miles for a duration of 00:45:02 (XC race warm-up practice)

*I have no cycling goals for October in terms of miles, and hours. I will race in two mountain bike races on my schedule to finish out the 2014 racing season. At this point, I can't gain any more fitness for October, so I'm just trying to maintain what is left from the previous 10 months of training enough to do races on the 19th and the 25th. Then it's time for fall riding, and weight-lifting season.

Greetings, I'm a 60-year-old who manages about 300 miles a month. I'd love to hear from other geezers' riding experiences. :D

They finally finished re-paving one of my regular routes, so the gloves are now (literally) off. Tried aero-bars as well this week, but I think I might need to move up my seat and lower the handlebar to make sure I'm getting the proper amount of drop with them to reap their benefits as my HR was roughly the same on same-speed/route rides when using them vs. just going into the drops.

    10/2 - 27 miles (17.4 mph)
    10/6 - 52 miles (16.1 mph)
    10/7 - 38 miles (16.1 mph)
    10/8 - 52 miles (16.2 mph)
    10/9 - 7 miles (14 mph)
    10/10 - 19 miles (15.5 mph)
    10/11 - 32 miles (16.1 mph)

    Total: 227 miles (21/day)
    Goal: 300 miles (10/day)

Wow! You ALL impress me. I have an old Kent boys mountain bike that's on its way out. I just got the tire fixed and am going to replace it in the spring as the forks in front are going. Any ideas for a replacement, please let me know. During spin class I usually go about 20 MPH, but on the road, usually only about 10, so I am not looking for a racing bike. I am HOPING to ride about 100 miles over the next four weeks. I also run, walk, hike, and take a Zumba or kick boxing class when I can. I switch to the elliptical in the winter instead of biking usually.

I actually was going to quit this challenge but OldDogSparky went and called me an inspiration so now I can't quit. Haha. Thanks, Sparky.

... and because you are awesome!

Goal 400 miles, MTD 49 Miles. Guess I need to start wearing my earbuds so I can listen to some Fleetwood Mac while on the road (at least some of the good stuff that's as old as I am).

I Fleetwood Mac, and Stevie Nicks, Van Morrison. You are NOT old, just have good taste!

    Month's goal: 400 miles

    10/2: 22.3 miles
    10/5: 28.5 miles
    10/6: 24.1 miles
    10/7: 29.6 miles
    10/8: 29.6 miles
    10/9: 24.0 miles
    10:10: 23.3 miles

    Month's total: 181.4 miles

It's dark and cold now when I start to bike in the morning, making it harder to motivate myself to go the long way to work (7 miles vs. 15). I think I need to find my thicker woolier socks, because my poor toes are freezing for a good few hours after I get to work. Or I need to switch from my road bike (backpack) to mountain bike (rack and panniers) so I can wear my boots in the morning and carry my sneakers to wear to the gym. The backpack doesn't have enough room for any additional pairs of shoes.

Just got a new bike the end of September. It was professionally fitted for me, amazing. Love it! I only ride on the weekends, and I run during the week. So I'm not sure what my cycling goal will be yet.
    Oct 4 23 miles 1:50
    Oct 5 25 miles 1:45
    Oct 11 27 miles 1:50
    Oct 12 18 miles. 1:30
