The first time my Mom saw my husband's tattoos she was... well.. not impressed. I was like "Mom, he loves tattoos... he's not into drugs, abusing women/children, he is a good man with a huge heart. He just loves tattoos. Get over it." Haha!!!

I have had to deal with this also. It's pretty funny how people treat you when you look 'different' than their ideal.

Yeah, I have tattoos and wear affliction and tapout, most all of which is black. I wear my hat around backwards, and I have a lot of other counterculture clothing. Yes, I *might* look like I belong on the other side of the tracks, but I guarantee that very few people would treat your daughters and loved ones better than I would. No, I don't make a habit of cursing, and no I have never beaten or emotionally abused a child or a woman (or another guy for that matter). I love Jesus more than anything else. Also, just so you know, a number of years ago I had 3 earrings, and I was neither gay nor bisexual. (Not that it's *your* concern if I was, that's between me and the Big Man.)

I don't do drugs, and I very very rarely drink. I am loyal to a fault, and put others before myself.

I just happen to *look* different.

And you know what? I'm not the only one like this.

Why don't I change you ask? Well....why should I? It's not my responsiblilty to validate someone's puritan ideals. I am me. I like me, and there are a lot of awesome people who like me. I can't tell you the number of times my appearance was used as a bridge to those who would be ignored or even feared by others.

I know most of you aren't like this...but I felt compelled to mention it.

    Just my two cents.

Hi there.. sorry to bump this if everyone has exhausted the topic, but I just wanted to say - in my Mom's defense - that she has NEVER been rude to ANYONE based on their appearance. What I meant by "not impressed" was that she didnt care for them simply b/c she doesn't particularly like tattoos. With that said she ABSOLUTELY LOVES Kevin (my hubby)!!! She also adores my best friend who also has many (about 25) tattoos! I just don't think she'd like HER daughter to get one b/c SHE doesn't like them... but I have very plainly said to her "Momma, there are worst addictions than tattoos". She knows where I stand and respects it.

J - to be completely honest with you... you didn't have to say ANY of these things for me to know it about you! I don't know you personally but like I told you another time... you remind me SO MUCH of my husband. He too is very kind and respectful and caring and loving and I can go on and on. AND he too has tattoos, wears affliction shirts, carries a gun, etc. Telling you that you remind me of him is the BEST compliment I could ever give someone... b/c let's face it, we are talking about my soulmate... the man who has my  !!! I, along with just about everyone on this site, think you are AWESOME!!!

I really cannot stand people who don't look "outside the box" of life. There are so many more things to people and life in general than appearance... kinda funny saying that on this site... but it's so true.

I      all of the ideas for tattoos you all have talked about. Thank you for sharing!!! I am going to explore my options and make sure to pick something I will always love!!!

This is just my two cents... if you want it. Heehee!
