  • This is something that you have to keep at to finally get the moves the more you do it the better it is!

I love Zumba and while I do other activities too and can not say this alone has lead to weight loss- it definitely has not hurt. I do it a couple times a week when I can.

Did my first Zumba class today as part of my kick start first week and I can't see how anyone wouldn't lose weight doing it! Such a great workout, so much more fun than slogging away on the treadmill by yourself. Definitely go to the classes, such a feeling of camaraderie and fun, the 45 minutes absolutely flew by! I'm going again. Was nice to have a male instructor too :)

i used to do zumba last year and lost over 40 lbs in a 3 month period...i took a class at my local gym 4 times a week and it sure gives u a workout. Its fun if you have the right instructor...i recommend taking the class vs doing the dvd because at least you get a variety in music selection. Best of luck to u!

Wow...two pages of replies to this question and only one negative. I think you've got your answer! LOL :o)

I'm trying to track down a few Zumba friends so I'm glad I came upon this post! I just, JUST started it at home with the CD's and did the first one today (the 20 min. Express) after several days watching them over and over while I did my workout on the treadmill to get an idea of what to expect. I loved it other than the fact that I felt like I had two left feet but I know I'll pick it up over time. And yes, I worked up as much of a sweat as I do jogging/running 60 min on the treadmill and it's much more fun.

If anyone wants to be my friend, send me a request! :o)

I loved loved loved taking zumba when I could at the gym before I moved. I loved dancing with my friends when we were in high school to have fun and I love going dancing still. You burn a ton of calories and tone parts you didn't know you could! As for the dvds, haven't tried them personally. I've tried to do the cardio ballroom dvd that Julianne from DWTS did, but doing it on my run makes me feel clumsy and awkward. Hardwood floors definitely make it much easier to do because your shoes move easier!

Zumba is a killer workout! I've only done it a few times but each time, I'm drenched and out of breath before the warm up even finished. However, I don't think you should stick to just one exercise. I think you'll have better results and less risk of injury if you change it up and do a variety of exercises. My week normally consists of a couple of times horseback riding, a zumba (or other cardio) class, a body pump class and a run/walk.
  • Since I cannot go to the gym, I just purchased the Zumba to do at home...I am not much of a dancer, but since I am doing it in my own home with no one around I can focus better. I am really looking forward to this, I have heard so much good things about it and have a few friends at work who love it.
  • I mix Zumba into my regular gym workouts twice a week. I like it because it's way different than the rest of the work. The key is to keep moving and work hard enough to sweat. If you are sweating, you will be losing. I try to build in a well rounded weekly workout full of weights, cardio, and plyometrics.

I started doing Zumba along with P90x videos but before I added the P90x videos I lost 6 pounds in one week with zumba and eating healthy! :)

Zumba is the BEST! I have the DVDs and the Wii game, but I can't seem to really get into either one. If you can get to a class - do it! There's something about the energy and camaraderie that you get in a class environment. The instructor *makes* the class too, so if you can go try different ones, you should do that too. You can search for zumba classes near you by going to http://www.zumba.com/en-US/parties/search/

I am new to FitnessPal but have been doing Zumba for 9 months now and I can honestly say that this is the first (of many) exercise gigs I've tried and the ONLY one I've stuck with and still LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! Since I only just started counting calories and being aware of the intake I have personally not seen any weight specific changes (overall wellbeing yes!!) however I do know of two great stories from gals in my class. One added Zumba to weight watchers and went down 6 dress sizes in a year!! She looks INCREDIBLE now. Another older lady started the same time I did (9 mths ago) along with calorie counting and has lost 50lbs.

The key to Zumba success is having the right instructor. Once you find her/him you won't even know you are working out. :) Have fun!

I've lost 19 pounds doing MFP and Zumba only. Walking bores me. I use Zumba 2 on the Wii.
  • I started out doing Zumba because I was so overweight I couldnt do much else. In the last four months I have gone to strength training only and love it, but I lost about 30 lbs in four months eating healthy and doing zumba!

I LOVE zumba! Its fun and an awesome workout. There is a great instructor here and got the zumba for wii. It is kinda hard to follow along at first but you can catch on and seriously, no one cares if you miss a step or two - just go and have fun with it.

Does it work? Check out the next Zumba instuctor you see. Mine said she started Zumba because she found running on the treadmill too boring.

I've lost 100 pounds and I attribute most of that to Zumba! I love it! I have the two games for the xbox kinect. Hoping to lose enough to where I feel comfortable enough to take a live class. :)

I have been doing Zumba for years in combination with other activities and it definatly did help me lose weight. I do have a few recommendations though: get the right shoes! Do not do zumba in running shoes. They are "sticky" on the bottom and this can cause knee injuries when doing zumba moves. Look for Dance sneakers or cross trainers with low tread.

I think it only works if you are doing it like this

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPv8ZGrb78Y

the class I went to once or twice was just nearly not up tempo enough.

    I have :-)
I have only been doing Zumba for a few weeks but it really works (if you put the effort in). Im a regular gym-goes anyway so I dont actually find it that hard as a workout, but it's so much fun you dont notice how hard your working. It's really addictiver too as I started going once a week and now go 3 times a week. It will work muscles you didnt know you had, the hour goes sooo quickly and burns a lot of calories. I would difinately recommend it :-)

    This!!

The time goes so fast and you have such a good time doing it! I love it!

I did zumba for several months and didn't lose anything. when I combined it with MFP, and toning exercises, that's when the weight came off.

For me, it has to be exercise and calorie restriction. No other way.

I have been doing zumba for the last couple of months now, I want to lose some flab for summer. I feel so good after the workout that I'm starting to get addicted to it but I do it at home as there are no Classes nearby. I remember reading a good review on fatcuda.com before purchasing and it helped me a lot because I didn't even know what zumba was or if it was for me.

my sister has and i just started to, i believe if you actually do it and stick to it you will lose the weight. plus it is so much fun. I think that you really have to move and try in order for it to work though. like some people in the classes dont actually moved, idk why maybe shy but idk anywho it is great work out
