Barb~try the cooking light recipe books. I have one and I LOVE, love, love it. Did I say I love it???
For those that are not on my friends list on MFP. I have to share what I just posted on MFP.....Oh yeah size 8, oh how I have missed you....I have not seen you in over 7 years. I am so glad that you have decided that we can play once again. :happy:0 -
Welcome back to the land of size 8's KatieM!
Barb-I use Pandora on my phone I started with Black Eyed Pees and it chooses songs similar to that in style it keeps up a good beat the entire way through and I don't have to pay for the songs..just hear annoying Hallmark Valentine's commercials every 5th song or so..0 -
Barb-- sorry to hear you are having a hard time with inlaws. my inlaws give me a hard time. my one sister in-law doesn't acknowledge my girls as her nieces or me at all. and felt it was necessary to tell me how to do stuff when she wasn't able to take care of her own family. I have learned to take everything they say with a grain of salt.
Started no more trouble zones dvd today. it wasn't as bad as i had thought it would be.
Hope everyone is having a good week so far0 -

Fabulous! That's awesome.
I'm a bit stressed out at the moment. I'm in a moms' group here and things have been kind of out of whack for a while -- we've had to cancel meetings due to weather, and there have been miscommunications among the leadership and I feel like I might have just gotten caught in the middle of something icky. I hate being in that position! I don't handle conflict well, and I certainly hate when I get stuck in the middle. So, I'm stressing. This is the first drama I've encountered since we moved here, and I guess I was getting comfortable in thinking everything was going to go smoothly, which admittedly is stupid because something always happens. You can't expect everyone to get along all the time. But I wish they would. It's not a major drama, I don't think, but it's enough to make me feel uncomfortable.
I don't know, I guess I just needed to get that out there. On a brighter note, I am SO looking forward to dinner. Black beans with bacon and onion, tenderized round steak seasoned and baked, and corn. I have done really well on all my important numbers today: calories, sodium, and protein. I hope tomorrow goes as well on the food front.0 -
aj-- sorry to hear about the problems with your moms group. drama can be no good. i recently left a moms group that i had been going to focus more on me and my family and finances. hope it will work out for you.0

Congrats! That is wonderful!0 -
Thank you!
Aj~Drama=no good! I hope that it can all be worked out with the least amount of drama as possible. My family (mostly my mom) causes a lot of drama and because of this I live as far as I can without being too far that I can't come around when I want. So they don't bring me into the drama that often which works good for me but when my mom decides to bring me into the drama it = no good! :grumble:0 -

Emily, My own sister never calls and asks about her niece or nephew...and when and if she does call, she's worried about everything else but my kids and her mom (they have spoke much to each other 2 years this past Christmas! and sad thing is our mom just had heart surgery and not once did she go to the hospital (for either time, long story if you don't know the full story) and not once did she call to check in with her or ask me how she was doing!)
About the only good thing about my inlaws, is my mil at least buys both kids clothes or baby food and diapers for the little on, otherwise, they are pretty much pains in the @$$e$.....0 -
So I made is to a 10 lb. loss!!
We have had issues with our families the last year or two. We feel like grandparents should (at least sometimes) ask to see their grandchildren instead of us always asking them to "watch" them. We don't think that grandparents should be babysitters but our parents NEVER ask to see them. Both the IL's and my parents will stop by and visit (which is great) but they are mainly visiting with my hubby and I and don't play with/talk to the kids. My mom esp. is usually just bringing them gifts. We are conducting an experiment in 2011 to see how many/if any either of our parents ask to do something with the kids of have the kids over with us never asking them to keep or watch the kids. So far in 2011...none. Sadly.
What is it with family?0 -
Congrats on the 10 lbs. gone, that's great!
As for the family issues..I think the reality is our parents were the beginning of the 'me' generation. They also are stuck in the mindset of needing an invitation to someone's house rather than inviting themselves. I would love to have grandparents that take the kids on outings to the movies, or swimming or vacations but that is not with in the realm of reality for them. They simply don't have it in them to do that. My dad has only seen my 3 yr. old twice once at 6 months when we drove out to see him and last fall he drove to see us and meet my 2 yr. for the first time. My parents have been divorced forever, so my Dad lives 10 hrs. away. That being said he has only made the trip to see me 6 times in the past 31 yrs. of my life. I have always had to drive to see him. It makes it easier to let go of your expectations of what they should be and instead focus on what they can be. We currently live with no family around for 7 1/2 hour drive. To have grandparents ready and willing to babysit on occasion would be nice. I understand it stinks, really I do.
Today is my fitness orientation at my new gym, so I get to see how all the weight machines work..time to start lifting again!0 -
Morning Ladies! Just a quick read through the post...
KatieM! Congrats on the new size!!! Way to go!
BlueRose.. I kinda like Christina Aguilera's "Keeps Getting Better"
On a Sad note...I feel so bad that there is so much bad blood going on out there with families...so much stress. You shouldn't have to stress about relationships with your core family. I'm sorry that some of you are going through this. I hope that the "culprits" will wake up and realize they need to be part of you and your families. Whats the point of being here without sharing it with loved ones?
On a Happy note. I hoped on the scale this morning (just cause, I don't check in except Mondays...) It's official. I'm in the 140's!!! 149.8 to be exact, but ITS THE 140's! I can hardly stand it!!! So excited.0 -
Good morning! I have missed you all! And I'm noticing lots of new faces too! I've been gone for about 2 months. I did really well on maintaining through the holidays until Christmas day. Since then, I've ballooned up from 157 to 162.3. Doesn't sound like much, but when you're 5' 1" and have small bone structure, it makes a HUGE difference! I'm also at the heaviest I've been since delivering my daughter 7 years ago today. So I realized that I really needed to come back to MFP and my SAHM sisters!
A bit about me to introduce myself to the newer people. I have 2 kids, a son who's 8 and a daughter who turned 7 today (16 months apart). I was a SAHM until about 3 years ago when I went back to work 10 hrs a week for 2 days each week. I'm now up to 20 hrs a week 9-1 Monday through Friday. I still consider myself a SAHM because I'm at home when the kids leave for school and I'm done with work before time to pick them back up in the early afternoon. I'm an Administrative Assistant at my church and am blessed to have a job where I can bring the kids with me on days they don't have school. They sit in the nursery and play, watch tv, eat snacks, draw pictures, and read. Basically, things they would do at home, but they need to be quieter.
I've been "trying" to lose weight now for about 2 years. I put quotes around trying because I've come on here saying "I'm determined this time!", but my will-power sucks. I started running about 9 months ago, but my attempts have been hit and miss. I am still planning to run/walk my first 5K the last Saturday in March.
I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you. Have a great Wednesday! :flowerforyou:0 -
DJ - So awesome, congrats on the 140s!!!
Holly - Have fun at your fitness orientation, it's great that you are waiting to learn the proper form on all machines, too many people don't do that.
Binabodu - WAHOO, great job on getting over the 10lb. mark!!!
Barb - I love food network recipes, Giada's have lots of flavor and usually few ingredients. I make her marinara sauce and love it. Her things are easy to tweak also. Same with Rachel Ray although her stuff I think is a bit more fattening.
AJ - I use to be an organizer of a mom's group when I lived in OK and let me tell ya, DRAMA MAMAS. LOL, overall it's a great concept and I made some wonderful friends but, when you get a group of women together there is almost always drama. If you have good organizers it should blow over soon and all will be good.
Emilillymom - Do you like Trouble Zones DVD? Have you tried 30 Day Shred? I'm wondering how they compare.
Katie M - So awesome that you are outta double digits, CONGRATS!!!
Katie - I'm so jealous you are doing a 1/2 marathon, I'd love to train for one sometime. I always kick myself for not doing one in college when I ran all the time. Thanks for the podcast info, I'll check it out. Plan on starting March 1st, hope I can lose a few more poinds before then.
Woke up feeling icky today. Since we had the flu a couple of weeks ago I'm praying we aren't getting hit with another bug. I'm hoping it's just sinus stuff or a little 24 hour bug. Hope I have more energy later so I can workout a bit.

Woo hoo!!!! Time to celebrate!! I officially hit the 50 lb mark this morning!!
You know what's really sad these days??? I have friends, even friends I have only known for a year or even 2 years.....and they seem to know more than my own family, WTH? What's up with that? I understand we all have to work, take care of our own families, but what about the family you came from, isn't that important anymore?
Well, I'm off to eat some lunch and start packing the things up we aren't using or need right away. Take care everyone!0 -
Do you like Trouble Zones DVD? Have you tried 30 Day Shred? I'm wondering how they compare
30 day shred was a lot more cardio. but level was easy but i tried level two and it was a lot harder.
Trouble Zones DVD is a lot of arm work, stomach work and legs which are all the areas i need to tone. i felt trouble zones was easier for me.0 -
binabodu~YAY! Great job on the 10 lbs lost.
Holly~Good luck on the GYM orientation. Have fun!
DJJW~Thank you! Great job on the 140's that is where I am trying to get right now. Currently I am at 152. To be in the "healthy" zone for my height I need to get to 141, 11 lbs to get there.
Amypyr~Welcome back! My willpower was stinky as well until I took pics of myself in a bikini and then I was like "WHAT??!!" I recommend that to anyone that is wavering on their willpower. Then look at it often so you don't "forget" what you are doing and why.
Amy~Thank you! Hope you feel better soon.
Barb~ Way to go on the 50#.
Stacey~Just wanted to tell you...until my body gets used to the cleaning I am not going to do an official workout. When I was doing both the workout and the cleaning I would be so worn out that I couldn't function. How have you been doing on the exercise front?
My day today is filled with laundry, laundry and more laundry. Oh I also wanted to share that I was able to get my cleaning done at the school in under the 2 hours that is allowed. My first time being able to do it under that amount. I have a couple times done it in the 2 hours but never less than. This I am hoping impressed the "boss" well enough to land me the job and not just be a sub (that is what I am right now a trial period to see if I will work out for them there is another lady that is my competition). Thr hubby and I are focused on getting debt paid off as fast as we can that is why I am working the 2 hours a day. It will help push my hubby to get his sales up so that he can get it to where I am no longer working outside of the home.0 -
Congrats to those of you with the losses! Awesome work.
Amypyr, welcome!
All this talk about families makes me glad we don't live near ours. Seriously. Because we have enough drama from halfway across the country. I love my family and I love my husband's family, but I think we would have drama if we lived closer. We already have some, but it's easier to ignore when they're not right there every day, you know? I miss them, but I think it's better this way.
Our morning was all screwed up and I haven't gotten a thing done around the house yet. So why am I sitting at the computer, you ask? Because I have to leave again in 10 minutes to get C from school and I really hate to do half of a job and then have to quit. So when we get back, then I guess I'll get started, and force my workout in during Z's nap, and hope that I can get all the dishes washed at some point before dinner. Blargh.0 -
Woo hoo!!!! Time to celebrate!! I officially hit the 50 lb mark this morning!!
Wow!!!! Congrats! What an inspiration to everyone:flowerforyou:0 -
Thanks for the support!
Congrats on 50 lbs. Barb!!
Same here with laundry although my usual laundry days are M & F the snow days piling up here keep me behind. Blah. Getting ready to do the 30 Day Shred while my son naps. Have a great day ladies!0 -
Such great loses..way to go ladies!
Warning below is a rant:
My orientation today was..interesting. The first part was questions, how much do you weigh, how many calories do you eat, what your goals are, any medical problems have you worked out before etc. He looked over my food diary to see how I was doing, and I am doing good there he wants me to eat more protein 75-90 g I always go over my protein anyway but he said I need to do more. That was the end of the good news. After that it was time to measure fat..using calipers! I don't think they are highly reliable because they are easy to misinterpret different ways of using it (ie different people) will get different results. That being said I am at a whopping 33.3% healthy is under 30%. I went into this feeling fairly okay this morning. After this revelation he watched me do some exercises to see where my weakness are..well that was fun! Basically I have tight shoulders, chest, hip flexers, hamstrings, and calves. Um DUH! I'm married, with children and trying to pay off debts of course my muscles are tight. I also have weak shoulders, trapezoids, lower abs (c-sections) lower back, and glutes. He had me do a few exercises that used all the muscles together that were a bit challenging but I finished them and did them well. I have been working out the past 4 weeks and really thought I was in better shape than that. Obviously he does have a stake in this, he is a trainer and the ideal situation is that I hire him to train me which is a chunk of money I don't have. After all this I had only 20 min. left to get in some cardio before I had to get the girls from the play room. IF I was able to higher him to train me I could have all the extra weight lost, fat reduced to 25% in 15 weeks or less. Driving home I am conflicted between wanting to hire this guy (with what $ I have no idea and wanting to do it all on my own just to screw him). Clearly my hormones are out of whack. I get home and what do I find..yes you guessed TOM has decided to arrive.
Here's hoping the day turns around from here!0 -
Good morning everyone! Holy cow there is a lot to respond to! If I don't respond to everyone, please forgive me.
Barb - congrats on the 50 pound loss. That is HUGE and you should be so proud. Happy you are getting a car and moving out of a toxic home. As for your question about family and why they aren't what they "should" be, all I know is that mine are far from perfect, but what I can do is stay away from the family and situations that cause me stress and are no good for my family and myself, and do whatever it takes to make MY FAMILY a loving one and to work on myself so that I don't repeat the "bad" patterns that have been passed down from generation to generation. The disfunction stops HERE. That's my thinking. Luckily, I don't think my family or in laws are THAT bad. I know it could be SO much worse.
StaceyW - Congrats on getting your house!
Amy - Sorry your scale didn't budge - but it sounds like you are definitely shrinking!! I'm sure it's because muscle weighs more than fat - and you're gaining muscle!
AJ - I hear you about wanting to strangle children - well that sounds kind of harsh - maybe just wanting to GET AWAY from them for a while. ;-) I am in Oklahoma and we got lots of snow this past week 1/2 (which is NOT normal) and my kids have been out of school for 8 days!! However, it's my 15 month old that is driving me crazy mostly. I need to get out with her. She has so much energy and always is right by my side. Even when daddy gets home. I love her madly, just sometimes I just need me time and I don't get it often.
Binabodu - welcome - I am new here too. I am also doing Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. However, I'm only on like day 5 - and I can't ever see being ready to move past level 1. It's killer! And I hear you about grandparents never offering to watch kids. My mom is the least maternal person on earth - lives about 10 min. away - and only sees her grandchildren if we are getting together or if it's a holiday. SAD. My MIL is 85 and ADORES her grandkids - she would be asking for them often if she were able - but obviously because of her age - she's not able to. Go figure!
Katie M - Size 8 - WHOO HOOO!!
AMYPYR - Nice to meet you.
DJJW - Happy 140's!! I will be SO excited to see those! I don't have long - I'm at 152 - so soon I hope! it's been a long time since I've seen the 140's.
Holly - My dad lives 4 hours away and has never driven to see me or his grandkids. :-( Good luck at your new gym!
Katie - up 2 pounds - probably because you are working out like crazy! I'm sure it will go down soon. I need to be working out - but it's just so hard with my 15 month old. She is underfoot ALL THE TIME - and her nap is almost non existent.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
Okay, well this has taken me like 2 hours to type. My toddler is such a busy body!! She is into EVERYTHING, so I'm constantly stopping to attend to her. I really really need to get out by myself SOON. I am going crazy!!! And it doesn't help that I'm having some serious PMS - which in my case = major mood swings! :grumble:0 -
Wow! I have missed alot!
I just skimmed the losts, Ihave ot go back and read them!
I hope everyone is having a great day....BBL to write more!0 -

welcome back amy!! and i totally understand. i am back above my starting wt. fundamentally, i have not made the changes to my thinking and eating in a long term/consistent way. so i am starting again too.
in any case, you are always welcome. and you CAN do this--one pound at a time!0 -

Congrats on only 2 cookies!!!0 -
I've actually been trying to do two workouts a day. I've been going to the gym in the morning, and then doing a short little cardio burst mid afternoon...kinda a replacement for coffee...it's been working well so far!
Now, for my NSV! I also bought and fit into a size 8 pair of pants today! I went out looking for a skirt, but couldn't find one, so I found these super cute dress pants. I tried on a size 10, and they were just a little big, not much, but enough that I knew I wouldn't be able to wear them for long if I lost even a few more pounds. So I grabbed the 8s, and LOVE them! They hug me in all the right placesHubby and I have a double date night on Friday, Italian food and Jeff Dunham...so excited!
I'll figure out what shirt I am going to wear with them and get a new picture up!0 -
I also tried on a pair of bikini bottoms that didn't make me cringe...now if I could find a cute tank for the top I'd be set0

hehe, I'm up two pounds because of all the processed cheese I ate on Sunday!! LOL! Sorry about the no nap, that's way too soon! I recently told my 4 year old that he needed quiet time, so he'll either sit in there and "read" or he actually takes a nap, so shocking! Since he quit naps around 2. He's my easy going one, my 2 year old is the strong willed one0 -
Kat, can't wait to check out your new pic!! Congrats on the size 8!!0
