I love tattoos! I have always wanted on but am too chicken (of the commitment, not the pain) to get one. My husband has 11... I love them... they are beautiful and significant and meaningful. I've never really had a reason - other than I want one - to get one... until the past year when my son came into my life. So, I've been thinking about getting one to represent him. But I dunno...
So I just wanted to know...
Who has them? What are they? What and/or who do they represent?
Just curious.

I have a few....
A huge one on my back (covers an old one from post divorce)....rising pheonix.
First one on my ankle - good luck clover (not my fav)
One on my left wrist - Kanji - says "Walk With Me"
One behind my left ear - a flower with 3 butterflies representing me, daughter and my future spouse.
Getting one behind the OTHER ear today after school - a wild moon design I found. I'm a Cancer.
They one thing I will say, do LOTS of research and find a GREAT artist. Also, make sure it's something and somewhere that you can handle it being. I get some odd looks from people. There is a stigma still that comes with ink.0 -

Like you I always wanted one but the commitment of one was something I was not sure of. Well both our boys are born under the same zodiac sign, the aries. The are five years apart but their birthdays are 15 days apart in april. So I told my husband for our anniversary I wanted the sign of the Aries to represent our boys. It was the first and probably last tatoo I will get because I dont know anything else that is more meaning full than my boys.0

Alright, how do you get rid of double posts?0

Woooo! Tattoo's!
At the moment I have two of them, though, I plan to expand very very near in the future.
On my right shoulder I have a celtic tribal sun, it was my first tattoo and I still love it. I am very proud of my celtic ancestory (Welsh, scotch) and felt that the tribal primalism infused with the ancient veneration of the sun made for a really powerful symbol. It rocks.
On my left shoulder I have a massive tribal knot that covers the entire upper part of my shoulder and creeps over onto my chest and back. It was meant to be the base for sleeving my arm, but that, unfortunately, is on hiatus for a bit. (I had a supervisor that wasn't too keen about his officers having tattoo's.)
The ones I have planned are a 'Labarum' surrounded by roman victory laurels and ringed with the words 'By this sign you will conquer. I plan to have this one placed over my left pec. (The labarum was the symbol Constantine saw in the sky before converting to Christianity. It's an extremely powerful symbol for someone who was so anti Christ at one point in his life....just like Constantine).
The other I want is a set of black feathered angel wings that will cover my entire back, I love Angelic symbology, and I want to remind myself that I was created by God to be his servant and a protector of those who are weaker than myself. This will be a pretty major project. I'm psyched.

I love tattoos also, I only have one. But take my advice and think long and hard about what you want and make sure that it will always mean something to you. If you get something to symbalize your son that would be awesome. But I did the whole random spur of the momment decision. I had just turned 18 and thought that a tattoo would be a great way to celebrate-WRONG. My problem was I didnt research and take the time to think of something that truly means something to me. and I wound up with stupid cherries on my hip...yes quite ridicoulous I know. So then I spent the next 4 years of my life hating them. I actually just last weekend found a tattoo parlor that would even attempt to cover them up. So my tattoo artsit AKA as my hero covered them up with a really cool peace sign ( I swear I think I was a hippie in another life) I am happy with my peace sign but this whole long saga,, not too mention the pain and money could have been avioded if I had just done a little research to begin with.
So Good luck in your adventure...just dont make any hasty decisions and Im sure your tatoo will be beautiful0 -
The only tattos I have are battle scars from all kinds of things lol. My fiance has lets see well start low and work our way up. She has a set of two dice on her inner heel for vegas, she has a hibiscus? Hawiann flower on her left hip, then shes got a fairy on her right rear hip blowing star dust on a scar, then shes got a huge fairy on her back. I want her to get a lepricahn with a fly swatter hitting the fairy, or a net to catch her for my irish heritage catching her. She wont do it but I told her Im going to get one on my stomach doing just that that way when were cuddling they can face off and catch his lucky charms She highly disagrees, amatuers! LOL0

Well, I got one when I was in my second semster of college at Bloom U. I got one for this guy I was dating, boy was he AWESOME, but I digress I got a butterfly with flowers tattooed around my belly button with a belly ring. Needless to say two kids later the tattoo needs needs minor repair and you get scar if you take out your belly ring, so now I have to get it fixed and get my self repirced one of these days.0

I may have one or two...
:blushing:0 -
I have 3.
1st was after I was diagnosed with cancer in 2001. I got a rose with my name. I figured If I ever got alzheimer's I can look at my leg and know my first name. LOL Yes stupid I know but the artist said the rose looked too plain so he added my name. It is on my right leg near my ankle.
2nd is a unicorn with a rose in his mouth on my left leg near my ankle. He just looked pretty.
3rd is an ankle bracelet going around my right ankle.
I was 41 when I got my first tat and I am looking into getting one more. Just can't decide what and where.
Any ideas??0 -

Did you know they have pregnancy belly rings now? Sorry, totally random...I am not even pierced.0 -
Mine would look like this "---" until I passed out in fear/pain. :laugh:0

Also, this is a cool site and where I get most of my ideas, even though me and my artist tweak them:

Wow... all of you are awesome for getting inked. Like I said I have always loved tattoos. My best friend since FOREVER has like 20-25... not exactly sure... and they are all so beautiful and meaningful (to her). I will have to come up with something.
I've thought about just getting his name on the inside of my wrist "Dominic" - his name so fits his boyish, rugged personality... he's so fearless!!! And only 14 months old!!!0 -

I can't even see the ones behind my ears. I can try to get some pics of them if you are curious. I'd have to email em to you or somethin. I have learned to be more picky with my art as I age. :laugh:0 -

I have 4. I have my oldest daughters name with a baby tiger cub (right shoulder), my youngest daughters name with a bear cub (left ankle), a tribal art sun (in the middle of my upper back), and my name on my ankle-- Im not done either I think I am going to get a few more before I call it a quits I love tattoos (but hate going to the doctor and getting blood drawn go figure) and I also love piercings I have had my lip pierced (marilyn monroe style) had to take it out for work though, my belly button (which is out now too, and my tongue which is still in after 10 years its a part of me now I have only taken it out for the dentist, surgery, the birth of my children, and xrays- Oh yeah to blow monster bubbles with gum with my kids lol-- I feel naked without it in..
Make sure what ever you get its something you wont mind having on you the rest of your life- Your childs name isn't a bad choice for your first tattoo- and they dont hurt either it stings a little but you go kind of numb after awhile0 -
Don't get one. Have a small mushroom on my inner ankle. Got it at age 20. Now age 36 with kids and have to explain it. Also now have to be prepared for "but you have one" when they get to be older. Wish I didn't have it. I find myself hiding it when at church and fancy formal events. You asked for opinions so there you have mine. If God meant for us to be all colorful then he would have made us that way. I wish I had had more insight and wisdom when I was 20!0

I am actually not into piercing... my ears have three holes each - that's about as good as it gets with me!!! HAHA!!
Tattoos are another story... love them!!! Haha!!!:laugh:0 -

I appreciate your opinion... I can see your point. Thanks for posting.
Just had to add... I have been waiting for my mind to change about tattoos for a while now. I have digged them for years now... I am almost 26 and I still love them. I honestly thought that once my son was born that I would see them differently but... i dunno... :ohwell:
My family has been against them all my life... "they are bad and ugly and God doesn't want you to have them or he would has given them to you himself"... but I just don't believe the same way. I think they are creative, beautiful, and serve as a means of expression. The artist that do them are amazing creatures - I wish I had that ability. The first time my Mom saw my husband's tattoos she was... well.. not impressed. I was like "Mom, he loves tattoos... he's not into drugs, abusing women/children, he is a good man with a huge heart. He just loves tattoos. Get over it." Haha!!!
Once again.... I REALLY DO appreciate you opinion. I think it merits A LOT of what the general public thinks about tattoos. Again, thank you for the post. :flowerforyou:

I have 3 (so far). I want to get another one but I'm not sure yet what or where. I only know that I want it to signify the joy that my babies have brought to my life.
My 1st and favorite is a scorpion holding a rose on my lower back. The scorpion is very feminine looking with hearts for her head and stinger (yes, she represents me - I'm pure Scorpio) and she's got her tail wrapped around a rose that has a teardrop falling from a petal. My husband died in 2001 at the age of 28 and this piece represents us and our love. It's all done in black line work and shading.
My 2nd is a celtic circle on my right shoulder blade. I'd gone in to have a custom piece done and ended up not liking the finished piece so I got this one instead.
My 3rd is an Emmett gargoyle in the middle of my back (behind the bra strap line). I've always collected gargoyles and love the idea of him watching over me 24/7. He's got a circle of leopard print around him. That idea came from my favorite singer/songwriter, Butch Walker, when I saw his leopard print tattoo on his arm and of course his song, 'Leopard Print".
I don't like the idea of just going in and picking something off the wall. I want them to have meaning. Right now, all of mine are in black line art and shading. But the one I get for the babies HAS to be in full, vibrant color because that's what they've brought to my life. You'd better watch out because ink is addictive. The needle gives an amazing rush. Once you get one, you'll be hooked! And be sure you choose carefully - they don't rub off.0 -
I have ten and a super quick rundown is:
1. Left arm-wolf in a dream catcher
2. right arm-eagle ripping thru my arm and in the tears an american flag
3. small of back-beagle puppy
4.between both wrists-carpe diem
5. left ankle-turtle with a checkered flag
6. right calf-tribal of dolphins
7.right upperchest-tiger orchids in a tribal
8. left chest-chinese character for faith
9.left shoulder-the guy from the led zeppelin stairway to heaven(the hermit)
10.right shoulder-eye of horus(rajh)
I want more too!!!!!! I just wanna hit a goal wt before it!!!!0 -
loven the tatts! Definitely addictive!
1. treble clef with swirly thingies on small of back (went to school for music)
2. stars on achilles tendon (love stars)
3. Bee on hip (middle name is melissa, which means bee)
4. henna colored trinity in henna style across sternum/ribs
and my nose and ears are pierced, and ive been contemplating another peircing...0 -

I have had to face this too with my daughter. For me it's a release of pain (I'm an internalizer what can I say) through pain. I actually tell her that. My mother and father HATE them...for what they represent. I don't get mine cause it's "in" or that it's rebellious. I do it to cope. I explain it just like to my students as well and I warn them about the stigma that comes with having ink.
To each their own though.0
