  • Ugh! :frown: I changed 1/2 of the water in my 23 gallon acquarium last night. Carrying water a gallon at at time to the sink, cleaning up everything in the tank and refilling a gallon at a time. This morning my arm on the side with my port is sore...but the acquarium looks good! :drinker: Now I need to buy more fish, I only have 5 tiny ones. I think I will go with mollies, swordtails, with a couple of catfish to clean up the bottom.

I’ve had to work hard at getting my blood sugar under control. I used insulin sometimes during and for a while after chemo. No chemo since November first and now I have things under control again with my A1C coming down. What a nuisance!!! My next cancer check is March 14. I am expecting and praying for good results.

Yesterday I did the ultimate no-no (with no adverse blood sugar effects, however). Instead of a nice salad when I went out to eat, I chose a burger and onion rings. :embarassed: I can’t begin to tell you how good that was and how I enjoyed it.

My granddaughter (in the army in Georgia) is flying to Texas to get married at the base there where her fiancé is stationed. I wish her well, would love to see her on her wedding day. But we don’t always get what we want, do we!! She is a precious girl….I haven’t met her finance but I’m sure she made a good choice.

Please have a wonderful day. God Bless. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

A few days ago, I felt like quitting just like Viki. But the replies that you made to her made me see how really caring you all are. You have a lot of warmth, spirit and courage. I don't want to miss any of that! Thank you for all of the encouragement that you've all given me so far and I need a little more now. My baby brother has sarcoidosis and emphysema in his lungs, just completed a year of radiation treatment for prostate cancer and has now been diagnosed with shingles. It makes me very sad for him.

Happy Sunday!!! Going to my step sons for the big game although it doesn't come on until 5:30 pm our time which means we will be there longer and later than usual. I would prefer to stay home and watch the game but as Irene said we can't always have what we want. :noway:

Irene, you be careful with that port and don't be over doing just cause you feel good. :blushing:

JoAn, happy birthday to your daughter she is in good company with my belated father in law who was a wonderful man. We had some snow this morning, enough for the guys to come and plow again. This is a very expensive winter so far. :ohwell:

Elli, click on quote first, then delete the parts you don't want in the quote making sure you don't delete the quotes themselves. After the last quote, go down a little bit and say what you want to say. Understand? I will try it with your post when I am done with this and hope I have given you the right information. I am right there with you with hanging on to five pounds, it is very discouraging and I even am starting to think something is wrong with my scale. I have people tell me to stop worrying about my weight, that I look fine, but it is my own personal goal that I am trying to achieve. I know the older we get the harder it is, but someday I will shed these few pounds.

Marie, Dallas has to be in an uproar today!!! Watching the movie stars on the pre-game show, which is kinda of cool, I am kind of a star struck person and when I was younger used to hound them for autographs. I have some good ones, including Frank Sinatra and Liberace.

Gayla, you are one of the most wonderful human beings I have talked to, what you do with children and with your son Neil speaks for itself. In defense of Viki, I do not think she was talking about our thread when she was talking about some creepy guy, she was involved with more than us seniors. :ohwell: The house getting torn apart sounds like a mess to me, but the end product will be worth all of it. I hope soon you will be able to get away with your hubby for some alone time.  Congratulations on the 4 pounds!! That is a huge weight loss and we are so proud of you!!

Again, that is all that my mind will let me remember so if I missed you I am sorry but you are always in my heart.

They gave me medication and it soon ease. Boy what pain..But look like your brother got worst problem than that. I willl continue to pray for him. And Matttie you take care of yourself. Love ya! Elli,

By pulling your prior post up in a quote window, I could see where you went wrong. The coding to START a quote inside the brackets --lowercase and to the right of the "p" key. To END the quote, what is added is a "/" between the first bracket and the "q."

If you go to the post you did where everything came up highlighted blue, and pull it into a quote window, you will see that your ending quote code appears BELOW what you added to the message-instead of above it. That is why the entire message displayed all "blue." Hope that helps, and BTW, you are NOT a "dork"--rather a "technologically-challenged classic." LOL....and as we all know, I am a smart@ss:wink::laugh:

Happy Super Bowl. I got bored with the pre-game show, so I have put the tv out of its misery for a while and plan to get something else done until a little later.

Happy Superbowl Day. Our local Tv station are all round up. Tailgating is going strong. Cooking them Hambugers and what have you.

I can tell you what the Packer fans are cooking - Brats that have been first soaked in beer and served two at a time on semmels, wonderful crusty treats also called hard rolls. There isn't a bake shop in Wisconsin that doesn't have their own recipe passed down from a Bavarian ancestor. And while Johnsonville Brats are most famous, every meat market and butcher shop also makes their own. It is quite a competitive field.

The Johnsonville "Big Taste Grill" is in the parking lot somewhere. See http://www.bigtastegrill.com/

By the way, I've finally dropped out of the 170s, just barely. Had to get on the scale three times this morning to be sure but there it was - 169!!
  • Matty…my niece has had an ongoing battle with sarcoidosis. I tried to research it on the internet, but still don't understand it very well. She belongs to support groups and works toward getting more research done on it. My Dad had emphysema. Both are very bad things to deal with and in your brother’s case, by one person, plus his other health issues. You have my prayers for your brother. I have four brothers, but there is always a special place for the “baby.” God Bless!

CONNIE, I'm so jealous! I cannot get below my 174 for weeks now! Of course, I cannot exercise or strain in any way til my Dr says OK, but CONGRATS, and keep up the great work! :flowerforyou:

And now, will someone please walk me through grabbing the quotes in blue? As you can see, I just copy/pasted, which ain't the same!

Instead of hitting the "reply" button, just hit the "quote" button. The post you're responding to will appear but there will be brackets with the word quote at the beginning and the end.

Type your response below the ending quote - /quote. If you type it before, it will also be in the blue box. You can delete any part of the post you're responding to as I did above (removed the reply directed to me specifically). Then just post your reply.

    Connie,

As long as you don't eat too many of those brats, the scale won't upset you next week!!! LOL I am creating my own version of heaven on a bun with some Al Fresco all natural sweet Italian chicken sausages, some Jalapeño cheese bread, and diced tomatoes with green and red peppers and some mushrooms, and some avocado slices.

A bottle of micro-brewed beer is also on the horizon, and some other veggies, and some organic sweet potato chips, and we will call it dinner. Blueberries are on tap for dessert.

In view of the way the first half has gone, that rumbling and shaking you hear is all the Cheeseheads jumping up and down for joy, since the score is now 21 - 3 Packers, with a little over a minute left 'til halftime. Go Packers!!

Time to stop typing and start eating...

Maddie, you were close. You typed your reply before the ending container [ /quote ] (without the spaces) so it showed up INSIDE the blue box. Unless that's what you wanted, be sure you type AFTER the ending container.

And, you can also put the name of the person you are replying to. I'm going to reply to Barb (weaklink109) next and I'll show you what I mean.

Well, Barb, they managed to score a touchdown before heading to the locker room but we'll take a 21-10 lead at half time.

To which I say, but Marie you can put the persons name in when you respond, just like I did. The reason you got a lot of quotes is that you didn't clean up the original message which already included a quote.

Mary had a little lamb whose coat was white as snow
To which I say, Mary and her lamb couldn't have lived in Missouri
And every where that Mary went, her lamb was sure to go
Bet Mary didn't eat out much.
It followed her to school one day which was against the rule
Wonder how it got on the school bus
It made the children laugh and play to see a lamb at school
I thought school was for learning, not laughing and playing.

The above is a demonstration of using free form quote boxes. I used the [ quote ] [ /quote ] containers in front of and behind each line I wanted to appear in a blue box and then typed my comment right after.

Thing of the quote containers as clumsy parenthesis.

oh Maddie - so sorry about your brother. On top of everything else to get SHINGLES. I've heard they are so so painful. I'm not a huge vaccine person but that's one i'll get when i turn 60. Hang in there. I know it's easy when the going gets rough to resort to food for comfort - that's always been my way anyway. It's instant gratification but in the long run i always feel better if i manage to NOT gain weight during a crises or difficult time. Hang in there.

Thanks Sandy - I'll try the quote thing again. I'm just a computer dork!:embarassed: I tell ya, it's a wonder i can run businesses! I have people telling me the same thing - you look fine you don't need to lose anymore weight - but i know how my clothes fit and how i WANT them to fit! I'm sure some of it is just weight distribution, or something.........i can't imagine 3 pounds are going to make a HUGE difference, but i sure do want to get there!!!!!!!

I took my kids some food and got to hang out with little Kodi Grace for a few hours. omg - she's so precious!:heart:  Tomorrow if the roads aren't bad my dil will come to visit for the day. Hope the roads are ok!

Connie - thank you too for explaing the quote thing - you sure have it down!

I'm liking the commercials on the Super Bowl. I'm not much of a football person. I don't want to watch Glee though! Sandy - was it you who were saying you started watching it? I really like it! I don't manage to watch tv that much but i rent the seasons when they come out on dvd. Very entertaining!

Let's all have a great week! See ya.

Connie, is THIS the way to do it? I'm not certain where I click the bracket and forward slash, but if you are patient, I will practice!

I really wanted to QUOTE your Thoreau, as it's one of my favorites! (my second husband's ashes are buried beside Walden Pond!)

I’m not emotionally involved in the Super Bowl because the two teams have not sentimental value at all for me, but I’m cheering for the Packers.

:flowerforyou: Elli, I am enjoying hearing about all your experiences with your new grandchildren…..I remember how eager you were for the babies to be born so I’m so glad that they are doing well and bringing you so much joy….I will never be like Jeffrey, but thank you for the compliment……all my workouts are low impact, low intensity…..slow and steady wins the race….I’m sure your kids love the homemade food……I stopped listening to the people who told me that I didn’t need to lose any more weight and kept focused on my own goal…..you can do it…..congratulations on figuring out how to quote somebody else.

:flowerforyou: Marie, I know how frustrated you and Jerry must be waiting for the test results……I am continuing to think happy thoughts for good results:bigsmile:

:flowerforyou: Sandy, thank you for your kind and encouraging words…..I read today that 98% of people who lose weight, gain some or all of it back again…..I don’t ever want to think that my success so far has made me immune to the possibility of getting distracted and abandoning my good habits…I have to rededicate myself every day or it’s possible to go back to old behaviors……I’m sorry that you can’t stay home and watch the Super Bowl……that’s what we do and we love it……we even turned down an invitation to a Super Bowl party today….when we stay home we can control what we eat so we don’t end up with a ton of salty unhealthy stuff

:flowerforyou: Viki, I am sorry that I was somewhat preoccupied and absent when you started posting…..I would have loved to add you as a friend, congratulate you on your weight loss success, and get to know you better

:flowerforyou: JoAn, when you are recovering from major surgery, taking it easy is part of the process……you weren’t being lazy at all…..and your rest seems to have done you good….happy birthday to your daughter

:flowerforyou: Connie, thank you for the heartwarming story about your DIL and the Packers…….now I really have a reason to cheer for them….congratulations on your weight loss

:flowerforyou: Marilyn, I admire how you can work so many hours and still find time to work out.

:flowerforyou: Irene, congratulations to your granddaughter on her upcoming wedding

:flowerforyou: Maddie, how sad you must be for your brother and all his illness. Is he far away? Can you go spend time with him? Please know that we all care even from far away and through cyberspace….remember, never, never, never give up…….my mother had shingles and it was very painful……the day my doctor told me about the shingles vaccine, Jake and I went and got it even though it was expensive.

:flowerforyou: Gayla, congratulations on your weight loss.

:flowerforyou: Xyla, welcome to the group……I’d love to find out more about you….I see that you’ve made a great start on your weight loss journey.

:drinker: we continue to be busy packing and cleaning along with all the other daily chores.....i found time to get the dogs to the dog park.....we're trying to stay in the moment and not get ahead of ourselves......not an easy thing to do

Thank you everyone for rooting for my Packers. The Packers are the only non-profit, community-owned franchise in American professional sports major leagues. Not many people know that. And should the team ever be sold (and it won't), the proceeds would go to the Green Bay Packers Foundation, which makes donations to many charities and institutions throughout Wisconsin. It is truly a team of the people.
  • Well, they dunnit didnt they! Hope you all enjoyed it.
Maddie, you can backslide if you choose to, but dont leave us, you are a great poster, and we need you here.
i ate chkn wings during the game, breaded ones. Oooppps, not on my plan, but it wont knock me off the path.
Delraybuzz, I love your name, buzz! And your very happy photo. Hope all of you got your quotes lesson down, there will be a test, jk lol!

Wow, what a lot of posts today. I read them and enjoyed them all. Proud of you all for mastering a new skill! The deconstruction continues!! Dave says I don't look very good but it is just my usual sinus allergies associated with dust and there is some of that as they tear out boards. I think I looked better as they day progressed. We watched the SuperBowl, glad the Packers took it home for your dil, Connie. To be honest, I enjoyed the commercials more than the game but I was playing games on the IPad at the same time. I love so many sports but have never taken much of an interest in football.

Thanks for your kind remarks, my friends! I really wasn't looking for them but liked them anyway.

Maddie -- So sad for your brother. Sometimes it seems like one person gets overloaded with crisis and it does not seem fair. I have had shingles, fortunately it was caught very early and the medication I took worked very well. I understand the earlier in the illness, the better the response. It still had me off work for 2 weeks and was very uncomfortable. I will include your brother (and you) in my prayers tonight. I also hope that we can meet your needs a little better. I love your posts and look forward to them everyday. You are important to us. Please feel free to share as much as you like. This group has been a tremendous support to me as my son, Neil, has gone through surgery after surgery. I don't think they will ever know how much they boosted both his and my spirits when the going got tough.

Buzz -- I am hoping that no mention of your eyes means they are serving you well!

Phoebe and Sandy -- Thanks for your kindness. If Dave stays cranky I may head South without him!! Tomorrow I have to start looking for new fixtures and new entryway lights. I don't like the ones we bought 20 years ago when we built the house. The problem I am facing is that we have gold trim on most of our lights and gold is completely out now!! I have not been able to find any with gold for the entryway. Now I have decided to look for a stained glass effect which will tie in with the dining room. We have quite an open plan so there is no way I can change one area without changing the other which is way more than I want to do!! Too much information, sorry!

Marie -- I hope you and Jerry get good news tomorrow. I will be thinking about you.

Elli -- Your baby stories make me smile. I think I have given up on my kids having babies. Sniff, sniff!!

One of the babies that I have been working with died this past week. I am so sad for the life she never got to experience and sad for her parents who loved her so much.

To everyone else, loved your posts, thinking about you but for now it is time to sign off. Take care and keep smiling. Gayla
