I have 2 tattoos and i love them, they both have different meanings and even if they didn't i would still love them because i think that tattoos are a great from of art. I have the outline of a star on my ankle (right over the bone, ow!) i got it because i had always told myself that i would get a tattoo if I was ever thin, but then I realized that i was just waiting on that and so many other things, so I said I was done waiting to be thin to live my life and I was going to do it as i am. so it comes from a place of self acceptance, which i love and it reminds me not to wait for anything.

Yeah, it wouldn't be a means of rebellion... even though my family doesn't like them I am way past that (26 years old - haha)... have been out of the house since i was 18. I definitely agree that you have to get them for the "right" reasons - whatever that may be for each person.

Hopefully most of us are past this point.
I have kids that I teach that are "cutters." That's what they do to handle pain. My kids know when they see a new tattoo on me it means I'm hurt inside. It's been tough to face the disapproval of my family (although I have a brother who secretly wants one as well). I am not a people pleaser though, I figure it comes down to me doing "more drastic measures" or taming the rage through art. I chose the latter.
My tattoos also represent healing and moving on with life....
Find something you LOVE, not just like but truly love with all your heart that you are drawn back to it again and again. That is the type of art going on behind my ear tonight after school.

I have two....one is a sun and moon design on my right ankle. At the time I LOVED suns and moons, had them all over my bedroom. I am not quite as crazy about them anymore, but I still like the tat and think it is pretty. It's only black right now, but I am thinking of someday getting some color added to it somehow.

My second one is in rememberance of my mom after she passed away. I got her intitals in a really pretty font with a halo above it. I have that on my lower back on the right....afterward I regretted the location a tiny bit since hearing tattoos there are called "tramp stamps"....don't really like the idea of my mothers memorial tattoo being called a tramp stamp, but what's done is done. Besides I am not one to really wear the short short shirts that shows it off anyway, so most people never see it.

I am thinking of getting a third (and final since I am running out of places I would want one) on the top of my foot. I am thinking about a very small daisy, about the size of a quarter.

I have three tattoos so far. One is a sun for my son and a moon for my first daughter (both of which have their names and birthdates in them - they're both over my heart). I'm going to be getting a star for my youngest daughter, I just have to figure out how to fit it in with the other two. I also have a spider on my back. I got it because I am TERRIFIED of spiders and it represents all of the bad times and how I have to turn my back on that stuff and keep looking forward. I am totally addicted and will definitely be getting more once I hit my goal weight as a gift to myself.

I've heard this too....some smart a-- would say it to me every once and a while....and I finally have got to the point where I look at them and say, "Dude, you see how BIG that stamp is? Do you seriously want to take on a girl who has something that fierce on her?" They usually scamper off to the heard...kinda kills the whole "tramp" mentality I guess if the guy thinks he'll get punched in the nuts.

I have two tattoos- stars on the inside of one wrist and folded wings on the other. They represent recovery from illness (wings) and my lucky stars (my husband and dogs). But heres my advice- I make myself wait about a year before getting one and if I'm pretty sure I want one, I set a special date (such as anniversary and birthday marking number of years recovery took)....secondly, it has to have a very, dear to my heart meaning...lastly, most importantly, it has to be something I can explain in a positive manner to my future children...i.e. I could tell my young children "I count my lucky stars everyday! Look, theres daddy, you, and me! I always have you with me!" and for the wings "I have these wings so that I can be there whenever you need me!" ...and then when they are older I can explain their original meaning to me. Hope this helps some!!! I have run into stigmas, even from distant family members who were being absolutely downright mean to me about it, and I've learned you just have to smile, be sweet, and remember they are the ones who are being ignorant...

The first time my Mom saw my husband's tattoos she was... well.. not impressed. I was like "Mom, he loves tattoos... he's not into drugs, abusing women/children, he is a good man with a huge heart. He just loves tattoos. Get over it." Haha!!!

I have had to deal with this also. It's pretty funny how people treat you when you look 'different' than their ideal.

Yeah, I have tattoos and wear affliction and tapout, most all of which is black. I wear my hat around backwards, and I have a lot of other counterculture clothing. Yes, I *might* look like I belong on the other side of the tracks, but I guarantee that very few people would treat your daughters and loved ones better than I would. No, I don't make a habit of cursing, and no I have never beaten or emotionally abused a child or a woman (or another guy for that matter). I love Jesus more than anything else. Also, just so you know, a number of years ago I had 3 earrings, and I was neither gay nor bisexual. (Not that it's *your* concern if I was, that's between me and the Big Man.)

I don't do drugs, and I very very rarely drink. I am loyal to a fault, and put others before myself.

I just happen to *look* different.

And you know what? I'm not the only one like this.

Why don't I change you ask? Well....why should I? It's not my responsiblilty to validate someone's puritan ideals. I am me. I like me, and there are a lot of awesome people who like me. I can't tell you the number of times my appearance was used as a bridge to those who would be ignored or even feared by others.

I know most of you aren't like this...but I felt compelled to mention it.

    Just my two cents.

I have one so far. It is of a lizard crawling up my leg.

I grew up in Barbados and that has shaped a large part of who I am.

In Barbados little green lizards are everywhere......so I have one with me all the time to remind me of my Roots.

Hoping to get another one with 3 lizards biting each other tails around my ankle with one of my kids names on each one.

I have my nose pierced (had it since I was 17), Have my ears pieced 6 times on one side and 2 on the other. Use to have eyebrow and bellybutton done back in the old days.

^^ You said it right...you learn who really loves you for you too when you allow yourself to be yourself to the fullest...who wants fair-weather friends?! Not to mention the bridge thing...I have actually seen it make people who notice them feel more comfortable around me b/c they realize I'm pretty chill...

I am actually not into piercing... my ears have three holes each - that's about as good as it gets with me!!! HAHA!!

Tattoos are another story... love them!!! Haha!!!

Too funny! I am just the opposite! I just got a nose ring about 2 months ago and LOVE it! (I don't want anymore though) I like it when it's tasteful...you know? Same with Tatoos...as long as they are tasteful & descrete. Just my personal preference  I figure...A nose ring I can ALWAYS take out...a tatoo is a Life long commitment! Good Luck!

Also the Bible says in 1 Samuel 16:7 "But the Lord said to Samuel, Look not on his appearance or at the height of his stature, for I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart."
I went backa nd for for about a year about getting my nose ring. It didn't change who I was at all! So who cares what they think!

If I ever got a tattoo (highly doubtful- big chicken) the only thing I know I would never regret would be something that represents my faith. I have seen some awesome religious portraits done. I always thought a tattoo of the stigmata on the ribs would be kind of neat.

I know what you mean, as many of you know, I have several fairly large, visible tattoos, both forearms, shoulder, the tops of both feet, the back of my right forearm, and multiple piercings... I couldn't tell you the number of times people have assumed they know what "kind" of person I am as a result. I've been fired from a job, have had my parents' friends clutch their purses when I walk up to them and then refuse to shake my hand, I've been grabbed at by guys that assumed that I was easy... the list goes on. My point is, I guess, that I couldn't be any less like the stereotypes that people throw at me- I'm not hostile, or stupid, or loose or any of those things- the colors of my skin do not define me- I just wish people would stop letting antiquated, predisposed notions keep them from knowing me.

    I garden, for pete's sake.

I have two and am getting more. My first is on my stomach-small-it is a 7 and it has flowers. It was for my son. His name is Sven and he was not breathing when he was born. He was born at 7 am after 7 hours of labor. We called out lucky seven. I have a sun on my back=for he is my son and the sunshine of my life. I am having that one done over. It will be a geisha with cherry blossom tree and my kids names in jap, and then it will represent both kids.
make sure you get something you will love forever. Something that was made for you, not picked out on a wall.
I love tatts and I think they are each an amazing story. My husband has 3, he did his last one about 6 months ago-
bride and groom skulls with the saying-until death do us part.
I told him he is stuck with me forever now. He has a bird and butterfly for out daughter and is getting a 1/2 sleve of a viking for out son.
    Good luck to you

Yikes I turn my head and you all start a new conversation on me that takes me 30 min to read

    I have 4

One above my heart... it's a heart with a purple rose in it

One on my right calf of a hummingbird and fushia flowers

One on the back of my neck which is one I designed of 2 tribal dragons

One on my wedding ring finger. It's a design that I had designed from our wedding rings for my husband at the time because he couldn't wear his ring and wanted to show that he was married.... ~:grumble: like that mattered~ so don't know what I am going to do with that once I decide to start dating again. At least I can hide it with a big ring if I wanna. Or I was thinking of just extending the design to look like a henna tattoo kinda thingy on that finger.

I want to get more but I haven't designed them yet... going to expand the one on the back of my neck to go across my back more and a few others. But I want to make a smaller canvas first

Tattoos behind the ears hurt a little bit more then planned on.
I also discovered my right side is more sensitive then my left.

I have two. My first one is a tribal rose on my upper back, right below my neck. And my second is a big moon on my foot.

Both of them are extremely meaningful to me, and I will be proud to explain what they mean when my son asks me.

I also intend on getting a BUNCH more, but hey, tattoos are expensive. I have a sleeve drawn out, and a full back piece incorporating my rose (which will be the top piece of an old-fashioned frame, going down to my upper hips, which will have a tree of life inside of it. I'm SO excited about that), we're just waiting for the right artist.

    I have 2 tat's and I LOVE THEM!
My twin brother is an artist. He was actually rated one of the top 50 up and coming young artist in the the U.S.
He designed two of my tats.
I have a big one on my lower back, one on my ankle ( I actually have a pic of it on my page), and a small, small lady bug behind my ankle.
I want another one, but I'm not sure where to put it. So I probably won't get another one, but you never know hahahahha
My husband has 7 tats and a few piercing....I LOVE EM'
